A month is a long time to go without ATMC Cable adding a new HD channel, but just as it promised earlier this year, PBS HD has finally hit the lineup. With the addition, the North Carolina-based cable company has grown its high-def lineup to 37 channels, and those with an HD receiver or HD DVR can tune in now for no extra charge on slot 908.

Another month, another high-def station for the relatively diminutive amount of ATMC Cable subscribers. The small, North Carolina-based carrier has a knack for making the big fellows look awfully bad, and it's doing so once more by adding Fox News HD to its HD lineup. The newcomer can be found on slot 905, and if this one really isn't your bag, don't worry -- history says ATMC will be adding more in just a bit.

  • ATMC Cable keeps it up, adds Weather Channel HD / SciFi HD

Really, this is bordering on absurd. While many of the mega-carriers let markets go month upon months without nary a mention of a new high-def channel, North Carolina-based ATMC Cable barely goes a fortnight without adding in a few newcomers. Effective immediately, the local provider has lit up Weather Channel HD (900) and SciFi HD (940), bringing its grand total of HD channels to 36. As if you really needed to be told, it'll be adding "even more" in September. Lucky...

North Carolina-based ATMC Cable has just acquired another local cable company, Tele-Media. The agreement will see "the majority of Tele-Media's cable television assets in Brunswick County" becomes ATMC's, and all areas currently served by Tele-Media (save for Bald Head Island) will soon be served by a new master. That means that just over 1,100 customers in the Bricklanding, Shell Point, Holden Beach / Seashore Road and Sunset Harbor / River Run areas will be affected, but judging by the way ATMC has been rolling high-def options out of late, we don't suspect anyone will complain. As it stands, the deal should close in early July, with another 75 - 90 days before the conversion is complete.

Yet again, ATMC Cable is showing the big boys how it should be done. The Shallotte, NC-based mini-carrier has just announced that USA HD has gone live on slot 937, and just so you know, PBS HD will be airing on July 1st. We're also told that Bravo HD, CNBC HD and SciFi HD are on the docket to be launched in the not-too-distant future, but unfortunately for the vast majority of the US, there's no clear plans for the operator to go national.

While many cable customers stuck with TWC, Charter, Cox or any of the other mega-cable carriers out there can't buy an HD channel, the relatively diminutive ATMC Cable is making sure its tiny footprint of North Carolina subscribers are getting the most for their dollar. Continuing its slow but steady rollout of high-def options, the outfit has just thrown Smithsonian HD into the mix. The channel lands softly on slot 961 and becomes partners with HDNet, HDNet Movies, HD Theater, Universal HD, National Geographic HD and MOJO HD in the appropriately titled HD Suite. Best of all, the company has promised even more offerings in the coming weeks, most notably USA HD and PBS HD.

Although we're still one shy of the three promised earlier this month, ATMC Cable subscribers in North Carolina can kick back and enjoy two more newcomers. Effective immediately, subscribers of the mini-carrier can find Animal Planet HD and Science Channel HD on slots 931 and 964, respectively, and per usual, neither will cost HD customers anything extra. Curiously, the release fails to mention the still missing PBS HD, but hopefully it too will surface sooner rather than later.

More great news for ATMC Cable subscribers in and around Shallotte, NC -- you've got two new high-definition channels coming your way. As of right this moment, customers can tune into Discovery HD (930) and TLC HD (931), and neither will cost you a dime extra if you're already paying for the Expanded cable package and an HD digital cable box. Best of all, ATMC isn't stopping at 28 high-def channels, as Animal Planet HD, Science HD and PBS HD are all slated to hit the lineup within "the coming weeks." Who says the little guys can't keep up?

For the love of mom 'n pop cable carriers! Just days after North Carolina's own ATMC Cable gave its tiny, but loyal subscriber base Speed HD and FX HD, it's already delivering on that promise of "more soon." With the (very) recent addition of Travel Channel HD on channel 912, the company is now beaming out some 25 high-definition stations. Better still, PBS HD, Animal Planet HD, Discovery Channel HD, Science Channel HD and TLC HD are slated to arrive "in the coming weeks," and judging by the short, but meaningful track record, we'd certainly count on it. Hey, big boys -- you getting all this?
