Meghan Trainor announced the nominees for this year's Grammy Awards on Monday night. Beyonce, deservedly, is leading the field with 9 nominations followed closely by Drake, Rhianna and Kanye West who all have 8 apiece. But more surprising is the category for Best New Rap Album for which Chance the Rapper's Coloring Book is nominated. This is the first time that an album available only through streaming services has earned a Grammy nod.

Apparently the Kanye West role-playing game, Kanye Quest 3030, contains an eerie hidden area involving a butterfly and a New Age cult called Ascensionism. We know, it's hard to believe that Kanye has a video game. Anyway, this secret game-within-a-game is weird, but it's certainly not surprising considering that, for years now, Kanye has been dressing like characters from one of the most nonsensical video game franchises of all time, Final Fantasy. We've collected a few of Kanye's standout cosplay attempts in the gallery below. Happy Friday, folks.

Amazon has scored a coup for its new film production arm by signing Oscar-nominated director Spike Lee for his next film, according to a report from the Wrap. Called Chiraq, the project is reportedly set in Chicago and revolves around a the city's gun violence (Chiraq is a derogatory mashup of "Chicago" and "Iraq"). Lee is said to be pursuing Samuel L. Jackson and native Chicagoans Jeremy Piven, Common and Kanye West to star. The deal marks the first big splash for Amazon Original Movies, an Amazon Studios venture aimed at producing films for theatrical release and Prime Instant Video streaming.

  • Kanye West on Steve Jobs' influence and how Beats will help Apple

Bono wasn't the only recording artist making waves and talking about Apple at this year's Cannes Lions event. Kayne West, arguably the most influential rapper in the world today, stopped by to talk about the Internet and his major influences. Some readers will be surprised to learn his biggest influence isn't Jay-Z or any other musical act: it's late Apple co-founder and CEO Steve Jobs. "Steve Jobs, as everyone knows, was my biggest influence. Just seeing the way he fought to make things easier for people. After he passed, I made it my life's mission to do what he did inside of that company. I dream to help raise the palette and raise the taste level of a generation and also be involved with the production and distribution and advertising of that thing everyone's begging for." He also spoke about on the importance of Apple's current Beats deal from a perspective that hasn't been majorly covered yet. We've all read about the gains Apple would make from purchasing Beats' music platform and headphones. West, on the other hand, thinks the move improves Apple's image with the important urban and youth markets. To make his point he draws parallels between Apple buying Beats and the boost in popularity that rival Samsung got when it teamed up with Jay-Z. His argument is that along with the technical aspects of the merger, Apple is gaining Beats music credibility. "There would have been no Beats deal without the Samsung deal [with Jay Z]. It showed the No. 1 company the importance of connecting with culture. The reason I said I didn't like Samsung particularly is because throughout my entire life, because of how my parents raised me, I have to work with the No. 1. I can't work with anyone but Jay Z, because he's No. 1. I can't be with any girl but Kim, because that's the girl whose pictures I look at the most and get turned on by. I'm not going to represent any company but Louis Vuitton, because that's No. 1. ... Samsung is not quite Apple, but it showed that Jimmy [Iovine] and Dre would be able to connect with the No. 1 influencers." Despite his Apple fandom, there's one area where Kanye has issues with the company -- the colors on the iPhone 5c, a move he sees as a lazy cash grab. West laughingly exclaims, "Steve would never have done this!" This a sweet human moment of nerd rage from a sometimes difficult artist. You can watch the entire hour-long discussion, which also features Steve Stoute and Ben Horowitz, below thanks to The STASHED. It's a fascinating look at the future of tech and how popular culture will influence it.

  • Take-Two makes it rain $1 billion more in fiscal 2014

Take-Two reported net revenue of $2.35 billion for fiscal 2014 (the year ending March 31, 2014), a 94 percent growth from its reported revenue of $1.21 billion in 2013. It also reported a net income of $361.7 million, which compares rather favorably to the net loss of $31.2 million it suffered last year. As of the end of fiscal 2014, Take-Two had "cash and cash equivalents of $935.4 million," plenty to make it rain a few times. As for the fourth quarter of fiscal 2014, Take-Two's net revenue was $195.2 million, a 34.8 percent decrease compared to the same quarter last year ($299.5 million). It also reported a net loss of $30.8 million for the quarter, which compares to the net gain of $21.2 million reported in Q4 2013. The publisher's digitally-delivered revenue increased 65 percent year-over-year to $435.1 million on a non-GAAP basis (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles). In its earnings call, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick noted that Grand Theft Auto Online was the "single largest contributor" to the company's digital revenue growth. Take-Two also reported that it has shipped 33 million copies of GTA 5 to date. Looking ahead to the next fiscal year (ending March 31, 2015), Take-Two projects its non-GAAP net revenue to fall between $1.35 billion and $1.45 billion, and anticipates its net revenue between $120 million and $135 million for the next quarter, also on a non-GAAP basis.

  • EMI sues Def Jam Rapstar creators

EMI Music Group has filed a suit against Def Jam Rapstar creators 4mm Games and Terminal Reality, claiming the game contains unlicensed tracks from Kanye West, Lil Wayne, DMX and more, and uses unlicensed compositions from DJ Khaled, MIMS and Daft Punk.According to statements given to The Hollywood Reporter, EMI demanded royalties from the game makers but never received a response. EMI is looking for compensation on 54 songs from Def Jam Rapstar's total tracklist, and with EMI looking for upwards of $150,000 for each "infringement" that total tab is looking mighty steep. In the worst case, that brings us to total of $8.1 million. The karaoke aspect of Def Jam Rapstar, and its online video-sharing capabilities, also make this dispute trickier, since EMI owns the rights to display, publicly perform and distribute these songs. Please excuse us while we try to get Richard a good lawyer in case EMI targets us next.

The bar-laden spectacles that Kanye West popularized have just been reborn, and dare we say, they're harder, better, faster and stronger. YouTube user ch00ftech decided to borrow a few good great ideas while adding in a few twists of his own, resulting in the creation of EL Wire Kanye glasses that actually light up when the beat pulses. There's a deep, deep dive into the technicalities down in the source link, but for the 99 percenters in attendance, the video just below says it all.
