Hey Cingular subscribers, get ready to get your thin AT&T on. Samsung just announced the prices and availability of their SGH-A717 and SFH-A727 slimsters. Sure, those model numbers aren't overly appealing until you remember that these are members of Samsung's 3G Ultra lineup for Stateside consumption: the 12.9-mm thin A717 clamshell and 9.9-mm A727 candybar. So we're talking quad-band GSM, dual-band 850MHz/1900MHz HSDPA data, Bluetooth 2.0, microSD, and MobiTV and MobiRadio. Sure we've run those specs before but it just feels so good we can't help but repeat. Expect the A717 to hit on June 4th for $150 with the A727 to follow in the "coming weeks" (June 16th judging by the date in those pictures) for $100 -- after 2 year contract and $50 mail-in rebate of course, which you'll probably forget to send in. Anybody else feeling a touch nostalgic at seeing the AT&T logo on an all black phone?

  • Samsung A717 and A727 in AT&T trim

We knew the A717 and A727 Ultra-esque handsets from Samsung were destined for AT&T, but since we saw them at CES, it appears that no new phones are going be released with Jack silkscreened on the front -- so they've gone back to the shop for rebranding. These here are the first "official" leaked shots of the newly AT&T-branded models, providing some comforting reassurance that the super-slim models are still destined for our 3G airwaves. As a refresher, the A717 does HSDPA, Video Share (presumably), an external OLED display, A2DP, microSD expansion, and a 2 megapixel cam all in a flip form factor, while the A727 packs a 1.3 megapixel camera, A2DP, microSD, HSDPA (at CES we were hearing UMTS only, but hey, who are we to complain?), and a 220 x 176 landscape display into a svelte 8.9mm candybar shell. No word on a release date, but we'll go with "not soon enough."

  • FCC makes Samsung SGH-A727's wildest dreams come true

It's no surprise that the FCC might take some interest in the 8.9 millimeter, 3G-capable A727 from Samsung, seeing how it was bearing Cingular / AT&T firmware when we peeped it at CES -- and seeing how ultra-thin candybars are slim for the picking (pun intended) on the US' one and only live WCDMA network at the moment, we're delighted to see the feds issue their stamp of approval. Still no word on when we might see it launch, or whether it'll bear Cingular or AT&T branding when it does, but as usual we'd ask everyone to work nights and weekends to get it expedited, mkay?

  • Samsung's A727 for Cingular in the flesh

We haven't seen an HSDPA candybar for those funky American bands yet -- much less an 8.9 millimeter thick candybar -- so the Z370-alike A727 should be a warmly welcomed addition to Cingular's small army of 3G devices. To be fair, neither Cingular nor Samsung have actually announced where this handset's gonna land, but a quick check of the main menu reveals a "Cingular Mall" item. We'll let y'all draw your own conclusions.

  • Samsung's 8.9mm SGH-A727 does quadband GSM

When we see a company like Samsung announce an unusually hot phone -- say, a sub-10 millimeter candybar with UMTS, for example -- our knee-jerk reaction is that it'll never be sold stateside, and more than likely, we aren't even given the common courtesy of GSM 850 (never mind UMTS 850 / 1900). With today's announcement of the SGH-A727, though, we're delighted to be proven wrong. The handset takes pages from the aforementioned Z370's and the X820's book, offering decent functionality in an impossibly thin package. Granted, 8.9 millimeters is (almost literally) a hair thicker than the X820's 6.9, but we'll gladly take the 3G data in return. Besides UMTS and quadband GSM, other notable features include a 1.3 megapixel shooter, Bluetooth with A2DP, and a 220 x 176 landscape display. We're crossing our fingers that the UMTS radio hits all the requisite North American bands -- more on that as CES soldiers on -- but if nothing else, we're golden in the GSM department.[Via phoneArena]
