Yesterday in Second Life there was: 16,552 new signups bringing the total to 11,673,931 signups. A peak concurrency of 54,124 at 2:50PM, and a minimum concurrency of 31,758 at 1:05AM. Median concurrency for the day was 43,566. The Grid Stability Index for the day was 1.58 (lower is better). An issue that could potentially have compromised the account credentials for Second Life's sizeable German population was tackled by Linden Lab earlier today, resulting in the yanking and subsequent updating of First Look/Windlight and Release Candidate viewers. Beacon problems come to light that have been impacting teleportation particularly of less experienced users for some little time now. Joshua Linden took a little extra time to warn us of a rolling restart which is due in the new year, on Wednesday 2 January. What's Cory Ondrejka doing next year? Well, he's not totally certain himself, yet, but he's got a couple things worked out, and he's got his own blog now.

Yesterday in Second Life there was: 16,420 new signups bringing the total to 11,656,997 signups. A peak concurrency of 53,920 at 2:50PM, and a minimum concurrency of 30,481 at 1:05AM. Median concurrency for the day was 43,099. The Grid Stability Index for the day was 1.35 (lower is better). A smooth day with decent peak concurrency. Second Life users who have obtained the Leopard 10.5.2 beta are advised that it is reported to break the viewer completely. Linden Lab's telephone system was supposed to have down for maintenance for two hours between 2PM and 4PM - but no status updates were provided, so it is not clear if this work went ahead - it may not have taken place.

Yesterday in Second Life there was: 18,117 new signups bringing the total to 11,640,173 signups. A peak concurrency of 53,316 at 2:20PM, and a minimum concurrency of 30,031 at 1:15AM. Median concurrency for the day was 41,340. The Grid Stability Index for the day was 1.61 (lower is better). A rack of hardware lost communications during the day, taking out a slew of simulators that had to be migrated to other servers. Linden Lab has published a full list of the affected sims. Concerns came up today that the long delays in relisting people/places/groups for search may be being amplified by a bug in the google search appliance software. A new version is under test.

Yesterday in Second Life there was: 17,344 new signups bringing the total to 11,621,636 signups. A peak concurrency of 50,727 at 2:15PM, and a minimum concurrency of 28,196 at 1:05AM. Median concurrency for the day was 40,505. The Grid Stability Index for the day was 1.53 (lower is better). Another systems failure today, at 3:15PM, resulting in the disconnection of approximately 3,000 of the 50,000 users online at the time. Otherwise a relatively unremarkable day.

Median concurrency for the day was 34,754. The Grid Stability Index for the day was 1.64 (lower is better). A significant service problem took place at 6:30AM SLT (US Pacific) affecting several thousand users. Other than that the day was quite smooth.

Yesterday in Second Life there was: 12,376 new signups bringing the total to 11,590,125 signups. A peak concurrency of 38,352 at 2:45PM, and a minimum concurrency of 27,902 at 11:50PM. Median concurrency for the day was 34,393. The Grid Stability Index for the day was 1.42 (lower is better). The grid was astonishingly quiet (more on that after the fold). There was a 30 minute disruption somewhere in the backend in the late afternoon. Pastrami Linden published the results of the 100 person survey on Windlight.

Yesterday in Second Life there was: 18,331 new signups bringing the total to 11,577,749 signups. A peak concurrency of 52,750 at 2:20PM, and a minimum concurrency of 30,999 at 2:10AM. Median concurrency for the day was 40,633. The Grid Stability Index for the day was 1.30 (lower is better). Very minor technical issues with a few simulators in the morning, followed by more downtime for Linden Lab's telephone system while the provider effected repairs. Otherwise, a surprisingly smooth day. Pastrami Linden posted a survey about future Windlight directions, but appears to have failed to open the survey up for respondents.

Yesterday in Second Life there was: 19,120 new signups bringing the total to 11,558,996 signups. A peak concurrency of 51,420 at 2:30PM, and a minimum concurrency of 30,321 at 1:30AM. Median concurrency for the day was 42,391. The Grid Stability Index for the day was 1.26 (lower is better). The issues from the previous day were sorted out not long after midnight, and the rest of the day was quite smooth, though Linden Lab's telephone support had problems through the day instead. Linden Lab announced the winners of their Winterfest snowman competition, which featured many deliciously Calvin&Hobbes-esque entries.

Yesterday in Second Life there was: 16,376 new signups bringing the total to 11,539,876 signups. A peak concurrency of 51,770 at 2:25PM, and a minimum concurrency of 30,104 at 1:40AM. Median concurrency for the day was 40,987. The Grid Stability Index for the day was 1.48 (lower is better). Just prior to midnight, money and asset transfers began to silently fail or to timeout. Colgate-Palmolive launched a brand promotion today. There was nothing for us to actually look at, except the site, so we did that. Second Life residents attacked Linden Lab staffers. Well, sort of. We announced the winners of our Second Life launch contests. Two new viewer releases yesterday: A Windlight viewer that fixes avatars, but with a bit of a gotcha; and a new release-candidate viewer. Linden Lab started a podcast series of their own, called Inside Linden Lab. In answering volunteer questions about Havok 4.6 yesterday, Andrew Linden mentioned new policy and plans for megaprims.

Yesterday in Second Life there was: 19,055 new signups bringing the total to 11,523,108 signups. A peak concurrency of 53,323 at 2:20PM, and a minimum concurrency of 30,261 at 1:05AM. Median concurrency for the day was 40,252. The Grid Stability Index for the day was 1.42 (lower is better). More login failures yesterday morning - between 9AM and 9:30AM the new 1.18.6 login system was running so slowly that it timed out for most people. Orange Island's Virtual Arts Week is coming to a close with it's second last day yesterday. Torley Linden showed us how to make a gift box.

Yesterday in Second Life there was: 20,256 new signups bringing the total to 11,503,472 signups. A peak concurrency of 50,747 at 12:45PM, and a minimum concurrency of 40 at 1:30PM. Median concurrency for the day was 36,157. The Grid Stability Index for the day was 22.87 (lower is better). Login services for 1.18.6 failed again in the morning at 9:25AM SLT (US Pacific time) for approximately 15 minutes. The asset system failed not once, but twice. No cause or reason has been given or word that the fix was more than temporary, so there's no reason not to expect the much the same again today. Emergency closures of grid logins were employed to cut down on system loads.

Yesterday in Second Life there was: 16,553 new signups bringing the total to 11,483,216 signups. A peak concurrency of 52,973 at 1:50PM, and a minimum concurrency of 29,161 at 1:35AM. Median concurrency for the day was 40,911. The Grid Stability Index for the day was 1.64 (lower is better). Some rocky times with not just one, but two brief failures of login systems during the day. A major update to Havok on the beta grid. More about that when we can figure out what's going on. Moo treated us to a video on Plant Pets. Linden Lab released not one but two months of key metrics in one go. We've got the results summarized and humanized for you. Linden Lab also released new account statements, making it easier for you to handle your RL business reporting and taxes.

Median concurrency for the day was 41,199. The Grid Stability Index for the day was 1.68 (lower is better). Linden Lab published November's Service Quality metrics. In a burst of irony, the Second Life website went down in the early afternoon, redirecting everyone to the grid status page (a familiar failure mode for those of you that have been around a while - this seems to happen every three months or so). A new Windlight First Look viewer was released, this one apparently merged with the 1.18.6 code branch. Electric Sheep Company ditched a third of their staff in a reorganization. Ecstacy Realty is holding a competition to give L$10,000 to some lucky newbie.

Median concurrency for the day was 42,337. The Grid Stability Index for the day was 1.49 (lower is better). Not quite record concurrency today, but a very smooth day - in stark contrast to recent times.

Median concurrency for the day was 44,368. The Grid Stability Index for the day was 1.25 (lower is better). A much smoother day than we've had recently, and as a result, median concurrency was rather higher than the same day last week.

Median concurrency for the day was 41,642. The Grid Stability Index for the day was 2.28 (lower is better). A large-scale grid failure early this-morning went unnanounced, affecting several thousand users. On the plus side, nearly half a million lost inventory items were recovered by Linden Lab and returned to their owners. Apparently 'tis the season to take in homeless prims. The long awaited patch from Apple to close a serious security exploit in their QuickTime product was rolled out.

Yesterday in Second Life there was: 15,199 new signups bringing the total to 11,394,267 signups. A peak concurrency of 53,246 at 2:00PM, and a minimum concurrency of 28,612 at 1:10AM. Median concurrency for the day was 39,371. The Grid Stability Index for the day was 1.78 (lower is better). The early hours of the day saw significant troubles for simulators. Linden Lab hasn't given any explanations for it, so we have no idea if we're going to see any more of it. Nicholaz Beresford's patch for misbehaving attachments is now available for Linux and Mac as well.

Yesterday in Second Life there was: 15,427 new signups bringing the total to 11,378,624 signups. A peak concurrency of 52,635 at 1:35PM, and a minimum concurrency of 29,614 at 1:15AM. Median concurrency for the day was 39,653. The Grid Stability Index for the day was 1.84 (lower is better). A very short-notice and quite disruptive rolling restart swept across the grid in the afternoon to correct an inventory issue. The restart got going later than planned and ran well overtime, not finishing until just before 5PM SLT. There's no word on whether it actually fixed the problem once deployed - or quite what the problem is that it was supposed to fix. A new release candidate viewer was made available, 1.18.6(RC1). Business analysts are swinging back to the other end of the hype cycle again - in a few months they'll swing back the other way.

Yesterday in Second Life there was: 8,715 new signups bringing the total to 11,363,021 signups. A peak concurrency of 44,591 at 4:05PM. Median concurrency for the day was 31,748. The Grid Stability Index for the day was 14.38 (lower is better). Four hours of downtime were scheduled, which turned into more like eight hours. Nicholaz Beresford thinks he has found and fixed the bug that causes attachments to go where the sun doesn't shine (and we don't mean hobbit holes). New editions of his viewer have been released. Cory Ondrejka, Linden Lab's CTO, was apparently fired from Linden Lab today, due to creative differences. Yes, that term is an overused catch-all, but in this case it's probably correct.

Yesterday in Second Life there was: 15,104 new signups bringing the total to 11,354,306 signups. A peak concurrency of 54,579 at 1:45PM, and a minimum concurrency of 30,080 at 1:15AM. Median concurrency for the day was 38,427. The Grid Stability Index for the day was 1.59 (lower is better). Grid services mostly collapsed during the morning, though not for an extended period. NOAA expanded its presence with oceanic displays and tours. Second Life is shutting down for four hours of maintenance in a few hours for capacity and storage upgrades.
