Texas Instruments announces DaVinci video technology

Texas Instruments logo

DaVinci is a new technology (read: a family of processors with integrated software and development tools) from Texas Instruments bent on toppling major world religions simplifying and accelerating the design and production of sophisticated digital video devices such as set-top boxes, handhelds, automotive gear, etc. — you name it, they say they'll optimize it. Today, hardware designers must slap together several processors to create a multipurpose video device. In the future, the same designers will be able to choose the appropriate DaVinci chip "from a menu of supported, production-ready features" saving both time and money. TI expects to announce processor samples, software and tools by "year's end," with prototypes on display at CES in January.
