AT&T reported that it is continuing the expansion of its 4G LTE network throughout the US, with Akron and Canton, Ohio and Lafayette, Indiana being added to the list. AT&T is promising 4G LTE expansion to 12 cities by summer, including Cleveland, Ohio; Baton Rouge and New Orleans, Louisiana; Naples, Florida; St. Louis, Missouri; and Staten Island, New York. The network is said to be up to ten times faster than that of the AT&T 3G network that still predominates the wireless carrier's coverage portfolio in the US. The AT&T version of the third-generation iPad supports 4G LTE; the next version of the iPhone is expected to also support 4G LTE.

Faux-G or 4G -- whatever you choose to call it, T-Mobile's sprinkling more of that mobile might to its subs across the nation. The carrier's just expanded the footprint of its 42Mbps flavor of HSPA+ to an additional 11 cities, letting proud owners of its newborn Amaze 4G and Galaxy S II variant enjoy battery-slurping high speeds in a total of 163 markets. Magenta's sprightly, albeit lesser 21Mbps network has also gotten a shot of Miracle-Gro, now branching out to nine more spots for a total of 208 locations. You can peep the full list of new markets after the break, as well as the requisite boastful PR.

Just when we're finally basking in the warmth of spring and picking May flowers, US Cellular finds a reason for us to look forward to the cold and dark winter to come. The carrier announced plans to deploy its own LTE network, intent on blanketing two dozen markets (representing 25 percent of its customer base) with blazing-fast 4G service in time for the holiday season. And the party ain't stopping just because the mistletoe comes down and the decorations are put away; the holiday deployment will only be the first phase, with US Cellular continuing its 4G expansion efforts through 2012. Full PR after the break.

We needn't reiterate that Verizon is madly in love with the northeast, but just in case you had any doubts, we'll point you to these two network expansion projects. The operator responsible for bringing FiOS TV to select communities has just completed a $600 million enhancement program in the Bay State while sealing up a similar deal for $100 million in Rhode Island. The projects enabled it to bring FiOS TV service to another 29 and 12 communities in each respective state, and it also delivered high-speed internet and expanded wireless coverage to more areas in both regions. And with that, we fully expect Verizon to start FiOS TV rollouts in the southeast and central US -- right Verizon? Right?Read - Rhode Island expansionRead - Massachusetts expansion

We all can remember a time when our mobile Internet experience consisted of the painful trickling bytes that only GPRS can deliver. It would seem O2's trying to turn German's frowns upside down by broadening its EDGE footprint with 700 GPRS sites getting a speed bump from a measly 53kbps to a more pleasant 236kbps. A further 4500 sites are green lighted for upgrade and that can be expected before the end of the year. O2 has also noted that 75 percent of its UMTS network has already been upgraded to 3.6Mbit HSDPA and they are working to roll out HSUPA in 2009.
