The new Dyson Purifier Formaldehyde air purifiers — Hot+Cool (HP09) and Cool (TP09) — are able to distinguish formaldehyde from other VOCs using a dedicated solid-state formaldehyde sensor, in order to better monitor the carcinogenic gas constantly released from the likes of furniture, carpets, paint and flooring.

Unlike other traditional car brands, Dyson doesn’t have a fleet of profitable gasoline cars and diesel cars to offset the “huge losses” on every electric vehicle made — each Dyson electric car would have needed to make £150,000 to break even, according to the entrepreneur.

Many companies have offered to build much-needed ventilators during the COVID-19 pandemic crisis, notably GM, Ford and Tesla. However, Dyson has now stepped up to the plate and the UK company known for vacuum cleaners and fans might have an edge over other non-ventilator makers. It developed the "CoVent" device in just ten days using Dyson's current digital motor technology, according to CNN, and has already received an order for 10,000 units from the UK's National Health Service (NHS).

Following the success of the Supersonic hair dryer and Airwrap curler, Dyson is ready to unveil its latest hair-styling device. The company is leveraging its experience in heating and cooling home appliances to make beauty gadgets that can style your tresses with less heat, therefore promising to be less damaging overall. The Corrale is Dyson's new cordless straightening iron, and it's supposed to provide "all the same styling with half the damage" of a conventional straightener. It's also the first Dyson beauty product to not use the company's air multiplier technology.

Dyson patents a wearable air purifier that doubles as headphones

If you use public transportation, you know just how gross the air can be. Commuters are constantly coughing and sneezing, which releases thousands of germs into the air. Taking a flight can be even worse, thanks to the recycled air. And that's not to mention pollution-filled cities like Wuhan in China, or even Los Angeles. Wearing a face mask can help prevent you from breathing in those germs and pollutants, but they're not very effective, and they're not exactly socially acceptable. Air purifiers that hang around your neck are subtler, but they're even less beneficial. Dyson's patent for a new type of purifier describes a product that merges an air purification system with a set of headphones for an effective but somewhat subtle solution to staying healthy in germ- or pollution-filled settings.

Dyson's newest light, the Lightcycle Morph, is its most flexible lamp yet. At first glance, it looks similar to the Dyson Lightcycle, introduced last year, and it has many of the same key features -- like the ability to automatically adjust based on your local daylight. It also has three axes which allow it to rotate into different positions and the ability to emulate candlelight, but you'll have to shell out a minimum of $650 for this updated version.

You may not know this, but formaldehyde could be one of the many pollutants in your home causing irritation to your eyes, nose and throat. Existing air purifiers remove the compound from the environment by using activated charcoal, but that process simply traps formaldehyde and you'll have to replace filters to keep the system working. Dyson has found a way to continuously destroy the pollutant altogether in its new Pure Cryptomic range of purifiers. They're available in fan and fan-and-heater models for $650 and $750 respectively, and are based on the existing Pure line.

Sir James Dyson has revealed some early details about the company's electric car in a memo sent to employees and seen by Bloomberg and The Telegraph. A set of patents that recently became public also includes diagrams that make it seem like the vehicle will look like a Range Rover. However, Dyson said they "certainly don't reveal what [its] vehicle will really look like or give any specifics around what it will do." Instead, they "show an androgynous vehicle and provide a glimpse of some of the inventive steps [the company is] considering." The company aims to use it as a platform to introduce advances in aerodynamics and efficiency.

Solid-state batteries have long been heralded as The Next Big Thing after lithium-ion, with companies from all quarters racing to get them into high-volume production. Dyson, BMW and car manufacturer Fisker are just a few names that have been working on the tech for the last few years, but now, reports suggest a Chinese start-up might be the first to have cracked it.

Dyson has a lengthy list of air purifiers, but it's reportedly considering developing a model that's not quite anything it's ever created before. According to Bloomberg, the company has lodged patents for a wearable air purifier that will double as a pair of headphones. Wearable purifiers are already a thing, especially for countries like China where air pollution gets so bad it can increase the chances of getting stroke or cancer. However, they mostly come in the form of necklaces and, in some cases, scarves or masks.

Dyson will build a two-story factory in Singapore to assemble its highly anticipated electric cars. In a letter to employees, chief executive Jim Rowan said construction would start in December and be completed sometime in 2020. The nation was selected, he explained, because of its "significant advanced manufacturing expertise," supply chain benefits and access to high-growth markets. It also helps that Dyson has been building a workforce and facilities, including a research-focused Technology Centre, in the area since 2007. "We now employ 1,100 people and have made over 50 million high-speed Dyson digital motors in Singapore," Rowan said.

Having already worked on 1,600 kilometers worth of real human hair, Dyson obviously wasn't going to stop at its Supersonic hair dryer. In fact, the engineers have found a new purpose for the Supersonic's V9 digital motor. Announced in New York today, this rod-shaped Dyson Airwrap is positioned as an advanced curler that can also straighten or dry your hair, depending on which one-click attachment you put on. It's also fun to use, as you can watch your hair magically wrap itself around the curling barrel.

Dyson's second robot vacuum isn't afraid of the dark

It's been three years since the launch of Dyson's very own robot vacuum, the 360 Eye, and our very own Mat Smith was left impressed when he briefly lived with one in his old Tokyo apartment. That said, the machine wasn't perfect, but Dyson believes that its follow-up model will solve many key problems. The 360 Heurist announced in Beijing earlier today is a familiar-looking robot packed with some notable upgrades. For one, it's powered by a quad-core 1.4GHz processor, which is apparently 20 times faster than what was on its predecessor. According to the company, this helps the machine pick up 60 percent more detail about the environment, thus reducing the chances of bumping into things by 50 percent. Hopefully this also means fewer instances of misaligned docking.

Dyson's EV ambitions include 10 miles of test tracks

Dyson is most definitely serious about its plans to release an electric vehicle. The company has outlined its proposed second growth phase for its EV development facility at Hullavington Airfield, and the plans are more than a little ambitious. Its application would create more than 10 miles of test tracks around the former base, including specialized tracks for hill and off-roading tests. You'd also see more than 480,000 square feet of new new development space with room for 2,000-plus workers.
