HTC Doubleshot outed as T-Mobile's MyTouch 4G Slide?
When 911Sniper posted the ROM for HTC's Doubleshot, Android enthusiasts began digging for signs of the speculated product name. In the process, a whole slew of specs were outed, and yes, it appears we're looking at none other than T-Mobile's MyTouch 4G Slide. In addition to the dual-core 1.2GHz processor we already reported, the data suggest we'll see a 3.7-inch screen, an 8 megapixel camera (with a lowly VGA shooter up front), and 768MB of RAM. Interestingly, codecs for 3D support were also found in the ROM, and while there's no indication these will make their way into the final build, it sure would add a whole new meaning to "double shot". While the original 3G Slide left us mostly indifferent, what we see here has the potential to be a winner for T-Mobile. Let's just hope they leave the user interface in HTC's capable hands this time around.
HTC Doubleshot appears in XML file, brings dual-core QWERTY handset to your future
When this curious bit of XML crossed our news desk today, we were immediately intrigued by the coyly-named HTC Doubleshot -- an 800 x 480 device that packs Gingerbread into a QWERTY slider. After further digging, it looks like the handset gets its distinction from a dual-core 1.2GHz Qualcomm MSM8260, which immediately elevates it into the realm of superphone. Given the resolution and form factor, look for a screen size of 3.6 to 4 inches. While others have hastily speculated the inclusion of a 6+ megapixel camera, we've noted the widescreen aspect ratio, and suspect we'll see the same 8 megapixel shooter on this device that's found in some of HTC's other phones. Basically, think of it as a sliding Sensation, but with a lower resolution screen. We've taken note of the coffee allusion, and suspect the Doubleshot involves more than one quietly brilliant company from the Seattle area (think magenta). If we're right about the T-Mobile connection, look for an HSPA+ handset that could potentially take life as the MyTouch 4G Slide. Care to join us in the speculation?
T-Mobile myTouch 3G Slide official: Android 2.1, QWERTY, coming in June (we go hands-on)
Hey, CLIQ, better check that rear-view mirror, because you've got an interesting competitor coming right up on your tail. T-Mobile is launching another midrange Android QWERTY slider -- some might argue the G1's true successor -- christened the myTouch 3G Slide (not quite the "myTouch Slide" we've been hearing for a few months) with a 3.4-inch HVGA display, 5 megapixel camera, and a pretty heavily-customized skin based on Android 2.1. How custom are we talking, exactly? Well, it's not quite like anything we've seen on a production Android device before, featuring a host of custom apps including the "Faves Gallery," a social aggregator for your most dearly beloved contacts; "myModes," a profile manager that can change the phone's themes and settings based on time or location; the Swype keyboard in place of Google's option; and the so-called "Genius Button," which seeks to extend Android's already decent voice command and text-to-speech systems by allowing you to do just about anything on the phone using your voice, hear messages read back to you, and so on. In the myTouch 3G tradition, the Slide will come in a selection of colors when it launches in June -- black, white, or red -- for a to-be-announced price. myTouch Slide found in the wild, looking good in red
Yeah, we saw the myTouch Slide back in January, but it certainly seems to have come a long way in the past few months. For starters, the phone is on now, showing off a slightly custom Android UI and that 480 x 320 screen. The handset also looks to have gotten a fancy red (or is that form of pink?) paint job, and doesn't look half bad for it. Our guess is we'll be seeing this in a number of colors, just like the myTouch 3G, but that's just speculation. There aren't any other details about the phone on offer here, or knowledge on exactly how this shot managed to leak out, but we figure we'll be learning more soon enough.
T-Mobile's myTouch Slide earns its FCC wings?
Seeing HTC leak a shot of a product through a confidential FCC filing is about as rare as a confirmed yeti sighting, so you can imagine our excitement with this fresh meat that just landed in the Fed's files today. What is it, exactly? Well, it's a smartphone running 3G on WCDMA Band IV, which -- for those who don't have their bands memorized -- is the AWS spectrum that T-Mobile uses. In other words, we'd bet our bottom dollar that this is the rumored Android-equipped myTouch Slide that we're looking at here -- and with a Spring launch window having been rumored in the past, this certification looks like it's running right on time. Your move, T-Mobile.
myTouch Slide leaks from Radio Shack Direct2U system
What do we have here, then? According to an anonymous tipster, this is the first appearance of the rumored myTouch Slide -- the alleged and presumed successor to the G1 on T-Mobile -- in Radio Shack's (um, "The Shack's") Direct2U system. These things are always to be taken with a grain of salt, but really -- who would fake this? All we can say is that we sure hope that when the image does arrive ("soon") it looks a sight better than the pics we've already seen.
T-Mobile myTouch Slide in the wild?
With the G1 on its last legs, the CLIQ stands as T-Mobile USA's only QWERTY Android set -- and for a carrier that seems as committed to Android as T-Mobile does, that doesn't seem right, now, does it? Indeed, that rumored myTouch Slide looks like it's going to get real here pretty shortly now that we're seeing shots of the thing in the wild, and... well, it looks nothing like the original myTouch 3G (and even less like the Fender edition). Beauty is certainly in the eye of the beholder -- and we'd want to wait until we see this in the flesh -- but the myTouch Slide appears to lack the old model's attractive contours, sticking with a spartan design strangely paired to a chrome-ringed earpiece. Besides the clear addition of an optical pad here (something we'd previously heard HTC would be pushing hard in 2010), it's apparently got an HVGA display, externally accessible microSD slot, camera with flash, and unfortunately, an old-school ARM11 processor. We're holding out hope that T-Mobile has plenty of higher-end gear waiting in the wings, but for now, this looks like the G1's true spiritual successor.
HTC Magic's user agent profile says it has a QWERTY keyboard, possible myTouch Slide for T-Mobile?
We'd just heard the other day some hot rumors that HTC's aging Magic would see a new version on T-Mobile this Spring with a physical keyboard added into the mix, and now we've got some corroborating evidence: an official user agent profile for the Sapphire (HTC's original codename for the phone) that proudly boasts of its QWERTY capability. You might think that this doesn't mean much since even Android phones without physical keyboard still have access to QWERTY through software, but actually, the "prf:Keyboard" line in these bundles of XML typically reads "No" if there isn't an actual keyboard in tow. Ironically, the original myTouch just got reworked with a 3.5mm headphone jack, but who knows -- maybe T-Mobile's evil plan is to let the old one soldier on for another handful of months and offer a new model just above it with a whole bunch of extra keys?
T-Mobile signed up for HTC Espresso, new Garmin phone in first half of the year?
Bringing the mighty HD2 on board is already quite a win for T-Mobile USA, but the fun doesn't stop there -- clearly these guys must have some other exclusives in the works, and TmoNews is noticing a tip trend toward a couple specific devices. First up, the phone we've heard rumored as the HTC Espresso is said to be coming to Big Magenta (we just made that up, you like it?) as either the myTouch 2 or myTouch Slide. Why "Slide," you ask? Well, there'll apparently be some sort of QWERTY keyboard in tow -- which, if true, hopefully means the carrier will be getting its non-QWERTY Android love from somewhere else. Next, T-Mobile is said to be working with Garmin (or Garmin-Asus, as it were) on a handset, something that would make perfect sense considering that we just saw an AWS-compliant device from those guys in the FCC. In terms of timing, we're rumored to be looking at May for both of these -- but considering how rarely these dates stay steady this far in advance, we wouldn't even raise an eyebrow if they slipped into the second half.
