Igor Bonifacic01.27.2021EA is bringing 'Skate' back
Yes, after years of rumors (not to mention near-constant fan demand), it’s finally happening: there’s a new Skate game in the works. There’s nothing to show at this stage (you’re looking at Skate 3 above). It’s “really early,” as the team explains.
Jon Fingas06.18.2020Microsoft's Xbox, Xbox 360 backward compatibility list ends here
Now that Microsoft has unveiled its Project Scarlett Xbox gaming ambitions, there's some good news and some bad news about backward compatibility. The good news is that games from four generations of Xbox will be playable on the new hardware. Even better news is that a pretty sweet list of titles are being added to the program today. The bad news is that the program, which launched during E3 in 2015, is coming to an end for original Xbox and Xbox 360 games.
Richard Lawler06.10.2019EA just switched 'Skate 3' servers back on
When a developer or publisher kills a game's online services, it's usually an indication that game is in the twilight years of its life. For some games it's a coup de grâce. However, it looks like EA's Skate 3 might just be an exception to the rule. A number of sources are reporting the game's servers have been inexplicably resurrected -- just in time for E3.
Katrina Filippidis06.06.2018‘Session’ doesn’t care about your pro-skater high scores
There hasn't really been a good skateboarding game since Skate 3 in 2010. Don't even try to mention Tony Hawk 5, either: that game was awful. Session, an upcoming skateboarding simulation game by Crea-ture Studios, aims to change that with a neat-looking dual-stick title that focuses on using physics to pull off cool, realistic tricks. If funded, Session will be available for Xbox One and Steam — sorry PS4 fans, this one isn't for you.
Rob LeFebvre11.24.2017OlliOlli setting up sick trick line to 2014
OlliOlli, the pixelated, Vita-exclusive skateboarder set in the hilliest town we've ever seen, has bailed from its planned November launch. Developer Roll 7 Games explained in a blog post that the delay stemmed from an issue that would have allowed players to submit multiple scores to the Daily Grind mode, a feature meant to provide one-and-done attempts at leaderboard fame. Now that a few extra layers of wax have smoothed out the issue, OlliOlli has been resubmitted to Sony for final quality assurance. Roll 7 will share a new launch date "as soon as possible."
Thomas Schulenberg11.30.2013ZTE confirms the Score M has a backdoor, hopes to patch up soon
Who knew that owning a ZTE Score M would mean living life on the edge? ZTE has confirmed that the MetroPCS phone has a backdoor vulnerability which could let a less-than-scrupulous hacker get root-level control over the Android 2.3 phone -- and because it's a unique app baked into the firmware, the login credentials won't change as long as the exploit survives. Other ZTE phones, like the Skate, supposedly face the same hole as well. The company says it should have a patch ready to push over the air in the "very near future," but it hasn't said why the app existed in the first place. Either way, if you currently pocket the Score M or one of ZTE's other recent Android devices, we'd keep watch for any suspicious goings-on until a fix is in place.
Jon Fingas05.18.2012Tony Hawk says Ride was 'a bit rushed,' still thinks critics didn't give his board a chance
Even after all this time, Tony Hawk's stance is firm regarding the poorly received Shred and Ride games. He thinks critics made up their mind before giving the games and associated peripheral an honest chance -- even in the case of Ride, which he admits "was a bit rushed" due to time spent prototyping the board.
David Hinkle03.08.2012ZTE Skate launches worldwide, attempts to stick landing in the US
The ZTE Skate -- spiritual successor to the Blade and current flagship -- is pushing on with its global roll-out and it looks like it may reach the US. Now on sale in Hong Kong, Brazil and Spain, the Skate is rolling down the French Alps and into France and the UK, where the Orange-branded Monte Carlo (a Skate in phone network clothing) is already available. With a different ZTE device set to arrive on Cricket soon, the electronics giant also intends to bring this 4.3-inch phone to the US in the near future, though there's nothing concrete on dates and prices just yet. According to ZTE's executive VP He Shiyou, the company is set to launch "a total of 30 smartphone models" by the end of the year. We fear the company may run out of flat-shaped names before the end of November. Head on over to our Chinese site for some hands-on shots.
Mat Smith09.24.2011ZTE Skate coasting into UK retailers... in September
Oh, now it's on. Not too long ago, we learned the ZTE Skate Monte Carlo would be "coming soon" to Orange in the UK. While the citrus-flavored network has yet to pin down an actual release date -- or price -- Clove Technology, a mobile-centric reseller based in England, is telling its customers to expect a September 19th arrival and £250 price tag (subject to change, anyway). Naturally, the announcement of an actual, honest-to-goodness Skate falls in line with ZTE's recent announcement that it would begin selling its hardware -- replete with ZTE badging -- directly to UK consumers. If you've got the gamblin' spirit and are willing to put money on Clove, the pre-order madness has already begun. So, ZTE, who's claiming the coveted "First!" dibs?
Zachary Lutz07.20.2011ZTE Amigo, Blade, and Skate hands-on
ZTE outed several new sets -- and a tablet -- at MWC 2011, so we went to grab some specs and pics of the Blade, Skate, and the Amigo (from left to right). The ZTE Skate is the top of the line product in this group with Android 2.3 -- though, the placard at the stand has been blanked out -- triple-band GSM, HSPA in 1900 / 2100Mhz range, a 4.3-inch WVGA capacitive display, 5 megapixel cam, and likely the smallest keyboard we've ever seen, seriously, have a peek at the gallery. The Blade, which as our favorite in the group, runs Android 2.2, is downgraded to a 3 megapixel camera, a 3.5-inch display, quad-band GSM and 900 / 2100Mhz HSPA. The Amigo -- what may be the lowliest as far as numbers are concerned -- still has decent specs such as a 3.2-inch display, triple band GSM, 1900 / 2100 HSPA, and a side-sliding QWERTY keypad. The Blade and Skate both have great build quality, the screens are really bright and easily seen, the Amigo appears a bit more washed out and the housing build quality feels very cheap. The Skate is definitely the winner in the bells and whistles category, but unless you can swap out the onscreen keyboard it would definitely get a pass -- and again, check out Joanna's finger modeling in the gallery for proof. Enjoy the giant glossy gallery. %Gallery-116756%
Sean Cooper02.15.2011ZTE Skate coming near you later this year with Android 2.3, 4.3-inch goodness
For most of us, ZTE's only known for its budget Android devices in the cellphone market, but this ever-expanding company's aiming to change its image with a slightly more powerful flagship device come May. Dubbed the Skate, this Android 2.3 smartphone sports a generous 4.3-inch display (although no screen type or resolution is specified here), and is powered by an unnamed 800MHz processor plus a soon-obsolete Adreno 200 GPU. There's also a 5 megapixel camera with LED flash on the back, along with the usual Bluetooth, A-GPS, and WiFi bundle. Sadly, the listed cellular frequencies indicate that the Skate won't be heading to the US any time soon, which is rather ironic given ZTE's desire to make it big in the North American consumer market this year. On the flip side, maybe the Chinese giant's got some surprises for us, and we like surprises. Press release after the break.
Richard Lai02.15.2011Dead Space's Isaac Clarke playable in Skate 3
Got Skate 3? Want to bust kickflips as everyone's favorite outer space engineer, Isaac Clarke? By inputting the code "deadspacetoo" into the Cheats area under the Extras section, you'll unlock the Dead Space protagonist for use in Free Play mode. Who knew he could be so nimble in that outfit? Keen observers may notice Clarke riding on a futuristic board. That's because, by inputting the code, you'll also gain the new deck. Sorry, it's non-transferable between skaters -- we tried.
David Hinkle05.22.2010Review: Skate 3
Skate 3 has been touted as a social experience ever since it was announced, encouraging players to "team up" and "throw down," all in the name of being the best skateboard crew around. It's a new focus for the series, but if you're going to justify your sequel with a single feature, that feature had better work well. %Gallery-77563%
David Hinkle05.11.2010Skate 3: Good times with product placement
Self-identification through product choice is a mainstay of the skateboarding scene, from t-shirts to shoes to skate decks to the soundtracks on skate videos. It's all part of the culture, so it's only fitting that a skateboarding game – say, Skate 3 – shares in that. To celebrate this common thread, let's play spot the product placement after the break!
Mike Schramm05.07.2010Skate 3's first TV spot borrows inspiration from Middle-Earth
In a commercial for a skateboarding game, you might think that the folks featured wouldn't draw aesthetic inspiration from warring factions in a Tolkien story, but that's exactly what Skate 3's first TV advert brought to our minds this morning. Sure, there's a bit of gameplay video thrown in, but most of it centers on the much talked about online friend system by way of uniting skateboarders, apparently under an umbrella of brutality. With a demo already available and the game's May 11 release date fast approaching, we're not sure you need much more to get you on board for Skate 3, but we'd suggest checking out the commercial just to see what happens at the end. Now you have to watch! Ha!%Gallery-77563%
