Imation Pro WX Wireless USB hard drive review
Imation was set to announce its first-ever Wireless USB hard drive a year ago, but it lost a dear friend shortly before it materialized and we'd heard nothing since then. Today Imation has returned -- holding hands with its new partner, Staccato -- to release the Pro WX 1.5 terabyte Wireless USB hard drive for both Windows and Mac. At $449.99, though, we thought to ourselves: does the Pro WX offer something extraordinary for the premium price? Or are you better off with a NAS device like Apple's infamous Time Capsule? We ran some quick tests to find out -- do read on for some juicy results.
Motorola prepping new low-end WX series?
Motorola's already got a low-end series whose members are identified with the letter W at the start of the model name (take T-Mobile's W233 Renew, for instance), so we're not sure if they'll be going away or if Moto wants to slot in another ultra-low-end range below it -- but one way or another, mobil.cz seems to have the inside line on a new WX series that's on its way to market. We're talking about seriously basic stuff here: tiny cameras, little to no internal storage, small displays, and in the case of the one model mobil.cz supposedly has full details on -- the WX395 -- just dual-band GPRS data on board. Who knew component vendors still made EDGE-less 2G chipsets? No word on availability for these, but we don't think these are the kinds of phones you cross off days on a calendar for anyhow.
Verizon to bring LBS to PDAs
Are you tired of seeking out third-party nav applications for your Palm 700wx or Motorola Q? We hear you on that -- and it turns out Verizon does, too. Word has it that The Network is testing navigation service for PDA devices (a la VZW Navigator for dumbphones) and it should be available some time in the third quarter of this year.
