Social app Peach is looking for a benefactor on Twitter

Remember Peach? The social network from Vine founder Dom Hoffmann was briefly all the rage, but petered out as the realities of competing with Twitter (and every other social network) set in. It's been largely coasting since then, but now its team is looking for a helping hand. The Peach team has put out a call (ironically, on Twitter) for a "patron" that could keep its service running. After returning from a roughly two-week outage, the developers realized that passive upkeep "isn't cutting it" -- they need someone who can spare the resources to properly maintain Peach. That isn't possible for a small company that has "another big project" in the pipeline, according to the creators.

Three weeks ago, a new social network called Peach debuted. Created by Vine founder Dom Hoffman, it quickly caught on and climbed the download charts thanks to its unique "magic word" commands -- you could type "d" to draw something or "g" to search for a GIF -- and simply due to the fact that it was, well, new. Peach is also the name of the iOS app (sorry, no official Android app, though there is an unofficial one called Nectarine), which also happens to be the only way you could sign up for the service. Actually, the app was the only way you could use Peach, period. Now, however, you can at least access your Peach feed on your desktop thanks to a new web interface created by Hoffman. That is, if you're still interested in Peach at all.

Peach is the latest product from Dom Hofmann, the founder of Vine, and he once again seems to have hit the social-networking sweet spot. Peach is a free app that allows users to share updates like on Twitter, but using commands that are reminiscent of Slack. Type the relevant "magic word" and you're able to post a GIF, draw a picture, answer a random question, rate something, add how many steps or miles you've walked that day, roll some dice, or pull up a handful of other commands.

  • Platinum gets conceptual with Bayonetta's Nintendo costumes

You can channel Nintendo's heroines (and Hyrule's hero) while unleashing crazy combos in Bayonetta 2, but it's worth taking a break from witchcraft to see how the collaboration came together in the first place. As Platinum Games detailed in a recent blog post, Bayonetta's first borrowed garb was the result of director Hideki Kamiya asking Platinum's Yong-Hee Cho to draw Bayonetta in a Princess Peach outfit. The above image and the full gallery below shows some of Cho's conceptual interpretations, but Kamiya pushed to keep the dress closer to Peach's original style. After tying Bayonetta's hair up, adding a Mario charm and some forearm flair, Kamiya and Cho were pleased with the results. Kamiya's direction similarly led to the Samus costume resembling the bounty hunter's initial venture on the NES, but the development of Bayonetta's tunic is interesting: After Kamiya approved Cho's traditional take on Link's classic attire, Cho turned the designs in to Nintendo for approval. They were returned with a suggestion that Cho open the tunic's top a little more. Bayonetta's Nintendo-themed wardrobe is available in both Bayonetta games on the Wii U, and in the case of Bayonetta 2, Contributing Editor Earnest Cavalli's review remarked that it's a "grand sequel that overshadows the most gleefully over-the-top aspects of its predecessor with entirely new levels of awe-inspiring spectacle." • Here's what makes Bayonetta's Nintendo costumes special

Bayonetta 2's special brand of absurdity includes a few nods to Nintendo's roster, but its outfits are more than just reminders of Link, Samus and Princess Peach's existence. Isao Negishi, director of the Bayonetta Wii U port that will be bundled with Bayonetta 2, wrote out a few details about the garments, covering summons, sword-based attacks and a prime method to disarm tension. Princess Peach and Bowser disagree on the romantic qualities of kidnapping, but channeling Peach's fashion sense as Bayonetta lets players summon the spiky-shelled antagonist. As seen in the above image, Bowser will stuff his limbs through portals to knock around enemies, leaving coins as remnants of the carnage. Donning Link's tunic adds the Master Sword to Bayonetta's arsenal, but it also recalls iconic audio samples from The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. Negishi specifically mentions the triumphant sound that plays while opening a treasure chest, but he notes that there will be other audio-based cues as well. Negishi's post finishes with the Samus costume, which reflects the bounty hunter's original suit of armor by request of Bayonetta creator Hideki Kamiya. While arm cannon-oriented details weren't offered, players will be able to toggle Samus' visor up or down, which Negishi adds is surprisingly amusing when "endlessly going up-down-up-down during the game's more serious moments." Considering Bayonetta's one-liners and the new portal-punching Bowser, it's tough to remember serious moments even exist in this universe. [Image: Platinum Games]

  • Mozilla partners with BlackBerry to fuzz out software bugs

You wouldn't normally think of Mozilla and BlackBerry working together, but now they have, and all in the name of hunting down software bugs. Specifically, they're working together on advancing Peach, an open source tool that lets them "fuzz" out flaws in software, especially web browsers. Mozilla says they've already successfully implemented Peach to scurry out problems in HTML5 features like image and audio/video formats, fonts, WebGL, WebAudio and WebRTC, which should lead to a more secure Firefox browser and OS. To help that along, Mozilla has also announced Minion, a security testing platform that displays a smaller yet more pertinent set of data so that every developer can sift through it, not just security professionals. Together with BlackBerry, which has a long history with security processes and its own proprietary fuzzing software, they hope that their shared knowledge will lead to a safer web for everyone.

An intrinsic, universal facet of human nature is that we as people consistently want what we can't have. It's deeply rooted in our species' collective subconscious, silently driving our passions for incredible, unobtainable stuff. The Japanese Club Nintendo has a healthy track record for producing some of the most amazingly unavailable swag in our industry's long, storied history of unavailable swag, but we think these new limited edition 3DSes rank in at number one on our "Most Impossible Dreams" list. The 3DSes, named "Peach," "Mario" and "Super Kinoko," natch, are being produced in limited numbers (1,000 each) for Nintendo's "A Little Mario-like 3DS" campaign. Japanese Club Nintendo members who register two games between now and January 15 will be automatically entered to win one of these adorable little 3DSes. Club members will also receive a free copy of the 3D Classics port of Kid Icarus upon entering. So! If you're a Japanese Club Nintendo member, we hope you can feel our burning envy through your monitor. Unless you win one, in which case we'd love to have you over for poison tea some time.

It's that time again, everybody: time to sheepishly visit Burger King every day and buy a Kids' Meal for Nintendo freebies, all while trying to shut out thoughts of how disappointed your father would be to see you like this. Shame, shame. The fast food chain is giving away a bunch of different toys based on the Wii and its games, and all it wants in return is cash and a willingness to clog up your own arteries. We like the "Chain Chomp Launcher" the best, though the "Float and Go Boo" and "Light-Up Luma" are also nice. Plus, we can always keep telling ourselves we'll sell all this on eBay in the future for a small fortune. Yes, that'll do: it's an investment in our future. Pictures and details of all ten follow the break.

We're not about to complain, and nor should you (if you want to feel sorry for somebody, Australia's Club Nintendo scheme has gone AWOL, and check out South Africa's piss-poor Stars Catalogue).Anyway, as these are happy times for North Americans, we thought we'd reflect on some of the bestest Club Nintendo gifts and trinkets from both Japan and Europe to date -- some of which could end up in the U.S.! What is it that elevates Jenni's cosplay above others? Simple: the outfits are obviously beautifully made, the props are brilliant (we really need a giant Goomba now, though yes, we know it isn't actually that size), and there's a sense of humor about her work. Well, Raccoon Mario's sudden appearance made us laugh, anyway.Oh, and who hasn't encountered this problem? Just looking at that picture frustrates us!%Gallery-32071% Want moar cosplay? It seems the glorious baked treat that Peach offered Mario at the end of his arduous Nintendo 64 adventure is long gone. She dumped his podgy butt in the moat and ate it all for herself, and seemingly continued to enjoy royalty snacks for some time afterwards. Peach has plumped up, and now you can buy her! This eBay auction comes down to a matter of preference. Do you prefer slim, active Peach or hedonistic, pampered royalty Peach? Let you wallet do the talking. The idea of a plus-sized princess is actually pretty interesting. Someone should totally make a game out of it, although we're sure it'll never happen.[Thanks, Alejandro!]

It may take a village to raise a child, but it only takes three people to build one of the coolest custom computers we've seen in a long time. DS Fanboy reader (and prizewinner!) Jason Barnes, who posts as Ganthor, wrote in with this story, and we just had to share. Seems his friend Emily picked up a Mini-ITX motherboard and wanted a custom case for it, but didn't want to build it herself. Luckily, Jason did, and he recruited another friend, Jason Letterman, to help him get the project underway. Once he had permission to build the case, Jason was free to pursue a dream: building a computer in a lunch box. Of course, just any lunch box wouldn't do; it had to be something special that suited Emily's tastes (which are clearly excellent). After taking some measurements and checking out the various Nintendo lunch boxes, he ordered the one shown above. But that was the easy part!%Gallery-22379%

The first thing we should tell you about this (linked) comic is that it may be a little unsafe for some conservative workplaces, and perhaps a lot unsafe for anyone who never, ever wanted to think about the Mario crew in any sort of a sexualized manner. R.K. Milholland of Something Positive has often used video game references, and his cynical take on geek fetishes has cropped up more and more often since one of the main characters founded a phone sex line for geeks called Nerdrotica -- and it's that company's web cam chat that spawned this horrific look at a fetish we never, ever wanted to consider.Ever.

When Japan-based 4cr staffer and elementary school teacher Vinnk tried using the Mario universe to teach his young students the English words for family members, he can't have been expecting a lesson of his own on the Mario family tree from a classroom of six-year-olds.That's exactly what he did get however, with his pupils patiently pointing out that Wario, Mario, Luigi, and Peach were all siblings, that Bowser is either their father or uncle, and that Luigi must be older than Mario because he's taller. We're still no clearer on what Yoshi's role is in this incestuous mess, and it's not something we wish to dwell on for longer than is necessary.Anyway, for the full hilarious/adorable transcript of this exchange, hit the "Read" link below. It made our morning.
