As smartphones get more expensive, and the innovation in new devices gets less grand, there's less reason to upgrade your device every two years. It's a problem for all device manufacturers which rely upon handset sales to grease the wheels of their business, but Apple thinks it has a solution. The company has teamed up with a number of Chinese banks to offer interest free credit on a number of new iPhone purchases.

Spotify is offering a couple of holiday deals and they're not limited to new users like these sorts of discounts typically are. First time Spotify Premium users in the US can get three months for $0.99 as long as they haven't used a 30-day trial before or provided credit card information in the past. And any Spotify Premium user that cancelled their account prior to October 16th of this year can get three months for the price of one ($10).

    07.09.2018

Google is trimming the prices of some of its most desirable products under the guise of a summer blowout sale. The company's official store is discounting its flagship smartphone, the Pixel 2 XL, knocking $100 off the price of both the 64GB and 128GB variants. Purchase either device and, at the checkout, you'll see that the former now costs $749, while the latter will set you back $849. Even better, however, is that if you buy two Home Max speakers, you'll find the price reduced by $150, from $798 down to $648.

If you're in the market for an Alexa-enabled product, it'll soon be the time to buy. Amazon says this year's Prime Day, starting on July 16th, is its biggest ever, with double the deals on its own devices and $100 off Echo Show. There will be more than one million other deals up for grabs, too -- so many that Amazon has extended the sale to 36 hours (compared to last year's 30).

From the looks of things, free two-hour shipping is but one of many, many Whole Foods perks Amazon is giving Prime members -- something subscribers deserve, considering Prime's 20 percent price increase. The e-commerce giant has just announced two new benefits for its subscribers: an additional 10 percent discount off sale items and deep discounts on select best-selling items every week. To take advantage of the discounts, Prime members have to physically go to a Whole Foods location and find the yellow 10 percent off and the blue special deal signs. They then have to scan the Prime code found in the Whole Foods Market app -- it'll appear so long as they sign in using their Prime credentials -- when they check out.

For the holidays and Taylor Swift's Reputation streaming launch, Spotify is offering new and existing subscribers of its Premium, ad-free service at a discount. You get a year of service for $99 up front, a discount of two months or $20 over the regular price. (That works out to $8.25 per month, $1.74 off the regular $9.99 monthly price.) The only catch is that the deal is not available to family plan members, and you can't cancel after the 14-day cooling-off period, unlike with the regular monthly plan.

Amazon adds its own discounts to third-party seller products

    11.06.2017

For the first time, Amazon is cutting the prices of third-party seller items at its own expense to be more competitive with other online sites, a move first spotted by the WSJ. Such items are labelled as "Discount provided by Amazon," marking a new policy that even many of the retailers aren't aware of. "I do not know if this is new or if I just never noticed it before," wrote reseller Rock Creek Gifts on Amazon's seller forum. The discounts are less than 10 percent, and appear to only be applied for sellers that use Amazon's fulfillment service.

Sometimes, it's nice to be appreciated. In Amazon's case, that means ranking number one in the UK Customer Satisfaction Index. While the company sits back and basks in the knowledge that it's scoring highly for professionalism, quality and efficiency, problem solving and complaint handling -- for the second year running -- it's extending an offer to all of its UK customers. For today only, if you place an order over £50, Amazon will take £10 off the total. To get involved, you'll need to enter the discount code "BIGTHANKS" at the checkout and ensure that the products in your basket are all sold directly by Amazon. Like last year, digital items, gift cards or anything listed by a third-party seller won't count. If you've been putting off that New Year purchase, now might be the time treat yourself.

  • MLB.tv's baseball subscription is $20 cheaper after lawsuit

    02.11.2016

Major League Baseball was due in court last month to answer for its practice of region-locking games. The policy basically meant that a die-hard Red Sox fan in the southeast US had to pay extra for things like Extra Innings package through a cable provider or an MLB.tv streaming subscription. Even with the latter option, in-market games were still blacked out or unavailable locally. In other words, if you didn't have cable, you weren't be able to watch your in-town team because of existing TV deals. MLB settled before the class-action lawsuit got going in court, agreeing to offer MLB.tv single-team packages priced at $85 a year. However, if your team doesn't do well, you won't be able to stream the playoffs or World Series.

Here's a little deal that we think you should know about; for today only, if you place an order over £50 on Amazon UK you can get £10 off. Simple, right? The company says it's a small "thank you" for winning some kind of survey conducted by The Institute for Customer Service. To redeem the nifty discount, you'll need to use the offer code "BIGTHANKS" at checkout and ensure your basket is filled with physical goods sold directly through Amazon. Digital items, gift cards or anything sold by a third-party merchant through Amazon's site is ineligible, basically. Still, it sounds like an easy way to save some cash on a couple of new video games.

Here are two pieces of information that you might think that it's worth using to draw a conclusion, or not, we won't judge. First up, Best Buy is offering a $100 discount on the Apple Watches that it sells, meaning that you can grab a base-model 38mm Sport for just $249. Second, rumors have emerged claiming that Apple will launch the second-generation of its wearable at an event in March. Now, if you wanted to imply that the retailer is clearing house in preparation for the inevitable refresh, well, that'd entirely be up to you.

Amazon Destinations, the travel site that offered deals on hotel stays, is no more. The company shut down the site yesterday, just six months after it began offering reduced rates on one- to three-night stays within driving distance of a city. Destinations only offered lodging in areas around LA, New York and Seattle when it launched in April, but expanded in July to include Atlanta, Boston, Houston and San Francisco. The company will honor reservations that were already made through the site, but the site's help page says that Amazon is no longer selling hotel stays on the web or through its "Local" app. If you're looking to save some coin on travel, it looks like you'll have to employ the likes of Expedia and Kayak. If you'd had your eye on a new Nexus device but missed out on the recent round of smartphone sales, today's new Google tablet deal might be of interest. Just days after the Nexus 6 price was slashed to £304 (normally £479), the WiFi Nexus 9 is enjoying similar treatment, with the 16GB model now setting you back £200 instead of the usual £319. Amazon and Argos are both hosting the deal, which also includes a £100 discount on the 32GB model, but Google has not reflected the price change on its own store.

Not content with holding traditional retail sales events, Amazon's decided to make up one of its own. "Prime Day," as it's known, starts on July 15th and will let the company celebrate 20 years of selling things on internet by selling you more things on the internet (if you already have a Prime subscription). Amazon knows that people will want in on its upcoming discount day, so it's marking down its yearly subscription for those who haven't yet signed up. Between now and midnight on July 8th, Prime will cost £59, saving you £20 for your first 12 months.

    05.15.2015

Remember Amazon's Fire Phone? It hasn't even celebrated its first birthday yet but you'd be forgiven for never giving the retailer's first smartphone a second thought. In a bid to rectify the device's original sky-high pricing, the company took a hit and dropped the cost of the Fire Phone to £99 back in January. Now it's back. For the next week, you'll be able to pick up the 32GB model for under a ton, with the 64GB version setting you back £179. For some reason, the 64GB model is actually £30 more than it was during Amazon's previous Fire sale, but you're still making a £200 saving on either O2-locked device.

If the latest flagships from Samsung and HTC haven't impressed you, now might be a good time to reconsider a Motorola phone. Starting at midnight on May 18th, the company is holding a 48-hour sale in the UK with hefty discounts on the Moto X, Nexus 6 and Moto 360 smartwatch. The Moto X is being cut by £96, pushing the 16GB model down to £299 and the 32GB version to £339. The gargantuan Nexus 6, meanwhile, is being dropped to £449 (32GB) and £519 (64GB), which is just £30 less than the current asking price.
