'Sonic the Hedgehog' breaks record for a video game movie debut
The Sonic the Hedgehog movie has come a long, long way from that horrifying initial trailer. Paramount's adaptation just broke the record for a video game movie's three-day opening in the US, pulling in $57 million compared to Detective Pikachu's $54.3 million. Estimates have Sonic raking in $68 million over four days, which could give it one of the best Presidents Day performances of any movie -- and definitely the best for the 2020 holiday weekend. That's not adjusted for inflation, but still no small feat. Remember, Sonic premiered in February (when audiences are smaller, and studios often slot their less promising movies) where Detective Pikachu debuted at the height of the early blockbuster season in May.

'Sonic the Hedgehog' movie delayed to fix nightmare-inducing design
Sorry, Sega fans, you'll need to wait a little longer to see the Sonic the Hedgehog movie. Paramount pushed back the release date three months to give the filmmakers "a little more time to make Sonic just right."
TMNT: Training Lair snapping at Kinect next week

The Xbox 360 game is the culmination of a partnership between Paramount Pictures and Microsoft, not related to Activision as originally reported. Training Lair combines the Kinect's motion-capturing abilities with film assets to promote the upcoming film, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The game launches roughly two and a half weeks before the movie hits theaters on August 8, and will be free to download. [Image @lifelower]

Report: Star Trek game figurehead Brian Miller leaving Paramount
Star Trek is a game mired in technical and design issues. According to Deadline, its most vocal promoter, Paramount senior vice president of worldwide marketing partnerships and licensing Brian Miller, is leaving Paramount. The decision for Miller to vacate his role was mutual, according to the report, so he'll finish out the year before making his exit. Miller has spent the last 14 years working at Paramount and will look to explore personal projects after his time with the company is up. J.J. Abrams, director of the new Star Trek series of films, said he was involved with the game at the outset but backed out early on due to concerns over where the project was headed. Ultimately, J.J. Abrams felt the video game "didn't help" his latest film, Star Trek Into Darkness, and "arguably hurt it." Abrams is currently working with Valve on a few projects, one of which could be a Half-Life or Portal film.

There's around a half-minute's footage of Star Trek: The Video Game in this trailer, but we admit it, we just wanted the excuse to post a video with William Shatner in it. Either way, we reckon you're Gorna enjoy it.

Enterprise-D restoration fundraiser goes live: your chance to revive a slice of Star Trek is here
For sci-fi lovers, it's on. A fan-devised project to restore the Enterprise-D bridge from Star Trek: The Experience is now actively raising cash on Indiegogo with a newly estimated $240,000 target needed to make the dream real. Crowdfunding brings the obligatory perks for larger donations, although they take on a progressively nerdy bent once you get past the t-shirts. It peaks at getting replicas of Captain Kirk's original chair or an LCARS terminal, and you can even get a romantic evening on the deck with "complete privacy until the next morning" -- wink, wink. Outlandish? Maybe, but the project is getting official sponsors and has a shorter-term plan to get Captain Picard's chair ready for display by October. The whole bridge should be ready by late 2013. If you'd wished Paramount had preserved this piece of The Next Generation history for the ages, you now have your solution.
Star Trek fans rescue Enterprise-D bridge, plan to restore it to former glory
A trio of Star Trek: The Next Generation fans have rescued the junked remains of the Enterprise-D bridge from Paramount Pictures, with an eye to restoring it to its former glory. The fibre glass set was built for Star Trek: The Experience, after the original (wooden) set was unsurprisingly destroyed filming Star Trek: Generations. When the group knows how much the project will cost, they'll go to Kickstarter to raise funds, with the hope of exhibiting the set to the public. If you feel you might well-up at the sight of your childhood heroes' home lying in pieces in a parking lot, we advise you not to click on the gallery below, and instead kick in a couple of bucks when their appeal goes live. %Gallery-163436%
Star Trek: The Next Generation Comic-Con trailer tries to make season one (and two) look exciting (video)
Undecided about buying the first season (or two) of the remastered Star Trek: The Next Generation? We understand, but perhaps this pair of trailers will change your mind. The increase in quality is obvious to see, with the recomposed special effects and 7.1 DTS HD even offsetting the pain of re-watching episodes like Shades of Gray and Haven. The second set also includes a reunion talk, interesting just to see how much the stars of the show have changed in the intervening two-and-a-half-decades. You can watch both after the break, but if you decide to hold off until season three, we won't tell anyone.
Report: Ubisoft in talks with Warner Bros., Paramount on Splinter Cell movie deal
Tom Clancy's no stranger to films, so it's not the most surprising news to hear that his Splinter Cell line of video games may be getting the cinematic treatment. Deadline reports that Ubisoft is in talks with both Warner Bros. and Paramount Pictures over the potential for a film tie-in (though talks with the former are said to have fizzled already). It's unclear which game, if any, the film would follow. It's also important to note that deals like this don't always pan out (we're looking at you, Uncharted and BioShock films). And even if the film rights were optioned by a film studio, there's then no guarantee that a script would be written or a film made. What we're trying to say is: take all of this with a Bonneville Salt Flats-sized grain of ... well, you know.[Pictured: Splinter Cell: Blacklist]
Amazon adds 'hundreds' of Paramount movies to Prime, signals a Clear and Present Danger to free time
Amazon is keeping its pace of expanding Amazon Prime's video collection every few months, and today it's Paramount's turn to swell the ranks. Instant Video is getting 'hundreds' of Paramount's movies, including both relatively recent movies like Nacho Libre and Mission: Impossible III as well as back catalog titles like Breakfast at Tiffany's and Clear and Present Danger. As always, the movies are watchable anywhere you've got broadband, and they don't add a premium to the $79 yearly Prime subscription. Just be prepared to explain why you're watching Urban Cowboy on your Kindle Fire at the airport.
