Bumble, the dating app from former Tinder co-founder Whitney Wolfe where women make the first move, has launched a new service that will allow users to find a friend as easily as they find romance. The new BFF mode works just like the existing dating UI -- save that potential love-interests are replaced with potential friends of the same sex as the user. If both parties swipe right, then they can initiate a conversation with each other. The system will differentiate conversations by color: green for your new bestie, yellow for your new hot date. Bumble has also confirmed to Engadget that "for Bumble BFF, women see women and men see men. We approach every new product feature with safety in mind and we did not want people gamifying the system."

  • Crapgadget: BFF Gemz dilute the notion of a best friend (video)

If you want a charm that hangs 'round your neck and glows whenever your friend Missy tells you she loves Justin Bieber, then eMotion Inc has the gadget for you. The BFF Gemz sends pre-written coded messages to pals up to 450 feet away, which they can access the next time they're at a computer. You can add up to eight best friends (the BFF currency devalued to Weimar proportions) and four more if you buy some GPA: Girl Power Average points. It's not entirely private: Mom and Pop will get a weekly email, listing who you're messaging, so if you swap notes with that gal from the wrong end of town you'd better stick to paper airplanes. Those curious to see what the kids might be clamoring for instead of a new cellphone, check out the video after the break.

DC Universe Online and SOE want to know who you would choose as your DCUO "BFF". BFF in this particular case can refer to either Best Friend Forever or Best Foe Forever, so there's room for those characters you love to hate too: The DCUO BFF Promotion lets eligible participants submit a video of up to 30 seconds to explain why they would like to virtually meet, fight and become BFFs with their chosen character in-game. There's a short movie on the front page of the DCUO official site encouraging folks to get into character for their entries, though it also warns that tight spandex might be taking things a step too far. Our take? If you can pull it off, go for it!Entries can be made through MySpace, or in person at the SOE booth at San Diego Comic-Con, with judging duty to be performed by the DCUO MySpace Friends. The two winners will score a "Lex Luthor in Power Armor" poster, signed by the DCUO dev team and Jim Lee. If this news has you getting ready to dust off your favorite superhero outfit and enter, make sure the submission is in before the competition closes on the 15th of August at 1:59AM PT.

  • A friend for life, or pet of the week?

00hshiny is asking a question about what Hunter pet to get for raiding on WoW Ladies, but something even more interesting struck me about her situation: she's made it all the way to 67 with a pet she's had since the beginning.I know it happens (my friend went all the way with his first pet), but I've leveled one Hunter and am now working on a second, and I can't imagine leveling all the way up with just one pet-- it would get too boring after a while! Hunters, have you done it?Of course you'd need to train other pets at some point, just to get more skills. And it's very common for Hunters to reach 70, and then get different pets for different activities-- a PvP pet vs. a soloing or raiding pet. But I wonder exactly how many pets Hunters actually play with (as in, fight with enough to reach the highest loyalty levels). BRK apparently changes pets all the time, but what about the rest of you Hunters? How many pets have you had, in terms of actually using, not just taming for learning skills, from 1-70?%Poll-3004%
