Halloween is always a fun time for gamers. This year, Overwatch fans get their second annual seasonal update in a day or so, while Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare players can jump into a month-long event dubbed "Willard Wyler's Halloween Scream." There are four weeks of creepy events scheduled, including free supply drops, themed loot, the "Carnage" multiplayer map with double XP and character skins to add to your fun. Starting October 13th, you can drop into themed boss battles, with new baddies added the following two weeks. Plus, there's a weird new mode called "gesture warfare" so you can crush your opponents with hand movements.

With Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare just now landing and Modern Warfare: Remastered reminding FPS fans of the franchise's glory days, Sony is ready to celebrate the Call of Duty New Year. It's that time of year when CoD players get their hands on a new game, start leveling up their weapon kits again and getting ready for the next round of Call of Duty World League. As they did with last year's release of Black Ops III, PlayStation will be kicking off the new season with an invitational tournament and some big announcements about what's in store for one of the biggest games in eSports.

Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare and Modern Warfare Remastered have come to the Windows 10 Store, but you may want to think twice about buying the games there. According to Activision, those versions don't support console cross-play, and won't even work with versions on other PC platforms like Steam. In other words, you'll only be able to play with other Windows 10 Store buyers and not the millions of players who bought the game elsewhere. They aren't part of the Xbox Play Anywhere program either, meaning you'll be stuck with the Universal Windows Platform (UWP) version on Windows 10.

Activision has announced that the Jackal Assault VR Experience will be available, for free, for all PS4 owners. Jackal Assault is the standalone virtual reality component of its latest game, Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare. The short level sees you piloting a Jackal fighter jet as it gets shot into space for a spot of, uhm, infinite warfare.

As promised, the Infinite Warfare beta is live for PlayStation 4 customers who pre-ordered from participating stores. Folks are salivating at the thought of playing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered, but the new game it comes with? Not so much. But if you purchased the disc-based version of Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare in the hope of playing Remastered and slinging the newer title back to Gamestop, we've got some bad news. Activision has mandated that you can't relive the adventures of Soap and Price unless the Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare disc is sat in your console and your internet connection is live. Bummer.

There's already plenty to look forward to in Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare due out on November 4th: Space, futuristic weaponry, rifle customization, enhanced multiplayer modes and a bit of Jon Snow. While I missed the opportunity to try the game at the Tokyo Game Show this week, I did come across Jackal Assault, a PlayStation VR freebie that comes with the CoD title. And it didn't take long before I fell in love with this space dogfight demo. More importantly, I didn't feel sick at all, which is surprising given the speedy maneuvers I managed to pull.

We've known the upcoming Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare title would come bundled with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered for a few weeks now. However, at this week's E3, Sony and Activision clarified just how the availability of the reboot will go down. If you pre-purchase Infinite Warfare bundle that includes Modern Warfare Remastered for PS4, you'll receive that latter game a month before the duo is officially released on November 4th. Those packages range from $80 to $120 and the pre-release of Remastered will only feature the campaign. Those 10 multiplayer maps will remain under wraps until the first week of November.

Following a brief flurry of teaser trailers, developer Infinity Ward has unveiled its next game in the Call of Duty franchise. As expected, it's called Infinite Warfare and takes the series into space with robots, fighter jets and, of course, plenty of high intensity shootouts. Call of Duty has experimented with near-future settings before, but this pushes the concept further with a new foe called the Settlement Defense Front. The trailer starts with an invasion of Earth, before shifting perspective to aerial combat and, finally, an enemy spaceship infiltration. All the while, a cover of Space Oddity plays fittingly (and a little cheesily) in the background.

The Call of Duty series has been embracing dark sci-fi settings in recent games, and that trend doesn't seem to be slowing down any time soon. Activision has posted a teaser for Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare that gives you a hint as what's coming, and it's clear that you'll have to grapple with yet another dystopic future. A fearsome-looking representative of the "Settlement Defense Front" threatens to tear out his foes "from the history books" and otherwise usher in doom, complete with a brief glimpse of a city being wiped out. Ominous!

The Call of Duty franchise experienced a major turning point during its Modern Warfare stage, and roared into popularity not long after that. It's been nearly a decade since the game's release, but we could soon be storming the Bloc multiplayer stage and bringing those UAVs online again. In addition to the yet-to-be-officially-announced Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, it looks as though a remastered version of the original Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is also in development.
