'Galaxy Note7' name confirmed by leaked pics
Can't wait for Samsung's next entry into the plus-sized phone category? A tweet from Evan Blass aka evleaks reveals three colors of what will apparently be called the Galaxy Note7 (no space?), in Black Onyx, Silver Titanium and Blue Coral. There have been rumors about the phone and its number-skipping name floating around, but the clear images confirm this is what we'll see announced this summer. Naturally, there's a stylus and curved edges, while the specs cited by Blass on Android Police include a 5.7-inch QHD Super AMOLED display, 12MP/5MP front/rear camera setup, 64GB of storage and IP68-rated water resistance.
Lenovo's new Droids might be shiny and metallic
See those phones above? They might be three versions of the Droid Lenovo's launching in an upcoming event in June. Evan Blass (aka evleaks), well-known source of device leaks, has posted the photo on Twitter, and people seem to have anointed the black-and-bronze model as the Beyoncé of this trio. While the image only shows the Motorola and the Droid logos, the phone will likely have Verizon's branding somewhere, since the line's exclusive to the carrier.
Leak shows Verizon's 10-inch budget tablet
You might not be very fond of Verizon's Ellipsis tablets, but they do serve a purpose: they're low-cost ways to get LTE data access on the road. And apparently, there are enough people buying them that the carrier is making a larger version. Evan Blass (aka @evleaks) has posted press shots of an Ellipsis 10 slate that (surprise!) translates Verizon's no-frills Android strategy to a 10-inch display. There are no details as to what's under the hood, but it's clear that this tablet should run at least Lollipop. As for the release date and price? There's nothing nailed down yet -- we're as in the dark as you are. The network has previously released Ellipsis models in early November for about $250, however, so you may well see history repeat itself.
HTC 'Aero' leak shows iPhone-like colors, mid-range power
We now know just about everything about HTC's upcoming One A9 'Aero' smartphone, thanks to phone leaker Evan Blass, aka @evleaks. If he's right, it's not the high-end, 10-core model we were expecting, but rather a mid-ranger aimed at style-conscious types, with no less than six color options. The skeptical among us might notice that it vaguely resembles an iPhone 6s, and in fact has three color choices that are nigh-on identical to Apple's latest handsets (rose gold, carbon gray and silver). But it's otherwise a pale imitation of that phone (and other HTC One devices), with a middling Snapdragon 617 CPU, 2GB of RAM and a 1080p screen.
LG is making a phone with a secondary ticker display
Every now and then, smartphone makers try building devices with secondary, ticker-like displays in the hopes of reeling you in with more at-a-glance info -- witness Samsung's Continuum or Galaxy Note Edge. And it's LG's turn, apparently. China's TENAA regulator just recently tested the V10, a phone with a ticker display at the top. Notice how the front camera has been moved to the side in the photo you see above? It's not clear exactly how this would work, but you'd likely have a way to activate that ticker without turning on the main screen.
BlackBerry's 'Venice' Android slider is coming to AT&T (update)
Rumors of a fully Android-powered BlackBerry device popped up again last month, and today Evan Blass aka evleaks has posted a picture showing a glimpse of the phone. Specs for the alleged "Venice" popped up on N4BB a couple of weeks ago, calling it a slider with a 5.4-inch screen, 18MP rear camera and 1.8GHz Hexa-core CPU. According to Blass, the Venice will run Android, and is coming to AT&T first. Update: We're told the picture is of the old Passport with the screen mocked up, but the "Venice" is coming, and should have a more sensible profile.
Leak hints that HTC's next flagship phone comes in two sizes
You'd be forgiven for not knowing what to expect from HTC's next flagship smartphone. The images that have emerged are frequently dodgy, and there are even claims that the company is seeding decoys to throw people off the scent. However, you might finally be looking at the real thing... or rather, things. Well-known leaker Evan Blass (aka @evleaks) has posted a supposed product shot displaying a pair of differently-sized, previously unseen devices that he believes to be HTC's successors to the One M8. Both have edge-mounted front speakers, a large front camera (UltraPixel?) and the super-thin bezels that many have been asking for. The designs are feasible, although that Galaxy S5-style home button on the larger version gives us reason for pause -- either this is sketchy, or HTC's lawyers have decided that Samsung won't get angry. You'll likely know more at HTC's media event on March 1st.
Here's what Google's giant Nexus 6 phone (probably) looks like
You may have already seen concepts and sketchy photos of Google's long-fabled 6-inch Nexus, but it now looks like the final veil of secrecy has been removed from this future Android flagship. Evan Blass (aka @evleaks) has posted an apparent leaked press image for the new smartphone that supports many of the existing rumors. The massive screen full of Android L imagery is likely the biggest giveaway, but the device also has the Moto X-style grilles and side trim that many have been expecting from the reportedly Motorola-made device. There aren't any new hints as to when this supersized hardware would arrive, and it's still not completely certain that this is what you'll eventually hold in your hands. However, Google's tendency to unveil new Nexus gear around October or November suggests that you won't have very long to wait.
Motorola's Moto X sequel spotted
Want a good, clear look at one of the devices Motorola is expected to unveil at its September 4th event? You've got it. As a parting shot, retiring leaker Evan Blass (aka @evleaks) has posted press images for Motorola's next big flagship smartphone, frequently known as the X+1. It largely confirms what previously appeared in some dimly-lit photos, including dual camera flashes, a wooden back option and Moto E-style front-facing speakers. There are a couple of new tidbits, though. The Verizon logo leaves no doubts about one of the supporting US carriers, and we're curious about those dots on the top and bottom bezels -- are they Fire phone-like face tracking cameras, plain old screws or something else? You'll get the full scoop in a couple of weeks, but this serves as a nice (if very unofficial) teaser.
The new HTC One appears to be getting a bigger, badder cousin
Rumors of a higher-end edition of the HTC One M8, the M8 Prime, have been difficult to pin down; we've seen little in the way of tangible evidence. However, things just got interesting. Frequent tipster @evleaks has posted what's reportedly a 360-degree render of the Prime, showing off a design with a few big differences from the current model. The most obvious may be the camera -- it's conspicuously bigger than that of the regular One, and it even juts out from the back. The phone also has a flatter, One Max-like body with a different surface than the current handset. According to @evleaks, the cosmetic change may stem from the use of an unusual aluminum and liquid silicone hybrid that would be both strong and heat-absorbing.
If LG's working on a Windows Phone 8 handset, this is what it'll look like
A picture is worth a thousand words, which is good, because the above image is all we've got. The gadget industry's person-in-the-know, evleaks, has posted what purports to be a shot of the LG Uni8, the company's first Windows Phone 8 device. The Uni8 would also be the first LG Windows phone since 2010, back in the days of the Optimus 7 and AT&T's Quantum. Given that the platform is struggling in the US and Asia, not to mention Microsoft's newly-minted purchase of Nokia, it seems an odd time for LG to leap back into the fold -- not that we're complaining, mind. Update: We've just received a denial from the folks over at LG, who have said that this isn't a phone that we're going to see released this year.
Nokia Lumia 930 picture leak hints at a Lumia Icon for the rest of the world
There have been rumblings about Nokia unveiling a Lumia 930 in the near future, but its actual design has remained elusive. However, frequent tipster @evleaks claims to have a press image of the new smartphone... and if the picture is accurate, it's effectively a Lumia Icon for everyone who isn't a Verizon customer. Not that we'd be complaining too much if that's the case, mind you. An Icon-like design would give the 930 top-tier features that include a 5-inch 1080p display, a 20-megapixel camera and a quick Snapdragon 800 processor. There aren't any clues as to what's under the hood just by looking at the picture, but we suspect we'll be hearing a lot more about the device at Nokia's Lumia-focused event this evening.
LG Lucid 3 leaks with updated design, no doubts on the carrier
We'll admit, we're getting mixed messages here. According to @evleaks' latest reveal there is very likely a new LG Lucid (number 3 to be specific) incoming for Verizon. Nothing unusual there, as it's been about a year since the last one. But if the images are accurate (and history predicts they will be) LG has taken some design cues from its G-series -- rounded corners, and a curved back etc -- along with a very Samsung-esque physical home key (the last edition had capacitive buttons). Of course, this isn't the first LG phone with such a button, or even to share this design. The new F-series we saw at MWC bears more than a casual resemblance to the pic we see above. There's little else to glean from the image other than the obvious, but expect a mid-range specification (with model number VS876) to hit the Verizon web store in the coming weeks.
Leak reveals the Nokia Lumia 630's colorful backside
There have been leaks showing the front of the Nokia Lumia 630 (aka Moneypenny), but a complete view of the Windows Phone 8.1 hardware has been elusive... until now. Frequent tipster @evleaks has posted an apparent press shot revealing the back of the bright-hued device, and it suggests that the 630 will represent a sharp break from the designs of the Lumia 620 and 625. There's no camera key or flash, for a start -- mobile photography fans may want to give this phone a pass. We also see hints of a flatter, more X-like body. There aren't any fresh clues as to when the 630 might launch, although we're not expecting to see it until sometime after the official unveiling of Windows Phone 8.1, which may take place in April.
'All New' HTC One leaks again with a bright gold paint job
Is there anything that hasn't already been leaked about HTC's photography-focused successor to the One? Not much, except that we haven't seen publicity renders quite as detailed as the one just shared by @evleaks. It suggests that the dual-camera handset will be offered in a gold flavor when it arrives on March 25th, alongside the rumored silver and black options. Furthermore, the source -- who has a generally reliable track record -- claims to know how the new phone will be branded. It'll apparently skirt around tricky numerical conventions by adopting a slightly Apple-esque alternative: the "All New HTC One." A name like that should roll right off the tongue, shouldn't it? Update: One of HTC's press and marketing guys has just responded to @evleaks with a big fat "LOL" in regards to the "All New" branding claim. Make of it what you will, but perhaps we could be looking at an "HTC One Two" after all.
Sony Xperia Tablet Z2 leaks hint at KitKat and an even thinner design (update: more shots)
Sony's Xperia Tablet Z may be too old to justify buying for some of you out there, but don't worry -- it looks like a replacement could be just around the corner. Frequent tipster @evleaks has posted both an image and specs of what's reported to be the Xperia Tablet Z2. The 10.1-inch slate would preserve the waterproof design, 6,000mAh battery and cameras of its 2013 ancestor, but with a much faster 2.3GHz Snapdragon 800 processor, 3GB of RAM and an even thinner 6.4mm (0.25in) body. It would also ship with Android 4.4 KitKat, so you may not be pining for an OS upgrade as soon as you open the box. There's no mention of a ship date in the rumors, but Mobile World Congress is just a week away; we wouldn't be shocked if Sony unveils the Z2 in sunny Barcelona. Update: We've since been tipped off to a series of additional leaked images from @gadgetleaks that show a Z2 variant with a white back. We've included one of the pictures below.
Here's a possible sneak peek at the homescreen for HTC's next flagship
The online rumor mill's been working overtime where HTC's upcoming M8 flagship is concerned, with some even going so far as to conjure fake mock-ups of the device. Leave it to @evleaks then to give us our first alleged glimpse of the handset, albeit via the device's homescreen. From what we can see in the image above, it looks as though HTC's given Blinkfeed, its Flipboard-like service, a slight makeover. There's also the presence of onscreen virtual navigation buttons, which gives some weight to the recent gossip we've heard about the M8's build. Beyond that though, it's hard to tell just how much HTC's evolved its Sense UI for the device. But with Mobile World Congress just a few weeks away, we should know the full monty soon enough -- that is unless HTC's cooking up a separate event of its own.
Is this the Samsung Galaxy S5's new tile-based home screen?
As Samsung's Galaxy S5 gets ready to launch, the rumor alert scale has already hit "yellow." The latest from @evleaks shows a possible TouchWiz home screen that would be a sharp U-turn from the current one, if real. It displays information and notifications like Google Now in a tiled format à la Microsoft's Modern/Metro UI -- not unlike the Galaxy Note Pro 12.2's Magazine UX. Naturally, there's no info about how the software would gather up such data, but in any event, the screenshot above could easily be a Samsung test or a fake -- we'll find out in a few short months.
Latest LG phone leak keeps hope alive for keyboard lovers
Smartphones with keyboards are increasingly rare, but LG must see some life left in the category -- @evleaks has just posted a leaked press shot and specs for the Optimus F3Q, a landscape slider reportedly headed to T-Mobile. While the image doesn't do much beyond confirm the five-row keyboard from an abstract image seen last month, the rumored specs suggest that the F3Q won't be much different than its touch-only counterpart. It will supposedly ship with the F3's 4-inch WVGA display, dual-core 1.2GHz Snapdragon, 5-megapixel camera and 2,460mAh battery; it may even run Android 4.1. There's no mention of launch details in the leak, but the modest spec sheet hints that LG's QWERTY handset will get an entry-level price.
LG G Flex for AT&T, T-Mobile shows up in pictures
Just in case you haven't seen enough of LG's limber 6-inch G Flex smartphone, the bowed wonder has appeared in press shots posted by @evleaks. The pictures aren't shocking for a phone we've already had our hands all over and even reviewed as an international model, but after passing through the FCC's database, we suppose this just another step on the way to release. There's no word on a release date or US pricing (the Sprint edition that's surfaced is also missing, but the renders above do show different dates on the phones -- March 17th for AT&T and February 12th for T-Mobile), but we're sure those details will be revealed in due time.
