Amazon’s own shopping holiday — Prime Day — will still go ahead this year, but it won’t be for a while, the company announced on Tuesday. As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to affect operations worldwide, a spokesperson confirmed “we’ll be holding Prime Day later than usual,” while promising to share “more details soon.” Prime Day 2019 ran for two days from July 15th, and on July 16th the year before.

Sometimes during major online sales, too-good-to-be-true deals accidentally make it to storefronts. Often the retailer cancels those orders after realizing the mistake, but sometimes lucky bargain hunters actually receive the goods they found for way below market value. Case in point: some eagled-eyed photography enthusiasts say they saved thousands on high-end gear during Amazon's strike-hit Prime Day sale, with the retailer seemingly shipping some of the goods.

eBay doesn't want Amazon to get all of the spotlight during Prime Day 2019, and it's taking a dig at the glitch that interrupted the consumer holiday last year to offer a Crash Sale. If Amazon goes down, eBay will release a flood of "too-good-to-be-true" deals. But you don't have to wait around for an Amazon fail to score deals on eBay. Beginning at 8am PT today, eBay is offering savings like $2,000 off an LG OLED 65-inch 4K Smart TV.

Amazon staff will strike during Prime Day over working conditions

While Amazon is busy hyping up this year's Prime Day extravaganza, its workers will be drawing attention to more serious issues than price cuts. Staff at a warehouse in Shakopee, Minnesota will hold six hours of strikes on July 15th (the start of Prime Day) to demand less stringent quotas and the conversion of more temporary workers into permanent employees. The quotas make the work dangerous and unreliable, according to the workers, and permanent work will help create a "livable future." Workers in the US have protested before (including a December protest in Minnesota over support for East African workers), but not during crucial sales days -- you've only really seen that practice in Europe until now.

Everyone from Walmart to Target to eBay is coming for Amazon's online shopping crown, and now its Christmas-in-July event is adding yet another wrinkle: a concert. Leading up to to the two-day Prime Day 2019 on July 15th and 16th, Amazon Music will put on a show -- streamed live via Prime Video of course -- with performances from SZA, Dua Lipa and Becky G, not to mention a little-known headliner, Taylor Swift. Subscribers in 200 countries can tune in for the show July 10th at 9 PM ET. After it airs live, it will be available for replay for a "limited time," and it will also tie-in with promos for other Amazon stuff. Previews planned for the stream include teasers for Jack Ryan, Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Carnival Row, its superheroes-gone-bad show The Boys and Undone, which comes from the duo behind Netflix's Bojack Horseman.

July is almost upon us. That means it's nearly time for Amazon's huge Prime Day sale, which it's expanding to two days this year. But, like Target, eBay isn't content to give its rival all the spotlight, and plans to be right there with its own deals. eBay is running its own Crash Sale on July 15th, aka the first half of Prime Day.

The e-commerce giant stretched last year's Prime Day to 36 hours, but now it's giving Prime members a full two days to shop.

Walmart wasn't about to let Amazon have all the fun. Not long after the online retailer announced its Prime Day sale, which is said to offer more deals than Black Friday, Walmart is saying that it will have discounts of its own online. According to USA Today, this month over 2,000 web-exclusive Rollback deals are expected to be available across multiple categories, including baby and home products as well as electronics and toys. In addition to this, Walmart's also going to reduce the free-shipping order minimum from $50 to $35 for "at least" the next 30 days -- and that's starting next Monday. This isn't the first time Walmart has tried to catch up to Amazon, though. Last year, the company started matching Amazon's prices at brick-and-mortar stores, after it became apparent that the business was losing ground to its internet rival.

Not content with holding traditional retail sales events, Amazon's decided to make up one of its own. "Prime Day," as it's known, starts on July 15th and will let the company celebrate 20 years of selling things on internet by selling you more things on the internet (if you already have a Prime subscription). Amazon knows that people will want in on its upcoming discount day, so it's marking down its yearly subscription for those who haven't yet signed up. Between now and midnight on July 8th, Prime will cost £59, saving you £20 for your first 12 months.
