The spec sheet isn't going to widen any eyeballs this morning, but as low-end flips go, Samsung's new a237 for AT&T really doesn't look half bad; then again, maybe we're only saying that because its rounded case and bold lines are a welcome change from the typical anonymity these phones usually suffer. True to its target market, the a237 tops out with EDGE data and a VGA cam, features a passable 160 x 128 main display, and sticks with grayscale for the secondary. It launches today in your choice of black, red, or blue, and rest assured, it's not going to break the bank. Scout's honor. [Warning: PDF link]

  • AT&T's new Samsungs, USBConnect Mercury in the wild

So a few shiny new pieces of hardware are starting to show up in AT&T stores; nothing to get terribly excited about, really, but the recently-released USBConnect Mercury is one of the purdiest data sticks we've seen in a while, and it's certainly a hell of a lot better looking than the USBConnect 881 of old. We also have an a237 here from Samsung (or a dummy of it, anyway) -- not bad for a dirt-cheap flip, we suppose -- and another unidentified Sammy with a hidden front display. Anyone want to hit us up with some knowledge on what that is?[Thanks, Kal]Update: We're hearing that the unidentified Samsung is the a137. Thanks, Jack and raapkid!%Gallery-30853%

Can't you just feel the excitement in the air? There's nothing quite like a low-end Samsung on AT&T to get the juices flowing, so we're delighted to see that phoneArena has uncovered the a237 clamshell with a monochrome external display, EDGE radio, and not terribly much else. No word on when it might launch, but when it does, it looks like we can expect blue and red versions -- and the smart money says it'll be free-ish on contract, as pretty much any non-3G handset should be these days.
