Netflix has posted the trailer for Sense8's long-in-the-making series finale, and it's clear the mysterious sci-fi show isn't going to go gently into that good night when it wraps up on June 8th. The promo emphasizes the bond between the Sensates ("we are more human than any other human will be,") and makes clear that the stakes are extra-high -- our heroes are not only in a race to save Wolfgang, but are edging ever closer to tracking down BPO's Chairman. And this being a Wachowski production, you can be sure that will involve plenty of martial arts and gunplay.

We're still wondering what happened to Wolfgang on head-scratcher sci-fi series Sense8, and it sounds like our answers might arrive sooner than expected. Netflix today announced that the wrap-up movie for the Wachowskis-created show will premiere on June 8th. If you'll remember, the series was unceremoniously cancelled last June.

Sense8 is one of the more creatively interesting shows available on just about any streaming service. The Wachowski-made Netflix show, now in its second and final season, tells the story of eight people with special powers using very human themes: love, belonging, gender, and (of course) sex. It's that last bit there that interests internet porn site xHamster. The company sent an open letter to Lilly and Lana Wachowski offering to pick up the tab for an "actual revival of the series."

When Netflix canceled its Wachowski-helmed, conspiracy-fueled original series Sense8 earlier this year fans weren't certain what would happen following season two's cliffhanger. Well, the streaming service apparently heard their cries (read: tweets and reddit posts). As such, the streaming service is throwing them a bone in the form of a two hour finale episode. The rub is that it isn't expected until sometime next year, according to a Facebook post written by Lana Wachowski.

'The Get Down,' 'Sense8' Cancellations Signal That Netflix's Originals Are 'Destructible' Daniel Holloway, Variety In the span of about a week, Netflix cancelled both The Get Down and Sense8 -- two noteworthy series from its slate of original shows. The streaming service seemingly renewed everything, but now a couple of its more anticipated shows won't return. Variety has a look at what this means for the company, including reasons why these two shows in particular won't be coming back. It turns out producing a Baz Luhrmann show is even more expensive than initially anticipated.

Netflix cancels 'Sense8' after two seasons

Just a week after Netflix pulled the plug on its Baz Luhrmann-produced musical series The Get Down, the streaming service announced the cancellation of the Wachowski's sci-fi series Sense8. The show revolved around a group of strangers with an unusual connection, and as a result required costly around the world filming. According to Deadline, its lengthy development process meant that the stars' options for a third season had lapsed by the time season two launched, and even though Netflix had reached out to negotiate new contracts it ended up canceling the show anyway.

The Wachowski siblings' trippy Netflix series Sense8 may not be everyone's cup of tea, but the show clearly has some fans: as part of a birthday celebration, Netflix has revealed that it's bringing Sense8 back for a second season. While there are no details as to when the sci-fi series is making its return, this is heartening news if you've been sitting on pins and needles for the past two months. Netflix is normally quick to announce additional seasons when it has a hit on its hands, so there was a real concern that this out-there programming (which hasn't always been a critical darling) would quietly get the axe. Whatever the reasons behind the delay, you can set your mind at ease... at least, for now.

Netflix's new sci-fi adventure, Sense8, follows eight people who suddenly develop psychic powers with each other. To commemorate the series, which is directed by The Matrix's Wachowski siblings, Netflix teamed up with J. Michael Straczynski, the guy who invented Babylon 5, and technologist Patrick Gunderson to create the strangest symphony you've ever heard -- or thought.

If you're all out of Daredevil, there's another geeky show coming to Netflix soon: Sense8, a new sci-fi series from the Wachowskis and Babylon 5 creator J. Michael Straczynski. We've been excited about the project since it was announced, but now we've finally got a clear idea of what it's about with a new trailer. And boy, does it look crazy. The series centers on eight strangers from all around the world who become mentally and emotionally linked. Basically, they're all able to experience what the others are feeling -- and yes, that leads to plenty of drama. The trailer shows off some Matrix-like action, but this being a Wachowski joint, we also expect it to explore plenty of metaphysical questions as well. Netflix is debuting all 12 episodes of the show on June 5 as a part of its packed summer release schedule, so start clearing out your weekends already.

Even if you're slow-burning instead of binging on House of Cards, you'll still need a few backups once you're through with Frank & Claire Underwood's world domination tour. Netflix has revealed release dates for most of its summer (winter in Australia) programming, ready to keep you inside where the AC is cool and the WiFi signal is strong. Of course, you can also check out the spring shows here, and if you need something this week there's Aziz Ansari and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. Sense8, its sci-fi collaboration with the Wachowskis will hit streaming on June 5th, a week before Orange is the New Black season three and a month before its Wet Hot American Summer revival arrives July 17th. Also worth keeping an eye out for are the Nina Simone documentary on June 26th, and Canadian sci-fi thriller Between coming at some point in May. Check for the full list after the break, and update your calendars accordingly.

  • Netflix crosses 50 million subscribers worldwide and takes aim at Comcast / TWC

It looks like that (pending 2 years for existing customers) price hike hasn't greatly affected Netflix's popularity, as it announced today that it has 50 million customers altogether. About 36 million of them are in the US, and Netflix specified that's about to launch in more European countries (Germany, Austria, Switzerland, France, Belgium and Luxembourg) in September. Its profit also more than doubled this quarter, up to $71 million from about $30 million in the same period last year. The only real change mentioned for customers is that it's about to start distributing in-store gift cards this fall, so you can give the gift of Netflix or join without having to pay online with a credit card. The company's focus of course is how it's building up a library of exclusive content, and it says Orange is the New Black quickly became the most watched series in every Netflix territory when season two launched. Upcoming shows include Sense8 from the Wachowskis and the Daredevil series it's making with Marvel, and it's cast a number of big names for those shows already like Vincent D'Onofrio, Naveen Andrews and Rosario Dawson -- now that Netflix scored 31 Emmy nominations this year they clearly have a tough act to follow. The company's earnings chat will start in a few minutes, check after the break to watch it live and see a few more notes about its current status.

  • Netflix signs up The Matrix, Babylon 5 creators to develop a new sci-fi series: Sense8

Continuing its quest to sate subscribers' appetites with a flow of original content, Netflix has announced a new original series, Sense8. Due in late 2014, it's being developed by the Wachowskis of The Matrix, V for Vendetta, Cloud Atlas and Speed Racer fame, as well as J. Michael Straczynski, creator of Babylon 5. Details are thin, but the press release promises a "gripping global tale of minds linked and souls hunted" with a ten episode run for its first season. As it did with House of Cards, Arrested Development and other productions, Netflix is relying heavily on data from viewers to decide which programs to support. According to chief content officer Ted Sarandos, "Andy and Lana Wachowski and Joe Straczynski are among the most imaginative writers and gifted visual storytellers of our time," whose creations are very frequently viewed on the service. According to the creators themselves, they've sought to work together for a decade, and this idea started from a late night conversation about "the ways technology simultaneously unites and divides us." If that's not enough for now, then there are a few more details and quotes in the press release, which is included after the break.
