We've been wondering about Dreams for a while now. First announced in 2015 as a trippy, user-controlled kind of world-creating game, Dreams is the new title from LittleBigPlanet studio Media Molecule and it's due to hit PlayStation 4 in 2018. The release date is new -- Media Molecule has been remarkably silent about Dreams over the past few years, but the studio revealed its launch window tonight during The Game Awards.

As a great bonus, you'll be able to get a friends pass free trial when it launches, giving you a way to play the whole game even with a pal who hasn't purchased it.

The next, long-awaited entry in the Soul Calibur franchise is on its way. Soul Calibur VI is scheduled to land on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC in 2018, Bandai Namco announced tonight during The Game Awards. The new fighting game is all about that fancy swordplay, and the debut trailer showcases some potential new mechanics, as weapons power up in different ways throughout the fight.

Fortnite: Battle Royale may have caught some flak from the makers of PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds, but that didn't stop it from becoming an instant hit. To build on that success (and steal some of PUBG's thunder, ahead of its arrival on Xbox One), the free-to-play title is adding an insane new game mode. Instead of a 100 player free-for-all, it will be two squads of 50 scrapping it out till one team is left standing. The free mode is available until December 17th on PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Mac.

Campo Santo, the independent studio behind Firewatch, is working on a new game called In the Valley of Gods. It's a first-person adventure set in the 1920s that takes players through the abandoned, ancient deserts of Egypt. Here's how Campo Santo describes it: "You play as an explorer and filmmaker who, along with your old partner, has traveled to the middle of the desert in the hopes of making a seemingly-impossible discovery and an incredible film."

The Game Awards, the industry's equivalent to the Oscars or Tony's, seeks to commemorate the year's best titles -- and boy, what a year 2017 has been. By our April roundup, we'd already seen many of the titles on this year's ballot. This year's awards show, the fourth annual, will be livestreamed on December 7th.

The Game Awards, created in 2014 and produced by Geoff Keighley, is like the gaming equivalent of the Emmys or Oscars. The show airs live from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on December 7th, and you can stream it on more than 16 different gaming and digital platforms. Better yet, you'll be able to vote for your favorite games in "select categories" using Facebook Messenger, Google Search and Twitter DM starting November 14th. Engadget is one of the voting publications this year, and we'll have the livestream posted for you, too.

After countless Black Friday 4K TV deals, it seems YouTube is looking to christen a lot of shiny new 4K displays. From today YouTube users will be able to stream standard and 360-degree video content in 4K. This could have huge significance for YouTube's position in the live stream space. While popular, the video behemoth's main streaming competitor, Twitch, currently lacks the bandwidth to support 4K streaming.

The Game Awards show has made it a point to recognize more than just the usual blockbuster hits, and it looks like that will remain true when the 2016 ceremony takes place on December 1st. Geoff Keighley's outfit has unveiled its nominees for this year, and there's a healthy mix of triple-A titles and indies. It won't shock you to hear that big names like Battlefield 1, Doom, Overwatch, Titanfall 2 and Uncharted 4 are up for multiple awards, of course. However, smaller projects like Inside (up for game of the year), Hyper Light Drifter and Firewatch make up a large chunk of the selections.

Twitter is already a hotbed of discussion during awards shows, and now it's ready to broadcast one of those shows -- if not necessarily the one you expect. The social network has reached a deal to stream The Game Awards when they kick off December 1st at 8:30PM Eastern. You can watch the whole of Geoff Keighley's hybrid of ceremony and game premieres through either Twitter's website or its official mobile apps, whether or not you're logged in. It's an easy fit when TGA caters to a tech-savvy audience that already offers running commentary on Twitter, but you no longer have to juggle apps or websites to have your say.

We got a chance to go hands on with Mario Maker at E3 this past June and it was pretty awesome even if it felt a little bit, well, safe. New footage that premiered at tonight's The Game Awards in Las Vegas blew our previous conceptions out of the water, though. From the looks of the video below, you can alter levels on-the-fly in ways we didn't previously know were possible. We're talking creating a platform to land on mid-jump and turning otherwise fatal bullet cannons into coin-spewing fountains. Not crazy enough? How about swapping in art styles from the past 30 years of the Italian plumber's career as you see fit while running through what starts as level 1-1 from Super Mario Bros. in real-time? Exactly. Hit the jump for a peek at the madness.
