The MMORPG assembly line at Perfect World Entertainment is gearing up to churn out yet another title, this time partnering with WindySoft for a game called Rusty Hearts. While details surrounding the F2P title are sketchy at this point, it looks to be an action MMO with anime-inspired visuals if the various gameplay videos available in the wild are any indication. Perfect World and WindySoft will be officially revealing the game to the masses at this year's E3 convention, with the former looking to localize the game for the American market as well as make further in-roads with gamers in the West. "As Rusty Hearts is an action-based MMORPG, which differs from our existing game portfolio in genre, we believe it will help us extend our market penetration while also bringing new and unique online gaming experiences to our players," said PWE CEO Alan Chen. WindySoft, originally formed in 2002, has been involved in the development and/or publishing of titles ranging from GetAmped, to Katamari Damacy Online, to Cosmic Break. You can check out a Rusty Hearts gameplay video after the break.

The devs at Perfect World Entertainment are busy little bees, and today they've brought us a pair of videos to show off what's new in two of the company's flagship free-to-play titles. First up is Forsaken World's second dev diary video, and in it, PWE marketing director Jon Belliss shows off the fantasy epic's eight playable classes as well as the 14 secondary occupations that make up the job system. Not to be outdone is Perfect World International, and its upcoming Genesis expansion will be featuring the usual expansion suspects such as a new race, new classes, new zones, and more. In addition to all the new content, PWE is throwing some fluff into the mix via a slew of new character dance emotes that amp up the style and complexity of the game's existing moves. All of the game's original races will be able to perform the maneuvers, and many of them will be activated via special clothing sets. Check out the Forsaken World dev diary video and a sneak peek at a new Perfect World International dance after the cut.

  • Forsaken World details floating guild halls

There are guild halls and there are guild halls, and Forsaken World's recently announced command centers are definitely the latter. Perfect World Entertainment has detailed the nifty new floating guild base feature coming to its free-to-play fantasy MMO in a new blog entry on the game's official website. Obtaining (and maintaining) one of the command centers is no easy task, but it looks to be a rewarding one since the facilities will generate income for your guild via entrance fees and will house personal merchants and workshops. Construction materials must be obtained through daily quests and events, and PWE indicates that the guild bases can grow into sprawling social and mercantile hubs given enough time and effort. "The layout of these command centers is vast and multi storied. Your guild's base will have plenty of room to expand and grow. With enough dedication, a command center can be something of a miniature city in its own right," says the blog.

Want to be a Marksman in Perfect World Entertainment's new Forsaken World MMORPG? You're in good company, as PWE's Clifton Chu will be rolling one right beside you. Chu, the game's product manager, is featured in the second video short highlighting Forsaken World classes and the dev team members who love them. "It's no secret that, as a Dwarf, I have no magical abilities," Chu says of his preferred race/class combo. "But that's OK because I'm going to be able to shoot my enemies in the face." Have a look at the Marksmen trailer after the cut, and don't forget to research the class at the official Forsaken World website.

  • Spotlight on the Forsaken World occupation system

Forsaken World, the upcoming free-to-play title from Perfect World Entertainment, has been seeing a pretty big publicity push of late. The most recent official spotlight puts the focus on the game's occupation system, which is somewhat akin to a crafting system while at the same time being quite a bit broader. Yes, the system includes the option for players to craft their own equipment as well as contains side professions such as alchemy -- but it also includes more unusual options, such as becoming a socialite to unlock hidden quests or predicting the future with astrology. According to the spotlight, some occupations are obtained automatically via leveling. Others must be unlocked by spending Job Points, which are earned as players progress along the game's main storyline. While characters have a wide variety of different potential specialties, there's no way to take part in every single occupation, thus forcing players to pick and choose what would work best for each character. If you're looking forward to Forsaken World, take a closer look at the preview, which promises to add another level of variety onto the gameplay.

Perfect World Entertainment may be having a bit of financial difficulty (like everyone else nowadays, it seems), but that isn't stopping it from rolling out the info on its latest free-to-play title called Forsaken World. The four-minute short features an introduction to the game and is narrated by PWE Director of Marketing Jon Belliss. In addition to showing off the requisite combat footage, he also comments on the nature of the game world itself. "Compared to some of our previous titles, Forsaken World is a much darker, western-themed MMO. This means that the artistic style, the playable races, and the game's back story are a very marked departure from all the other Perfect World titles." Belliss outlines the ways in which PWE strives to immerse players in a wholly new world via the visuals, the unique guild economy system, a level cap that is "meant to be achieved," and a new approach to traditional class archetypes. So what exactly is the new stuff, you're probably asking? Meet us on the other side of the break and have a look for yourself.

There's always that moment when starting to play a new game -- just what are you going to choose as a character? Will a neat racial choice capture your eye? Perhaps you're so fond of playing a particular class that no matter what the race is, that will definitely be your choice? Maybe you just love the idea of creating a character that is completely different from who you are in the real world. Well, today we have a short video in which Forsaken World's Project Manager, Shoko Bogen, tells us her reasons for wanting to play a Stoneman Protector. Along with this peek into Forsaken World's enormous tank class, we've also gathered up a bunch of new screens that show off various aspects of the game. Heroes of Three Kingdoms, a new free-to-play MMORPG based on the lore and legends of ancient China, is on display in the latest game trailer from Perfect World Entertainment. The video shows off the game's sumptuous visuals, not to mention a sizable helping of its 18 classes (including the ever-intriguing Ringblade). Also of note is the introduction of a new race, the Miao, nomadic barbarian warriors who live off the land in the southwestern reaches of the Yizhou province. The trailer is also heavy on in-game combat footage, showing a number of classes in action across varying locales, as well as what looks to be cinematics centering on the Battle of Redcliff. You can view the trailer after the jump, and don't forget to sign up for beta on the game's official website.

  • Battle of the Immortals launches an expansion teaser

There's something to be said for verisimilitude. Despite the fact that we've all accepted limitations in just how much a game can model at any given time, it's nice to be able to break things when you unleash whatever horrible ultimate spell your character of choice is packing. Battle of the Immortals recognizes this, and that's why one of the big features in their new teaser trailer is the addition of destructible environments to the game. While the game's first major expansion update is ramping up for release, this trailer is for an addition not slated for arrival until spring of 2011. It's a bit of a wait, but the trailer already looks detailed and interesting, promising several graphical and environmental upgrades for the game. Take a look past the cut for the full trailer, and keep your eyes peeled for more news on the updates for Battle of the Immortals, as they seem to be coming fast and furious.

Perfect World Entertainment is enjoying the continuing success of Battle of the Immortals, and the development team is ready to give fans more to explore. The game's first expansion is coming, and even though there's no date announced yet, PWE promises "more and more details" in the next few weeks. Our first peek is of the new Mount Olympus high-level map. It will bring new monsters and bosses as well as a welcome update for players: coin drops. One of the strengths of BoI is that the dev team is willing to listen and respond to player concerns and complaints, and the lack of coin drops from mobs was definitely a concern. As a result of that feedback, mobs in the Mount Olympus zone will drop coins in addition to regular loot. All of the current preview details can be seen on the Battle of the Immortals site.

Potter, Product Manager. "The legend [of the Battle of Red Cliff] is one that resonates throughout history -- Heroes of Three Kingdoms brings to life one of the most turbulent periods in history." The folks at Perfect World Entertainment have been busy at E3 this week. They're showcasing several of their new titles, including the increasingly popular Battle of the Immortals. They didn't stop with titles we already know, however. PWE has also introduced a brand-new game. Swordsman Online is the working title of this newest venture, and we got the first details just a few days ago. Today brings more information in the form of a teaser trailer that gives a nice overview of the feel and style of Swordsman Online. PWE CEO Dr. Alan Chen is very optimistic about what this will bring to the free-to-play market: "Swordsman Online highlights our commitment to constantly push the industry envelope and what it means to be a free-to-play game. Players should never have to settle or compromise on game quality regardless of business model and we want players to expect more from their MMOs." Want to see for yourself? Follow along after the jump for a first look at Swordsman Online.

We spend our time stomping around in MMOs wearing (or coveting) armor that someone dreamed up, but sadly we don't often get a chance to hear about the time and effort that went into creating these interesting bits of art. That's why we are particularly intrigued by the new series called BoI Blueprints from the crew over at Perfect World Entertainment. This time we're treated to a quick Q&A with Liao "Fruit" Shuiguo, the Lead Art Designer on the Battle of the Immortals Development Team, who gives us a bit of an insight into how one of the sets -- the above pictured Soul Gear Prometheus set -- was made. For those who have always been curious about just what goes into making armor sets, then you'll want to pop by the Battle of the Immortals site and give this interview a read. While it's a small starting salvo, we're hopeful that the BoI team will dig in and bring us many more tasty developer interviews in the future. That said, more videos with sneak peeks like the one we've got after the break of the animated Soul Gear Prometheus set wouldn't hurt, either.

  • Battle of the Immortals adds fourth server

    05.19.2010

Battle of the Immortals, the newest free-to-play from Perfect World Entertainment, has seen great success in the two weeks since launch. The team at PWE received mixed reviews from the open beta, but gained quite a bit of player appreciation by listening to that feedback and making quick changes, a move that helped them retain a fair amount of players and gain many new ones. That willingness to work with their fans combined with a game with improving reviews has earned a larger player base than the Battle of the Immortals team counted on, and they're moving to accommodate those players by launching yet another server. Jonathan Belliss, PWE's product manager, announced the Poseidon server yesterday: "Player response has been tremendous and within two weeks since open beta started, we are already launching our fourth server, Poseidon. Aptly named after the Greek god of the sea, the Poseidon server will help meet the flood of players." The Poseidon server is located in the US East Coast -- set to GMT -4 -- and comes complete with a few handy bug fixes, so be sure to check them out.
