Nikon readies entry-level DSLR with articulating display for April 14th launch? (updated with spyshots!)
Word on the prismatic, hinged mirror streets of camera-land suggest that NIkon is preparing to launch "new products" for Spring. Rightful speculation made after a press invite was purportedly sent to a variety of photog publications announcing an April 14th launch event. Expectations vary widely as to what will be announced including a new entry-level D60-followup with 720p video on up to a D400 with 16 megapixel Sony CMOS. We even have the dubious photo above showing a Nikon with articulating display taken by a jockey riding a humor forum who claims to have been traveling "somewhere in Eastern Europe and stumbled across a commercial shoot for Nikon." Sure, that's believable. Fortunately, we're just over a week away from knowing for sure.Update: Well, well, what's this... we just received a big batch of spy shots that look authentic enough and clearly show what looks like a low-end Nikon with articulating display.Update 2: We just received a few more pictures as well as the detailed backstory to this Nikon with swiveling display (a first for Nikon). Seems Kevin, a film student, was smitten by the Arriflex 235 435 motion picture camera used to film the commercial in Dubrovnik, Croatia yesterday. It wasn't until later, when he was reviewing the pics from the day, that he realized "that the subject of the commercial was the yet to be announced Nikon 500(0?)." Sharp adds Freeview-tuning AQUOS LC-46D65E to UK range
Don't ever say Sharp ignored you, UK, because the AQUOS LC-46D65E is a fine, fine offering. The 46-inch addition to the outfit's D65 family arrives with a 20,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio, 450 nits of brightness, a six-millisecond response time, 176-degree viewing angles and a full 1080p panel. You'll also find a DVB (Freeview) tuner, three HDMI inputs and two SCART sockets, not to mention a USB terminal for loading up pictures and tunes. Best of all, it's available as we speak in pound country for around £714.99 ($1,067) on the street.
Sharp's AQUOS D65 / D85 series LCD HDTVs head to Canada
Good news, Canada! Sharp's AQUOS D65 and D85 LCD HDTVs (those ones uncovered at CEDIA) are headed your way. Starting this month, the 42-, 46- and 52-inch sets will begin landing on Canadian floors, bringing with 'em 120Hz technology, a 4-millisecond response time, AQUOS LINK, five HDMI 1.3 inputs, a 1080p panel and an RS-232C input for custom installs. The whole lot ranges from $1,399.99 (LC-42D65U) to $2,499.99 (LC-52D85U), so start saving those bucks.
