Wide swaths of the Bay Area have been under semi-lockdown since Tuesday when seven counties issued shelter in place orders, barring residents from travel unless in need of essential supplies and effectively shuttering many businesses. Come March 24th, that will include Tesla's plant in Fremont, California, the company announced on Thursday.

Tesla is following up a very busy February with an even more hectic March. Elon Musk has announced that his brand will unveil the long-promised Model Y crossover at the LA Design Studio on March 14th. On top of that, you can expect the first "v3.0" Supercharger station to switch on March 6th at 8PM Pacific. Musk didn't provide more clues beyond that, but you might already have an idea as to what to expect.

Apple has hired Andrew Kim, formerly of Tesla and Microsoft, to bolster its design team. Kim captured the attention of many in 2011 with a custom iOS device stand and again in 2012 when, as a fan, he shared his vision for an overhaul of Microsoft's branding and design language. He then joined Microsoft and helped design the Windows 10 UI along with HoloLens and Xbox One S, he writes on his LinkedIn profile, before moving to Tesla.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk has said its notorious Model 3 manufacturing issues almost bled the company dry. So it's no wonder everyone is interested in whether it's learned from past mistakes ahead of the launch of its new EV, the Model Y. The latest news suggests that as recently as October, Tesla was pursuing an aggressive production schedule for the crossover SUV.

On Tesla's earnings call after announcing its first quarterly profit, CEO Elon Musk chatted about the company's upcoming products. While claiming it has "the most exciting product roadmap of any company on Earth," Musk mentioned the Model Y crossover EV we've only seen hints of so far, and said "I recently approved the prototype to go into production."

While Tesla is still working on ramping up Model 3 production, it doesn't sound like its future vehicles' development has fallen by the wayside. The automaker has revealed another shadowy sketch of the Model Y crossover SUV during its most recent shareholders meeting. Based on the photo Electrek grabbed, it doesn't reveal a lot about the vehicle -- the design sketch at least shows Model Y from a different angle than what the first photo showed -- but Tesla chief Elon Musk shared a few details about the crossover. He said Model Y won't have any leather and even joked that it might not have a steering wheel at all.

Elon Musk can't stop shooting from the hip on Twitter. Last night, the Tesla chief said he might reveal the mysterious Model Y SUV on March 15th, 2019, "because the Ides of March sounded good." He then clarified that the unveiling could take place sometime between the end of 2018 and the middle of 2019. Maybe. Possibly.

Tesla has largely kept its forthcoming Model Y shrouded in mystery. We know it's a crossover EV, and we know it might not have mirrors, and that's about it. But CEO Elon Musk has now revealed that the company aims to bring the new vehicle to production in 2020, adding in its conference call that doing so will spark a "manufacturing revolution". Although he didn't expound on what that revolution will look like.

Elon Musk vows to build Tesla pickup truck 'right after' Model Y

Tesla has been hyping up the prospect of an electric pickup truck for a long time (you're looking at an artist's rendering above), but when can you expect to see it? You might have a clearer idea. As part of a call for feedback, Elon Musk has promised that the pickup will be made "right after" the Model Y crossover arrives between 2019 and 2020. We'd take that commitment with a grain of salt (remember how Tesla expected widescale Model 3 deliveries to start in 2017?), but it at least gives you an idea of what the EV maker is shooting for.

After narrowly meeting its promise to launch the Model 3 in July, Tesla has released its latest earnings report (PDF). Other than slightly higher than expected revenue, the company says that since the delivery event, it has averaged 1,800 Model 3 pre-orders per day. Of course, if you're getting in line now you could be in for quite a wait. The company expects to build about 1,500 Model 3s during the third quarter, but is maintaining its prediction that it will expand production to reach 5,000 of the cars per week by the end of this year.

It'll take a few more years before Tesla officially launches the Model Y, but we now kinda, sorta know what it could look like. The automaker has given us a first look at the upcoming mass market crossover EV during its annual shareholder meeting. It's pretty dark and doesn't really show a lot of details, but you'll probably notice the glaring lack of mirrors in the design. We don't know if Tesla truly believes it won't need mirrors when it becomes available by 2019 and beyond or if the design still isn't complete. All we know at this point is that it won't be based on the Model 3 platform, because Tesla chief Elon Musk wants to reduce the wiring needed by the company's vehicles.
