Surface Earbuds suffer a major limitation for solo bud wearers
Microsoft's Surface Earbuds are great, but solo bud wearers might be annoyed by one limitation.
Surface Earbuds and Headphones 2 review: Comfort is king
The Surface Earbuds and Headphones 2 prove that Microsoft has finally found its audio niche. It's focusing on comfort and usability in very smart ways.
Engadget Podcast: Microsoft's Surface bonanza!
In this episode of the Engadget Podcast, Cherlynn and Devindra team up with Gizmodo's Alex Cranz to chat about all of Microsoft's new Surface hardware.
Microsoft's new Surface notebooks are a grab bag of bad decisions
We also got a new Surface Book at last, alongside an updated Surface Go and Surface Headphones 2. It’s Surface Palooza -- and I’m here for it. Jeez, Microsoft. Microsoft also unveiled the long-awaited Surface Book 3 this week.
Surface Earbuds finally arrive on May 12th for $199
Microsoft's true wireless earbuds are finally going on sale on May 12th after being announced in October. The good news is they will cost $199 instead of the $249 that the company initially said.
Microsoft delays Surface Earbuds until spring 2020
Bad news if you were looking to get your hands on (or gift) Microsoft's surprisingly comfortable Surface Earbuds this holiday season: they won't be available until the spring. Panos Panay, Microsoft's chief product officer, said the company needs a little more time "to get all the details right."
Surface Earbuds look weird, but they feel great
I've been on the hunt for comfortable earphones for years, and Microsoft's new Surface Earbuds might just be the ones I'm looking for. Microsoft, alongside Amazon, which unveiled the Echo Buds last week, is joining the truly wireless earbud game. So far, I'm more intrigued by the Surface Earbuds, which surprisingly don't stick into my ear canal the way a lot of other buds do. That's good for people suffering from cerumen impaction (or earwax buildup, for those of you who are less squeamish).
Here's everything Microsoft announced at its Surface event
Microsoft held its annual Surface event today, but you definitely couldn't call it a by-the-numbers presentation. The tech veteran unveiled a flood of new devices, and updates to its existing Surface Laptop and Surface Pro lines were really just the start. It also introduced its first ARM-powered Surface Pro, true wireless smart earbuds and not one but two dual-screen devices -- including its first phone in years.
Microsoft previews transcription and expanded stylus support for Office
As with any Microsoft product launch, the company spent a good portion of its fall hardware event talking about how Office 365 integrates with its new devices. While those enhancements didn't take centerstage, Microsoft has detailed them in a separate blog post the company posted to its website.
What we hope to see at Microsoft’s Surface event
Like clockwork, Microsoft is gearing up to announce its latest batch of Surface devices tomorrow. We've already gotten a preview of some hardware, thanks to a recent leak: it looks like there's a new Surface Pro, a sleeker ARM-based Surface and a new Surface Laptop on the way. But really, none of that is really surprising, since they're all due for a refresh. What else could Microsoft have in store? Well here are a few less obvious things we'd like to see.
Microsoft may respond to AirPods with its own smart earbuds
Microsoft's personal audio efforts might not stop with the Surface Headphones. Thurrott sources said that the company is developing a pair of Surface-branded earbuds codenamed Morrison (the Headphones, for context, were nicknamed Joplin). It's not clear if they'd do anything differently than the existing over-ears or even whether or not there would be a cable, but it wouldn't be unreasonable to expect an all-wireless design that counters Apple's AirPods, Samsung's Galaxy Buds and similarly trendy choices.
