Although we're still one shy of the three promised earlier this month, ATMC Cable subscribers in North Carolina can kick back and enjoy two more newcomers. Effective immediately, subscribers of the mini-carrier can find Animal Planet HD and Science Channel HD on slots 931 and 964, respectively, and per usual, neither will cost HD customers anything extra. Curiously, the release fails to mention the still missing PBS HD, but hopefully it too will surface sooner rather than later.

Behold, the power of high-definition. Just days after FSN Wisconsin announced that it would be airing 65 Milwaukee Brewers games in HD this season, Charter has acquiesced and decided that it would finally add the channel to its high-def lineup. Prior to this season, the carrier had held back on adding the HD feed of the network because -- according to Charter regional spokesman John Miller -- "over 95 percent of its programming [wasn't] in HD." Mr. Miller recently noted that Charter felt that there would be "significant interest in the Brewers this season, [along with] more HDTVs in the marketplace," which was apparently good enough to land the channel on the "to be launched this summer" list. Catering specifically to the HD crowd? Now that's what we like to hear.[Image courtesy of RightFieldBleachers]

According to a fresh message delivered to a subscriber shacked up in the outskirts of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the aforementioned carrier will be adding five new high-def channels on April 4th. Included in the bunch are CNN HD (217), AMC HD (238), TLC HD (225), History Channel HD (217) and Animal Planet HD (230). Surely you can hang on just 2.5 more weeks, right?[Thanks, EPaps]

More great news for ATMC Cable subscribers in and around Shallotte, NC -- you've got two new high-definition channels coming your way. As of right this moment, customers can tune into Discovery HD (930) and TLC HD (931), and neither will cost you a dime extra if you're already paying for the Expanded cable package and an HD digital cable box. Best of all, ATMC isn't stopping at 28 high-def channels, as Animal Planet HD, Science HD and PBS HD are all slated to hit the lineup within "the coming weeks." Who says the little guys can't keep up?

As the lineup changes continue to emerge in New York, along comes word that the Discovery suite of high-def channels are set to land in Rochester tomorrow. That's right, nary a month after picking up History Channel HD, HGTV HD and Lifetime Movie Network HD, you folks in the upstate can soon look forward to seeing Discovery Channel HD (1036), TLC HD (1023), Science Channel HD (1024) and Animal Planet HD (1068). No word on whether or not these will be delivered via SDV, but we're guessing so. [Disclosure: Engadget is part of the Time Warner family][Thanks, Mike S.]

As February closed, we got word that Comcast users in unspecified parts of New Jersey would be getting nine new HD channels on March 27th. Now, we're finally getting a touch more information on the whole ordeal. Reportedly, Comcast is gearing up to "reorganize its channel lineups in Atlantic, Cape May and Cumberland counties" in order to compress six channel lineups in southern New Jersey into two and to bring AMC, Cartoon Network, The History Channel and Turner Movie Classics to the all-digital side on April 12th. As for Ocean County, Cartoon Network, The History Channel and Philadelphia broadcasters KYW-3 (CBS) and WPHL-17 will make the leap to digital. For a breakdown of which high-definition channels are being added in which locales, head on past the break.

Cox has been beefing up the HD lineup in Eastern Virginia for some time now, but for whatever reason, residents of Fredericksburg have been casually overlooked -- until now, that is. According to a tipster, the aforementioned area will be gifted with not one, not two, but fourteen new high-definition channels "by mid-April." When all's said and done, the newcomers will bump the total HD options in the area up to 34, and if you're eager to know exactly which networks are on the way, head on the past the jump.[Thanks, Terrance N.]

Not even a week after AT&T announced plans to expand its U-verse service to more homes in Sacramento, along comes Comcast in an attempt to make its offering a bit more attractive. According to a local who reported seeing a new message on the cable box, the aforementioned carrier will be adding Food Network HD, SciFi HD, Discovery HD, TLC HD, USA HD and HGTV HD "on or after March 31st." Three cheers for competition, and three more for expanded lineups.[Thanks, Joe F.]

Just as we expected, Time Warner Cable is delivering five new HD channels to its all-digital Staten Island market, and while midtown NYC gets left out (again), folks braving the chill up in Syracuse have three more reasons to stay indoors. Aside from gaining NY1 on slot 701, Staten Island residents will also see the Discovery suit showing up in their EPG, which includes Science Channel HD (775), TLC HD (752), Discovery HD (766) and Animal Planet HD (786). As for Syracuse, locals in the region can now tune into History Channel HD (818), TBS HD (822) and CNN HD (824). As for surrounding areas, we haven't heard anything official concerning the possibility of these networks spreading, but as always, keep a sharp eye on that channel lineup and drop us a line if any newcomers pop up. First came DirecTV, then came Charter and Verizon, and now -- at long last -- RCN cable subscribers can look forward to fixing their eyes on The Smithsonian Channel HD. Sure enough, the network managed to land a high-definition carriage agreement with RCN Corporation, and while we're left to assume that it'll be hitting all of the firm's nationwide systems (please, pretty please!), we are told that this deal brings the channel's availability up to some 22.5 million households across the US. Sadly, a definitive launch date wasn't mentioned, but be sure to keep a close eye on that EPG, alright?

For avid fans of National Geographic HD, you've now got quite a few more reasons to keep on watching. Aside from upgrading its website with new videos and behind-the-scenes footage, Nat Geo will soon be launching Locked In -- which "provides a look inside a Georgia prison with some of the country's most hardened criminals" -- and Who Knew? with Marshall Brain. Additionally, the popular Dog Whisperer will be making a return, and a number of specials including Herod's Lost Tomb, Secret Service Files, On Board Air Force One and Drain the Ocean are all slated to appear within a year or so from now. Furthermore, it looks as if the network is aiming to "move aggressively into VOD," as it hopes to have the service in 40 million homes over the next year while delivering content in HD to 20 million domiciles.

It's that time again -- you know, the moment when San Antonians that rely on Time Warner Cable (partly owned by Time Warner, parent company of AOL, which owns Engadget) can look forward to even more HD channels when they flip on the set. TWC has been doing its part to add a (small) number of high-definition stations of late, including a few here in the Raleigh market this month, and those dwelling in south-central Texas should now be able to view the Lifetime Movie Network (LMN), Food Network HD, HGTV HD and The History Channel HD. We know, it's not the most enthralling list of additions, but hey, we'll take what we can get.
