Paul McCartney is about to have much more of a presence on Netflix than the occasional documentary or Beatles homage. Netflix and Gaumont are producing an animated movie based on McCartney's children's adventure novel High in the Clouds, which was also written by Philip Ardagh and Geoff Dunbar. The book follows the tale of a teenage squirrel who lands in a group of rebels after he inadvertently makes enemies with a tyrannical owl.

Fox has posted the first trailer for the video game action-comedy Free Guy, and it appears ready to answer a lingering question: what if the trivial non-player characters in your favorite shooter realized they were in a game? The clip shows actor, producer and new wireless magnate Ryan Reynolds as a blissfully oblivious NPC who fulfills his background role in a Grand Theft Auto-style game until he questions his purpose and, naturally, becomes a hero that saves his virtual world.

The cast for the Uncharted movie appears to be solidifying, however slowly. Variety understands that Mark Wahlberg is in "final talks" to co-star as Victor "Sully" Sullivan, the grizzled treasure hunter that serves as Nathan Drake's mentor. It'll represent a bit of a shock for people who expect a decidedly older and more gregarious character, but the current take on the movie is an origin story -- it's not too much of a shock that Sully would have fewer gray hairs.

Paramount's original trailer for the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog movie was... really something, wasn't it? The under-stylized body, the odd soundtrack choice, the teeth. Such was the Sonic fandom's collective horror that director Jeff Fowler swiftly announced the movie would be put on pause until the studio got the design right. Now, they think they've nailed it.

Johnny Cash's powerful voice narrates his life in YouTube's 'The Gift'

"I was a bag of bones. I looked like walking death, and I knew it." By now the trials, and redemption, of Johnny Cash are well documented. Whether it's 2005's Walk The Line or, most recently, Ken Burns' Country Music, it's not hard to find a detailed account of the career of the Man in Black. What many of them don't offer though is Cash's own perspective on his life -- both the highs and the lows. With Emmy-winning director Thom Zimny's The Gift: The Journey of Johnny Cash, we get just that. And the impact is more haunting and inspiring than any other time these stories have been told.

A trailer for the feature-length documentary, which actor Chiwetel Ejiofor narrates, centers on a family of these astonishing creatures. The Elephant Queen follows the herd's search for a new home, led by matriarch Athena.

Want to see how Michael Bay's approach to blockbuster movies works in the streaming world? You're about to find out. Netflix has announced that Bay's 6 Underground will reach the service on December 13th -- and if the trailer is any indication, the director hasn't strayed far from his formula. Ryan Reynolds stars as a ghost operative who joins a misfit group taking on "truly evil people." In Bay's world, that means over-the-top set pieces (magnetic weapons, anyone?), fast camera cuts and explosions... lots of explosions.

Netflix's 'Between Two Ferns' trailer looks as ridiculous as you'd expect

Netflix has finally offered a peek at Between Two Ferns: The Movie just days before its September 20th premiere, and there's little doubt that Zack Galifianakis and crew are upping the ante for their magnum opus. The trailer starts with a Matthew McConaughey interview that goes... badly, and escalates from there. Zack is forced to go on the road and conduct interviews to mend his reputation, and the result is a string of absurd celebrity chats that makes even the most star-studded Netflix original seem low-rent by comparison.

At last, Netflix's Breaking Bad movie has a name -- and importantly, a release date. The service has released a teaser revealing that El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie will premiere on October 11th, 2019. The clip (which revolves around a questioning with Skinny Pete) unsurprisingly doesn't say much, but does confirm that the plot will revolve around Jesse Pinkman escaping captivity. Authorities weren't exactly kind to him, to put it mildly.

Yes, you read that correctly. About 16 years after the last movie in the series, Warner Bros. has confirmed work on a fourth movie in The Matrix universe. And it doesn't appear to be a spinoff -- Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss will star in the picture. Only one of the Wachowski sisters (Lana) is involved, but she'll direct, co-write and co-produce.

Brave Father Online is a gem of a movie. It's charming, funny and has plenty to say about empathy, the value of community and why you should forge deeper connections with loved ones. And even though much of the action takes place inside a video game, the film's giant beating heart speaks volumes about the careful craft involved its creation.

The Matrix is coming back to theaters to (belatedly) mark its 20th anniversary, and you might have a reason to watch even if you're not overwhelmed with nostalgia. The sci-fi classic will start a one-week run on August 30th at AMC's Dolby Cinemas across the US in its fully modernized form, complete with a Dolby Vision picture and Dolby Atmos audio. You've had access to those at home, but this is the first time you can experience the movie that way on the big screen -- those bullet-dodging scenes should be that much more immersive.

'The Irishman' trailer shows Scorsese and Netflix chasing critical glory

If there was any doubt that Netflix was hunting for awards with Martin Scorsese's The Irishman, it just got erased. The streaming service has released a teaser (really, a first trailer) for the mob epic, and it's clear the movie is a callback to Scorsese classics like Goodfellas and Casino in more ways than one. There's the premise, for a start -- it shows the evolution of the Mafia over decades through the perspective of the hitman who claimed to have killed Jimmy Hoffa. However, it's the acting talent that's on clearest display here.

Warner Bros. bought the movie rights to Space Invaders years ago, and now it looks ready to do something with the classic alien-blasting franchise. Deadline reports that Warner's New Line Cinema is advancing production on the film, with Mortal Kombat reboot writer Greg Russo handling the script. There's no release window yet, although the lack of detail suggests you'll be waiting a while.

Filming is set to start soon on the upcoming Mortal Kombat reboot, which is in pre-production in Australia under the wing of producer James Wan. Tidbits about what's in store are starting to emerge, such as the casting of The Raid star Joe Taslim as series lynchpin Sub-Zero. The latest news on the movie comes from writer Greg Russo, who said the production team is gunning for an R rating. And yes, it'll include proper fatalities.

There's more Star Trek available for streaming -- although it might not be on the service you were expecting to use. Amazon is adding five pre-Abrams Star Trek movies to Prime Video in the US on July 31st. Two of them come from the cast of the original series (Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home and Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country), while the rest are from the Next Generation crew (First Contact, Insurrection and Nemesis). It could be a good way to brush up on Jean-Luc Picard's history ahead of his new streaming series.

Amazon is making good on a plan to offer Netflix-style theatrical releases for movies before they reach Prime Video. The internet giant now plans to release one of its Sundance picks, the political thriller The Report, in theaters on September 27th -- two weeks before it starts streaming on October 11th. The approach not only ensures that it's a contender for the Oscars and other big awards, but ensures that people will see the movie while it's still fresh.
