It's a moderately good day to be an Oklahoman. Wireless subscribers living near Oklahoma City or Tulsa will be among the first to reap the benefits of a new collaboration between Cox Communications and Verizon Wireless that bundles services from both companies, letting customers sign up for packages that include video, internet and voice services from Cox, and wireless service from VZW at a discounted rate. They'll also be eligible to receive debit cards valued at $100-400 if they make the switch to a co-sponsored bundle. You can head over to select retail outlets from either company to sign up, or hit up the source links past the break for more info.

  • Rocket Racers are go: two aircraft put on a show in Tulsa

This isn't the first time that would-be competitors in the Rocket Racing League have taken to the skies, but the recent Tusla Air & Rocket Racing Show did mark the first time that two of the aircraft have flown together, giving spectators a taste of what an actual rocket race might be like. Those actually looking up are only seeing part of what makes the Rocket Racing League so unique, however, as a key component of it is an augmented reality system that not only lets the pilots and viewers alike see the virtual course, but promises to eventually let folks at home test their skills against real pilots. What's more, all of this may not be all that far off -- Rocket Racing League founder Peter Diamandis (of X-Prize fame) is hoping to kick off the first series of races sometime next year. Until then, you'll have to make do with the video after the break.

  • AT&T Total Home DVR rollout reaches final ten markets, it's really over

Got U-Verse? Then you should have the Total Home DVR record on one box / stream to all functionality now that AT&T's rollout has finished ahead of schedule. Up in all 69 markets where the IPTV service has a foothold, the final ten markets launched today were: Bakersfield, Dayton, Green Bay, Jacksonville, Little Rock, Miami, South Bend, Tulsa, West Palm Beach and Wichita. Honestly, we're not sure what AT&T (or us for that matter) will do now that it's over, the leading candidates are a "Remember the Rollout" reunion tour in early '09, or the somewhat less likely possibility that confused AT&T techs start adding the functionality to random areas without U-Verse service.

Look out Cox -- a new competitor just rolled into town, and it's rolling in on fiber. AT&T has just announced the launch of U-verse in Tulsa, Oklahoma, bringing high-speed internet, digital phone and fiber-based television programming (2 HD / 2 SD included) to one of OK's largest cities. As of right now, the service can be ordered by select customers in Tulsa, Jenks and Owasso, and while AT&T isn't handing out a timetable, it is stating that U-verse services will be made available to "more homes throughout the area on an ongoing basis." So, anyone going to give it a shot?

Just two months after Oklahoma City and Tulsa received a new trio of high-def channels from Cox Communications, a new six-pack has found its way onto the on-deck circle. Based on an updated HD channel lineup for both of the aforementioned cities, residents can expect Sci-Fi HD (752), Lifetime HD (759), Bravo HD (763), CNBC (784), Weather Channel HD (785) and USA HD (732) to arrive in short order. Sadly, we're not sure exactly what day to expect the new half dozen, but hopefully "Coming Soon" is just hours (rather than days, weeks or months) away.[Thanks, Philip]

  • Cricket launches first AWS CDMA handset

It doesn't look like much, but it's the innards of UTStarcom's unassuming CDM7126 flip that makes it a superstar. It turns out that this is the very first CDMA phone to launch in the US on AWS bandwidth, meaning that in addition to the typical 850 and 1900MHz support, this one adds in a little extra coverage punch via the new 1700MHz spectrum that T-Mobile is also sharing for its 3G services. We spied the CDM7126 at CES earlier this year -- hence the somewhat unusual picture -- and while we can't find it hiding out on carrier partner Cricket's website, residents of Tulsa, Oklahoma should be able to march into stores as soon as today to pick 'er up. Don't get too excited, though; other than the noteworthy use of AWS, the phone lacks EV-DO and an external display. Yikes![Via Phone Scoop]

For those that call Tulsa, Oklahoma home and are sick and / or tired of tuning into SD newscasts each night, you finally have a better option. Effectively immediately, residents in the Tulsa area can now point their antenna to the region's NBC affiliate (KJRH Channel 2) and receive news in high-definition. Best of all, the station will be broadcasting all of its news -- 28 hours worth per week -- in HD, and if you really want to know how lucky you are, the next closest station(s) to Tulsa to do the same are in Dallas, Texas. Enjoy, Tulsans.

TUAW reader Ryan sent us a photo he snapped at the Woodland Hills Mall in Tulsa, OK, earlier this week. The photo clearly displays the word "Apple" in front of a store that's under construction. However, Ryan tells us that, since he took this photo, the temporary storefront has been painted black. We checked out the retail jobs listings for Oklahoma at Apple.com and sure enough Woodland Hills Mall in Tulsa is listed. Looks like you've got an Apple Store coming, Tulsa!
