Tencent thought licensing Monster Hunter: World for the Chinese market would help it compete with Steam when it comes to PC gaming. Unfortunately, things didn't go according to plan: the company has pulled the Capcom-developed title from its PC gaming platform WeGame merely a few days after release. And it's not because it underperformed -- Tencent said it received one million pre-orders for the game -- but because regulators in the country cancelled its license following a "large number of complaints."

There hasn't been much, if any, news about the game's PC port since, but that's all changed: Come August 9th, the co-op boss fight game will be available on Steam. It's up for pre-order already if you're feeling impatient, with a few in-game bonuses for doing so to boot.

Monster Hunter: World is the latest entry in a decade-plus game franchise dedicated to killing huge monsters. But the series has another reputation: barely explained mechanics, labyrinthine menus and difficult co-op play. Capcom smoothed out a lot of those rough edges for Monster Hunter: World and released it simultaneously worldwide, which has made it the most accessible of the franchise. Now, finally, it can take the crown as the best co-op boss fight experience out there.

We're back! After a CES and NAIAS-induced hiatus, we're digging into this week's lineup, which features the debut of Monster Hunter on new-gen consoles. Also, it's time for the return of Drunk History on Comedy Central featuring Tiffany Haddish, and Steven Soderbergh's edit of Mosaic is airing all week on HBO. While the Grammy Awards and season finale of Shameless are weekend highlights, I recommend checking out a new show that debuted during our break, Corporate, that should appeal to all Better Off Ted fans. Look after the break to check out each day's highlights, including trailers and let us know what you think (or what we missed).

Horizon: Zero Dawn is one of this year's best games, hands down. But if you wanted to hunt flesh and blood monsters as Aloy it fell short. Not that taking down robo-dinosaurs wasn't cool, it's just that sometimes when you wanna fell a T rex-looking creature, you jut want to fell one that bleeds. Well, you'll be able to do that in Monster Hunter: World. PlayStation 4 owners will be able to play through the game as the bad-ass ginger huntress as a bonus when the game releases worldwide January 26th.

The Monster Hunter series is bigger in Japan than many of the foes you'll face in the game with its most recent release, Monster Hunter X, selling 3.2 million copies in roughly its first month. The series has not been nearly as popular here in the States, however that could change early next year when Monster Hunter: World drops worldwide, all at the same time.

If you're a Monster Hunter from way back, you'll likely be excited to know that Capcom's latest iteration, Monster Hunter World, is set for release in early 2018. The trailer was unveiled onstage at Sony's PlayStation Live experience at E3 in Los Angeles, revealing a lush environment with reptilian monsters large and small, plus a huge fire-breathing bird-thing that shows up just in time to help the hunter get away from a big scent-carnivore. Monster Hunter World will appear on Xbox One at the same time, with a PC release sometime later.
