Samsung's DeX is no longer limited to turning your mobile device into a computer -- it now works with your computer. The expanded version of DeX on the Galaxy Note 10 lets you transfer files (including photos), reply to messages and run mobile apps on your Mac or Windows PC. It's Samsung's rough equivalent to Windows 10's phone integration, just with a unified interface and broader PC operating system support.

The Galaxy Note 10 S Pen is also a wand that controls your phone

Today, Samsung confirmed a poorly kept secret. The Galaxy Note 10 S Pen will offer gesture controls, or "Air Actions." This goes one step further than the Note 9 S Pen, which acts as a remote control. Now, you'll be able to control the Note 10 (and Note 10+) with a wave of the stylus. The S Pen will allow you to activate shortcuts and perform specific actions by drawing shapes above the screen. As you can with the Galaxy Tab S6, you'll be able to swish-and-flick to switch between front- and rear-facing cameras and toggle through camera modes.

Samsung's Galaxy Note 10 doesn't have a headphone jack or Bixby button

Remember those Samsung ads mocking Apple's latest iPhones for not having a headphone jack? Well, it looks like the company is going to have to make some about itself. That's because, as leaks suggested, Samsung's new Galaxy Note 10 won't have one. Instead of a 3.5mm port, the smartphone will use USB-C for audio and basically anything else that requires physical connectivity. While the Note 10 comes with a pair of USB-C earbuds, the lack of a traditional 3.5mm jack means you'll need a dongle if you want to use your own, non-wireless headphones.

Samsung Galaxy Note 10 and Note 10+ hands-on

It's very clear to Samsung who typically buys a Galaxy Note. Usually, this is a person who knows how much RAM and which graphics processor are in their phone. The typical Note owner also loves using a stylus to jot down reminders or sketch on-the-go and appreciates the big screens that are characteristic of the series. In fact, Notes have only gotten larger since the first model with its 5.3-inch display. But with the release of the Note 10, Samsung wants to reach more people, and it's found a way to expand its appeal. For the first time, the Galaxy Note will be available in two sizes -- the Note 10 and the Note 10+.

At a typically lavish event in Brooklyn this afternoon, Samsung is making an announcement that surprises exactly no one: the Galaxy Note 10 is here. Well, almost. Samsung's largest, stylus-enabled flagship device will be available on August 23rd in the US, with pre-orders opening tomorrow. Just as the rumors predicted, Samsung made two sizes of the Galaxy Note 10 this year, but right now we're just focusing on the smaller option. (Details on the big guy can be found here.) [Check out our extensive hands-on of the Galaxy Note 10 and Note10+!]

Samsung has already shown off some new hardware, but today's the day we finally get to see what the company is doing with the Galaxy Note. Are we getting two of them? Almost definitely. Is a 5G model coming? You bet! Will the new S Pen pack some weirdo Bluetooth magic wand tricks? All signs point to yes.

Samsung's second Unpacked event of the year takes place today, and the company hasn't exactly been subtle about what it has in store. It already opened pre-order registrations for an as-yet-unnamed device (almost certainly the Galaxy Note 10). Leaks have pointed towards a 5G version of the next Note and revealed other possible specs for the Note 10. The Korean giant might have more up its sleeve beyond Note 10 news too.

Samsung’s first 7-nanometer EUV processor will power the Galaxy Note 10

Samsung has unveiled the Exynos 9825, the processor that will likely power the Galaxy Note 10 launching later today. It's the first smartphone chip built using 7-nanometer EUV (extreme ultra-violet) silicon manufacturing that Samsung unveiled back in October 2018. The chip is nearly identical to the Exynos 9820, which was built using 8-nanometer LPP tech. The new chip will likely be more powerful and efficient, but Samsung has yet to say by how much.

The Galaxy Note 9 a year later: Still good, but not for everyone

When Samsung unveiled the Note 9 a year ago, I was surprised by how much I liked it. Sure, it didn't bring many fresh features -- mostly just refinements in areas where the Note line already excelled. There was more power than before, longer battery life, a larger display and more built-in storage. Plus, some camera improvements made the Note 9 more capable in low light. These upgrades are pretty much a given with any new smartphone, though.

Few companies revel in spectacle the way Samsung does, and if nothing else, the company's Unpacked event in Brooklyn will be an assault on the senses. Of course, all that spectacle serves a purpose: to get people hyped for its newest flagship smartphone, the Galaxy Note 10. We're getting ready to lug our gear onto the subway and report from Barclays Center live on August 7th, but before we do that, let's take a moment to sift through all the things Samsung could (and should) announce in a few days.

Galaxy Note 10 won't have a headphone jack, according to a hot dongle leak

The leak creep of Samsung's Galaxy Note 10 has now reached the point of dongles that will come with it. Soul-crushing, purchase-rescuing dongles that will ensure your 3.5mm headphones will work with your new productivity-focused phone. Yep, it's the final nod that Samsung, one of the great headphone port hold-outs, is joining the pack with only a USB-C connection to do everything on its next flagship phone.

Samsung to fight falling profits with midrange phones, 'mainstream' 8K

As Samsung expected, its Q2 profit is off from last year's by about 56 percent. An operating profit of $5.6 billion (6.6 trillion Korean won) is no small figure, but obviously not up to par for the electronics giant, and follow a similar result in Q1 of this year. A big reason for the fall is a drop in prices for memory chips, which Samsung is a major supplier of for products like smartphones and servers. It's also negatively affected by weak iPhone sales since it supplies Apple with parts, and is facing slower sales for its own high-end phone models. Last year Samsung was looking toward foldable devices to help turn around the trend, and after a delay it's still expecting the Galaxy Fold to join its Galaxy Note 10 as an "innovative" new product launch. According to the company's report, it's also pushing ahead on 5G.

Samsung has opened up Galaxy Note 10 reservations a couple of weeks ahead of officially revealing the phone at its Unpacked event on August 7th. You can submit your name and contact details to make sure you have early access to pre-orders, and if you do reserve a spot by August 7th, you'll receive $50 credit towards certain devices and accessories.

Galaxy Note 10 image leaks spoil Samsung's party

So much for Samsung maintaining even the slightest bit of secrecy around the Galaxy Note 10 ahead of its August 7th debut. Both Ishan Agarwal (via MySmartPrice) and WinFuture have obtained what look to be official press images for the regular Note 10 and its larger Note+ counterpart (shown above). As you might have suspected, the two phones appear to push the Galaxy S10's nearly-all-screen concept even further. The more rectangular design has virtually no bezel, and the only interruption is a hole-punch camera located at the top center of the display.

The rumors were true -- Samsung has announced that it's holding its second Unpacked event of the year on August 7th at 4PM Eastern in Brooklyn's Barclays Center. The company hasn't said anything about what to expect, but the pen-centric teaser image (above) doesn't leave much to the imagination. The Galaxy Note 10 will clearly be the star of the show, and it's just a matter of pinning down the finer details.

Samsung's Galaxy Note 10 launch reportedly planned for August 7th

While we're waiting for news on the foldable Galaxy phone, Samsung is still planning its usual big event to launch the next Galaxy Note. According to CNET, we should expect the company's annual Unpacked event to take place on August 7th at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. Along with 5G devices and the Galaxy Fold, the device we're expecting to see arrive as the Galaxy Note 10 is supposed to help Samsung strengthen its leadership in premium phones. This is the device that led the way for super-sized smartphones, and it will be interesting to see how it evolves as so many competitors get bigger, and foldable devices eventually take over the size crown. We liked the Galaxy Note 9 when it launched last year, but we weren't thrilled about the version of Android it shipped with. Hopefully any software issues are resolved this time around, and it includes improved support for AI assistants other than Bixby.
