Warhammer 40k: Eternal Crusade discusses Razer Comms integration
Warhammer 40k: Eternal Crusade is positioning itself to be a blend of MMO elements with third-person shooter elements, and like its source material that means everyone's trying to shoot everyone else. So you're going to need a way to communicate with other players, and if typing out "please help me shoot these guys" is going to take too much time, you'll need a voice chat solution. The development team behind the game has taken this fact to heart, and rather than forcing players to rely on a third-party solution, it's working on integrating the Razer Comms system into the game directly. This also includes filters to help you fully immerse yourself in the setting, tying the game's normal sound and voice chat together. If that sounds like something you'd like to see in action, take a look at the full announcement for more explanation of the integration and what it offers the players.
Should Blizzard revamp in-game voice chat to go with the group finder?
Defective of Ysera-US emailed me recently with an interesting question -- did I think Blizzard should revamp the in-game voice chat to accompany their new Group Finder, coming in Warlords of Draenor? Yes, believe it or not there is an in-game voice chat, added in patch 2.2 to the resounding derision of the playerbase. Back in 2011 WoW Insider surveyed players, and found that only 4% of players use it. And having been in that 4% myself, they should stop. In a world where so many options exist, the WoW in-game voice chat really is one of the worst, for WoW at least. And Blizzard know, quite apart from jokingly derisive tweets from devs, that it's bad. They even said, again in 2011, that the next time they revisited it they wanted it to be a big change, similar to how LFG revolutionized dungeons.
PS4, Xbox One party chat supports up to eight party people [update]
You can gab and gossip with up to seven pals using PS4 voice chat, but the real test will be deciding which of your 2000 bestest buddies to invite to the party on November 15. PlayStation Social Media Manager Sid Shuman revealed the figure on the PS Blog, saying, "Party Voice Chat will support up to 8 players on PS4, like PS Vita." On the subject of Vita, Sony Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida tweeted recently that party chat will work between Vita and PS4. So that's cross-platform, cross-game chat - not too shabby, really. Update: A Microsoft spokesperson told Game Informer the Xbox One also supports up to eight people in party chat. So, final score: Xbox One 8-8 PlayStation 4.
