Among them is Peacock, NBCUniversal's offering, which might very well be free for everyone when it debuts in April.

Apple has ordered yet another TV series to add to its growing list of star-backed original productions. The company signed network sci-fi luminary Ronald D. Moore, veteran of several Star Trek series and developer of the Battlestar Galactica reboot, to create a completely new space drama. The show will explore what would have happened if the space race between the United States, Soviet Russia and the rest of the world hadn't ended.

There has long been talk of a Battlestar Galactica movie (supposedly as far back as 1999), but it looks like the flick is becoming more than just a bunch of whispers. Universal has signed on well-known producers Dylan Clark (Rise of the Planet of the Apes), Michael De Luca (The Social Network) and Scott Stuber (Ted) to helm a big-screen version of the humanity-versus-Cylon struggle. The X-Men series' Bryan Singer is reportedly involved as an executive producer, but it's not certain that he'll direct.

After seven seasons (the last one stretched out as far as it will go), AMC's flagship series Mad Men is coming to an end this weekend. While some will say goodbye to Don Draper and the rest of the crew (Google Play put together a "fan experience" to help you look back), there's a slew of other finales hitting this week. Castle, Arrow, CSI: Cyber (well...), Elementary, Scandal and a number of others are wrapping up their seasons, so it's a good time to binge and catch up. The NBA and NHL playoffs are also cranking up the intensity, so sports fans will want to see which series go the full seven games. On Blu-ray, Wet Hot American Summer is arriving along with the original Battlestar Galactica series, while gamers can start playing Project Cars on consoles too. Look after the break to check out each day's highlights, including trailers and let us know what you think (or what we missed).

  • Free for All: Ten of my favorite in-game items

I love things. Truly I do. Only specific things, though. Over the last year I have doubled my efforts to catalog most of the best things in my life, from pictures and artwork to writings and songs I have played on. It's a sort of meta-hobby. As part of the effort I want to organize many of my favorite MMO in-game items, simply because I have played MMOs for so long and they are such a part of my life. I have a lot of favorite items, but some tend to stick out in my memory like a favorite smell or place. After I finished an initial list of MMO items (it was well over 50 items in the beginning), I was surprised at how much variety there was in the items and in the games I listed. I think it reflects my character a lot, but also shows that I am a sentimental plod most of the time. I cut the list down to these 10, but I am sure I will wish to adjust the list again in the future. Feel free to add your own favorites in the comments section!

Arguably the best science fiction series in some time, Battlestar Galactica aired its last season almost three years ago with a few spinoffs since. The latest spinoff movie is the prequel Blood & Chrome which tell the story of young William Adama and his trials on the Galactica during the first Cylon war. The 97 minute feature film will be initially available online as 10 episodes via Machinima Prime between November 9th and February. Then it will premiere on the Syfy channel and finally become available on Blu-ray, DVD, On Demand and digital download on February 19th, 2013. We'll be interested to see how this unorthodox release window works out for Universal Studios Home Entertainment, in the meantime more details are available in the full release, along with a trailer after the break.

  • How to get a Hopling pet

No, I still don't care about pet battles. But I do still think the Virmen are the second coolest race in Mists of Pandaria (just behind mogu, just ahead of mantid) and when I found out that it was possible to get a little virmen pet, I leapt on the chance. Above you see me standing with my new hopling pet. How did I get him? By completing the Stormstout Brewery achievement Ling-Ting's Herbal Journey, with help from both Wow Insider and Wowhead commenters. First off, commenter loopnotdefined tipped me off that you could complete the achievement after the dungeon had been cleared in yesterday's Stormstout Brewery tanking post. From there, I went to Wowhead, which had a guide to the location of the Golden Hoplings posted by Shirah2003, which was very helpful. Then I noticed commenter Savagekrosa had a handy macro for helping to find the hoplings, which I modified by making the hoplings my focus target, which puts a dot on my map giving me their exact location. So after a clear of the Brewery, I ran back to Auntie Stormstout, bought 5 of Ling-Ting's Favorite Tea, and went back through the place using the macro from Savagekrosa to find the hoplings. And now I'm the proud companion to a little virmen hopling of my very own. Thanks to everyone involved in making it possible, and whether you just want a new friend or are a pet battle fanatic, the hopling is waiting for you to come find him. Or her. Looks more like a her to me. It's open warfare between Alliance and Horde in Mists of Pandaria, World of Warcraft's next expansion. Jump into five new levels with new talents and class mechanics, try the new monk class, and create a pandaren character to ally with either Horde or Alliance. Look for expansion basics in our Mists FAQ, or dig into our spring press event coverage for more details!

Bigpoint's browser-based Battlestar Galactica Online is a certifiable hit according to a new press release touting the fact that the title recently surpassed one million registered players. The milestone comes a scant six weeks after the launch of BSGO's open beta period and dovetails nicely with the news that the game is getting an engine upgrade as well as new ship content. "There is always a risk when you translate a well-known IP into another medium. We built what we believed was a recipe for success; a fantastic gaming experience inspired by an iconic show, with the added benefit of being a free-to-play title," explains Bigpoint CEO Heiko Hubertz. Head to the official Battlestar Galactica Online website for more info on the game and the new upgrades.

  • The Perfect Ten: Phases of pre-launch hysteria

    02.23.2011

One of my private theories about MMO players -- one I'm now making public -- is that we all have the collective memories of goldfish. It's the only way to explain why we go through the same exact phases each and every time an MMO nears launch, all the while acting as though this has never happened before. In a way, it's kind of cute. You're cute, MMO community! Really, it's just one of those events during which everyone starts rational yet slowly but surely slides down into the multi-colored stomach of hysteria. It's why MMO communities pre-beta tend to be tight, intelligent and excited, but from beta through launch they lose their cool and become a morass of screeching monkeys, flinging poo every which way in a vain effort to be heard above the noise of the zoo. Mind you, I've been one of these monkeys, so I'm not excusing myself from this metaphor. So if you're wondering why the blissful excitement of anticipating a game has fractured under the weight of inconsolable insanity, I'm here to walk you through the 10 phases of how and why this happens for most major MMO launches.

  • 8-inch robot wreaks havoc on Denver commuters, Cylon war narrowly averted

The Capricans in Denver, Colorado should can consider themselves blessed by the Gods. An 8-inch tall Centurion was spotted near Coors Field park, prompting one citizen to notify the police. You probably know what happened next: adjacent 20th street was closed causing rush hour traffic to pile up, and two hours later, after being unable to determine at the time if it was safe, the bomb squad remotely detonated the little Centurion. Move along, nothing to see here. It's not like they walk among us in human form or anything. Yet. [Thanks to everyone who sent this in]

It looks like Bigpoint is stepping closer and closer to launching the browser-based Battlestar Galactica MMO. Open beta is due this December with launch exclusively on SyFy.com this fall. (Sci-fi on SyFy? Yes!) Fans will be happy to know that the game will be firmly set in the popular television show's universe complete with warring factions, exploration, mission-based PvE and lots of player-obliterates-player combat! Ah, the joys of exploring the unique sights and ships of the Battlestar universe. Right now, closed beta players are being asked to finish a tutorial mission -- as either human or cylon -- then are sent off to freely explore the universe. They can experiment with mining, PvE or PvP content, or even exploring the Battlestar, space outposts, planet bases or a Cylon basestar! We all know that Cylons rule and humans drool, so this is good news. Read on!

Welcome back to The Queue, WoW.com's daily Q&A column where the WoW.com team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. Mike Sacco will be your host today. Normally I'm all right with birds, but this one kept murdering me in cold blood last night on my priest, even though I was several levels higher than him. I mean, there are elite magnataur out there in the same zone with one-fourth the HP of this damn bird. What do you want from me, Alystros? I pay my taxes, I vote, I volunteer at the local museum. The least you could do is cut your HP and damage by about 75% so I can convert your corpse into gold and experience. And what does that have to do with The Queue? Nothing, dear readers. Absolutely nothing. Brysterside asked via Twitter: What is the best way to start a WoW blog? Simply put? Start writing! If you want to blog, you have to write. Find something you're passionate about in the game and write write write, because two things will keep readers coming: good content, and regular content. Make sure that you can provide both. It's not easy getting the discipline to be a regular blogger -- just ask me -- but the payoff can be big in many ways. WoW.com has a series of articles on starting your own WoW blog, which you can start here. Hope that helps!

Universal really comes to the rescue this week with a very nice slate of releases. As if Battlestar Galactica: The Complete Series wasn't enough -- although totally unaffordable for most people -- there is also Season 4.5 as well as the entire Fast & Furious franchise. On top of all that, there is 12 Monkeys which is a classic that we can't wait to see in HD. Fox also has a few titles this week including the first season of Dollhouse and Sony has the classic depressing drama, A River Runs Through It. The other really notable titles this week -- for geeks at least -- is a little Doctor Who and Torchwood, both courtesy of the BBC and Warner. This should give you plenty to watch in the next few weeks, which is a good thing since releases get skimpy again next week. Finally, Universal has confirmed the rumors that Battlestar Galactica: The Complete Series will arrive on Blu-ray July 28, packing the previously noted $349 MSRP for the 20 disc set. There's plenty of exclusive Blu-ray features planned, with U-control, DTS-HD MA soundtrack, an interactive guide to the ships and characters from the series, a BD-Live powered "Ultimate Battle" game, look behind the scenes with composer Bear McCreary and more. Not mentioned? Whether or not all that cash can buy a slightly better case design this time around.[Via TheHDRoom]

Just like that, a couple of days after being confirmed, the Battlestar Galactica Complete Series Blu-ray set is up on Amazon for preorder. Sporting an MSRP of $349.98 (Amazon price: $244.99) it might make the wallet choke but we're pretty sure the three of you that didn't already click over, credit cards out, are the only ones not willing to shell out for what is (hopefully) the perfect way to catch every episode and the extended cut of Razor. Waiting for Battlestar Galactica to come home properly has been the source of heartbreak more than once so far, but the upcoming Caprica DVD appears to confirm rumors we'll be seeing a full series Blu-ray set sooner rather than later. Internet rumors have pegged the date as July 28, and on the prequel's DVD release a promo is included referencing the complete series coming soon on DVD and Blu-ray high def, so get your pennies together, while it will certainly be expensive this should be the one that's worth buying -- if they didn't get rid of the technology for disc packaging yet.

Though there are few things as potentially cringe-worthy as a Battlestar Galactica-themed case mod (or toaster, or pumpkin), we must admit that this project is pretty impressive. Going beyond the realm of the expected (landing bay, running lights, engine pods and a suitable sci-fi paint job), this custom build rocks an array of ambitious features, including three 2.5-inch LCD screens, a 10-inch LCD on the left side panel and an automatic right side panel door (aka: "airlock"). The front of the case sports a laser-cut acrylic Battlestar Galactica logo that has been mounted to a slot-loading DVD drive (the disc appears to spin inside the logo) and the whole case is complimented by a suitably modified keyboard and monitor. If your curiosity has been whetted, hit the read link for a ton of images and blow-by-blow description of the build process ... and be sure to check out the videos after the break.
