Soundbars may never deliver the level of quality a proper home theater will, but Yamaha's YSP-1400 still does a respectable job of delivering the dialog, music and explosions you want to hear in your favorite films. The YSP-1400 doesn't have a separate subwoofer, with Yamaha building the woofers into the feet of the soundbar instead. If you're worried that they'll block your TV's IR ports, don't -- there's a built in IR repeater to take care of business. Audioholics says the YSP-1400 delivers "mediocre surround sound" with "distorted" lows and highs. In spite of these flaws, Digital Trends notes "the system did showcase excellent dimension in the soundstage." While the YSP-1400 may not win best in show, Home Theater Review says it "delivers an extraordinary value" if you're looking for something minimal. However, if you want something a bit cheaper and more surround-sound like, Vizio's S4251W-B4 is a solid option.
