As Netflix nears 200 million subscribers globally, it’s shaking some things up when it comes to marketing. In the US it’s offered a free trial period for years — remember when Netflix streaming came bundled with new games? — that gave full access to the streaming library for up to 30 days, but as TV Answer Man points out, that is no longer available. A Netflix Help page encourages potential users to simply sign up and reminds them that they can cancel at any time, but curiously doesn’t point out the free portal Netflix recently added that contains a selection of shows and movies anyone can watch without paying.

Apple is giving people stuck at home the chance to try out two of its professional creative applications at no cost. To start with, the tech giant is extending Final Cut Pro X's free trial period from 30 days to 90 days. Users will still have to pay $300 for a license once it's over, but they'll at least have three months to master the video editing application before having to decide whether it's worth the price.

Earlier this morning, ArenaNet delivered its 2014 Guild Wars 2 World Tournament Series Championships roadmap from London's Eurogamer Expo, where the studio is livestreaming its latest e-sports endeavor. ANet is calling the tourney the game's "first truly international competition" as it pulls players from three continents; opening rounds of qualifiers have already concluded. The studio explains, "Each event will pit four teams in a fight to become the world's best Guild Wars 2 PvP players, with the top two teams from the host region facing off against two visiting teams. The debut event is scheduled for December 4-5 in Beijing, where players will vie for a $50,000 (USD) prize pool and the title of first-ever Guild Wars 2 WTS Champion." As promised Tuesday, the buy-to-play MMO's free trial also began this morning at 3 a.m. EDT; it's active for a week until the wee hours of October 2nd. Box prices (specifically, Digital Heroic Editions and Digital Deluxe Editions through the GW2 storefront) have also been halved throughout the promotion. [Source: Anet press release]

OK, guy in the comment section who always asks whether Guild Wars 2 has a free trial: The answer is finally yes. But there's a catch; free access to the game lasts for one week only, beginning at 3 a.m. EDT on September 25th and ending 2:59 a.m. EDT on October 2nd. ArenaNet says it has already opened registration for the trial so that interested gamers can start downloading the client ahead of time. Old trial accounts will work for this promotion. Earlier this month, Guild Wars 2's second feature pack overhauled the early game experience, making this an ideal time to be a newbie in the buy-to-play title. [Update: ArenaNet has posted a number of mechanics changes that will be in place for the trial and affect trial accounts, including restrictions on mail and chat.]

Defiance's free trial just got better as Trion Worlds has removed the time limit so that players can explore the game at their own pace. The trial still has a hard cap limit for 500 EGO, however. Trion also posted a dev blog talking about how the team is using stims, spikes, and revamped grenades to make the action in the recent Arkbreaker DLC even better. "Ark hunters constantly ride the dagger's edge between life and death: the addition of resource scarcity makes this danger all the more real when placed into the combat equation," Creative Lead Trick Dempsey explained. "Spikes, stims, and grenades add a huge amount of power to the ark hunter arsenal, but power always comes with the seductive possibility of becoming dependent and thus, vulnerable."

Developer ArenaNet has announced that the ongoing Guild Wars 2 free trial will be extended through next week. Instead of ending today as initially planned, European and American players will be able to experience the MMORPG free of charge until Monday, October 7 at 3AM EST. ArenaNet is also extending its sale on Guild Wars 2, a bargain which now comes to an end on Wednesday, October 9 at 3AM EST. Until that time, prospective adventurers can purchase the Digital Heroic Version of Guild Wars 2 for $40 ($10 less than its standard price) or the Digital Deluxe Edition for $45 (a $25 discount from its normal $70 price tag). As ArenaNet points out, Guild Wars 2 requires no subscription fees; once you've purchased the game, it's yours to enjoy.

You know that free trial week for Guild Wars 2 that was ending today? Well, guess what -- it isn't! ArenaNet is extending the trial three more days to give new adventurers more time to experience the game. And for those North American and European players who were kicking themselves for missing the chance to jump into Tyria, that extra time affords a full weekend to give the world a whirl. To get started, just head over to the official site and register. But don't put it off too long, because this deal is ending for reals on Monday, October 7th at 2:59 a.m. EDT. Additionally, the $39.99 sale for the Digital Heroic Edition is also being extended; players can now grab their own copy of GW2 at this discounted price until Wednesday, October 9th at 2:59 a.m. EDT. A helpful hint: Unless you are a night owl, you may want to take advantage of the sale the night before to make sure you don't miss out on the deal. [Source: ArenaNet press release]

You're probably just as shocked as we are, but Scarlet Briar is up to no good again: Rumor has it that she's messing around in Twilight Arbor, the former stomping ground of Duchess Faolain and the Nightmare Court. Players will join Caithe (who is probably so over bad Sylvari at this point) for a round of anti-Aetherblade maneuvers in a new dungeon path intended for level 80 players. You can look forward to achievement rewards in the form of a Slickpack backpack skin and miniature Twilight Arbor foe; a new version of the classic Nightmare weapon skins will drop in the dungeon itself. Aether key pieces can also be collected and combined to open chests inside Twilight Arbor because if there's one thing that brings us all together as a family, it's stealing stuff from Aether-jerks. Additionally, ArenaNet has announced that Guild Wars 2 will be hosting a free trial week, running from September 27th to October 3rd. If you decide the game is for you, GW2's Digital Heroic Edition will be on sale for $39.99 from September 27th to October 6th.
