Netflix doesn't have much in the way of theater productions on its streaming platform, with Bruce Springsteen's one-man Broadway show perhaps being the most notable. However, the service is drawing from the stage for an upcoming movie, as it's set to adapt the play The Boys in the Band.

Now that presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump has come right out and declared "America First", a popular slogan among white nationalists throughout the country, here's a look at some of the other precedent-setting events of the week. Microsoft announced that it's getting into the legal weed game. Regulators have been presented with a proposal for the first US-based human CRISPR experiment. And Broadway announced that it will take the unprecedented step of livestream a musical. Numbers, because how else will we know how unpopular the presidential candidates are?

The first livestreamed Broadway show is happening June 30th

There have been theatre and opera performances streamed live over the internet before, but until now the famous Broadway stages have been off limits. That will change June 30th, when BroadwayHD streams She Loves Me to customers not in a movie theater, but at home or on the go. The Roundabout Theater Company production features familiar names from TV like Zachary Levi and Jane Krakowski, and will be available both live and afterwards via video on-demand. BroadwayHD has been streaming replays since late last year, and has apps available for both the new Apple TV and Roku (PC and mobile viewers will need to watch on their web browser.)

Yes, you read that correctly: A musical about the late Steve Jobs and Bill Gates is coming to Broadway, the famed theatre hub in New York City. The production, titled Nerds (because of course it is), will be a comedy that narrates the rivalry between the Apple and Microsoft co-founders. To make the story more interesting, and pay homage to its tech-savvy subjects, Nerds is going to feature holograms on stage and an app that lets audience members interact with the set and each other.

There's no doubt live and on-demand streaming services are the future of entertainment. Knowing that, BroadwayHD is launching a new product with video content from over 100 theater performances. The digital service, created by two stage producers, features a vast library of previously recorded shows that are being distributed in a Netflix-esque way. You'll find stage productions like Memphis, Romeo and Juliet, Copenhagen and Jekyll and Hyde, as well as a variety of others in categories including classics, comedy, drama and musicals. BroadwayHD offers an annual access tier for $170, or $15 per month, while two-day rentals can be purchased for $8. At the moment, there's no app for the service, but its mobile site does support both AirPlay and Chromecast -- and you could always watch on your laptop or desktop, of course.

  • April Fool's: Doodle Jump Live! takes Kevin Durant to Broadway

With more than 10 million-plus sales and loyal fans all over the world, Doodle Jump developer Lima Sky is making the next logical leap for the franchise, Broadway. Doodle Jump Live! will make its stage debut in 2014, with an all-star production team lead by Julie Taymor of Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark fame. Recent GEICO spokesman and '80s pop icon Eddie Money will provide the score to what producers are calling "the highest musical of all time." Leading the cast in this sky-scraping adventure is Oklahoma City Thunder forward and Broadway virgin Kevin Durant in the role of the Doodle the Doodler. The production will follow Doodle as he bounces and jumps toward the sky in search of Cloud City and his long-lost high school sweetheart, Princess Doodlette. Along the way he will face danger, enemies and the possibility that Cloud City might not exist at all. "Every day I am asked why I haven't created a live version of Doodle Jump, since it is such an obvious match for Broadway," said Igor Pusenjak, creator of Doodle Jump and executive producer of Doodle Jump Live! "Despite countless big-money offers, it never felt quite right. But when this creative triumvirate walked into Lima Sky's headquarters, the vision became crystal clear." The production has found its home at The Gershwin Theater, the long-running home of the Broadway smash Wicked. Accordingly, Wicked will shut down production in late 2013 for Doodle Jump Live!, as three additional stories must be added to the iconic theater to fully realize the production. For readers uncertain of Durant's ability to equally pull off the musical and physical aspects of production, we have included proof of the athlete's vocal prowess. Obviously the 2014 Tony Awards just got a lot more interesting.

  • Hauppauge announces StreamEez to broadcast live HD video

Hauppauge, not satisfied with only bringing DVR-like functions to the Broadway this week -- has unleashed a new box called the StreamEez that links your HD video camera to your computer for live broadcasts. HDMI or component video hook it up on the cam side, USB on the computer side. It uses H.264 video compression and is compatible with sites like USTREAM that require the RTMP protocol. The box plus Windows software starts at $299. Everything but the price probably sounds pretty familiar since the incredibly similar Livestream Broadcaster is also just about on the scene, though, it'll run you about $195 more. Take a gander at the PR after the break.

Sure, we didn't have too many major qualms with the Broadway when we reviewed it in February, but it didn't exactly bowl us over either. Still, if it gets a steady diet of software updates like today's it could turn into quite an impressive device. The budget TV streamer now has the ability to act like a DVR if you attach a storage device to one of its empty USB ports. Of course, you can't just pull up the recorded programs on your set top box as you would with standard DVR, but it does allow you to stream them to your various devices without the need to be watching live. For a few more details check out the PR after the break.

New ways to watch TV, we're always looking for 'em. New products for you to buy, companies are always trying to make 'em. The two aspirations converge with Hauppauge's latest product, Broadway. The idea here isn't exactly novel, but with few exceptions Sling Media has been left to dominate the placeshifting category. The Broadway picks up where Sling kicked off, adding WiFi and more interestingly, shedding the need for costly clients, instead using a built-in web server to access the live video streams. Interesting idea, sure, but is it actually useful and worth the $199 it demands? We hope to reveal just that, after you click through of course.

  • ViaSat details home broadband, 12 Mbps service to roll out on the 16th for $50 per month

Earlier this year, ViaSat launched its ViaSat-1, a 140 Gbps capacity satellite positioned over North America. We've already heard about plans to bring Ka-band coverage to the friendly JetBlue skies later this year, but now the new broadband provider has detailed residential availability as well, through the National Rural Telecommunications Cooperative. NRTC members will have access to 12 Mbps service packages starting at $50 per month as soon as January 16th, finally bringing high-speed broadband to areas where fiber and cable services are not available. ViaSat may not be rolling out to consumers for another couple weeks, but the provider will be on-site at CES to demo the service in "residential, commercial airline, and satellite newsgathering" scenarios beginning Tuesday, and you better believe we'll be there to test it out.

  • Hauppauge debuts Broadway live TV streamer for iPhones and iPads, WinTV-Aero-m receiver for PCs

It may look vaguely like an accessory to a late-80s PC that's sprouted antennas, but Hauppauge's new "Broadway" live TV streamer does have a few more modern tricks up its sleeve: it can stream live TV to your iPhone or iPad. That can be done over WiFi in your house or over the internet anywhere else, and the device packs a multi-format receiver that can tune in both digital cable TV channels and ATSC over-the-air broadcast channels (or analog TV, for that matter), which are all conveniently compressed for streaming. Alongside it, Hauppauge has also rolled out its new dual-format WinTV-Aero-m USB receiver for PCs (pictured after the break), which will let you receive Mobile Digital TV broadcasts designed for mobile TV reception, as well as high definition ATSC digital TV broadcasts. Look for it to be available soon for $69, while the Broadway streamer will be available in "about six weeks" for $199.

  • HP Palm Broadway, Manta and Topaz name-dropped in casting call

All the pieces, they're a-comin' together. If you'll recall, we spotted a smattering of HP Palm codenames in webOS 2.0 code early last month, and now, those very names are popping up elsewhere. Over at DirectCast, a couple of casting calls have emerged for HP Palm, with both of 'em seeking young, carefree hipsters with lovely hands. They're willing to pay a solid grand if you fit the profile, presumably to hold one of these impending devices on camera for some sort of advertisement. A PreCentral reader actually signed up, and then received some even more interesting information -- he was informed that the shoot will involve the HP Palm Broadway, Manta and Topaz. The Broadway was indeed one of the devices spotted in the aforementioned code, and while Manta wasn't there, "Mantaray" was. Topaz, of course, looks to be Palm's forthcoming tablet. This is all just expanded speculation for now, but if you were holding out hope for new HP Palm products, feel free to let your imagination run wild.

Had any doubts that HP would deliver multiple new phones? Here's a little something that should make you slightly less unsure. Homebrew hub WebOS Internals spent last week digging through SFR's webOS 2.0 build for the Palm Pre 2, and surfaced with the names Broadway, Windsor, Mantaray and Stingray, as well as the Roadrunner you're likely already familiar with. More telling, these five codenames appeared in a string designed to display the message "temporarily not restoring logs for newer devices," meaning they're all very likely as fresh as can be. Let's hope we can pin them to some fancy new hardware before the year is through.

Finally, a video game will give you the opportunity to stand on your couch and sing "Don't Cry For Me Argentina" to your proletariat television below. Yes, Andrew Lloyd Webber songs are making their way to Lips. The tracks will cost 160 MS Points ($2) apiece and include some of the Broadway and West End master's greatest hits. Available August 13: "Memory" from Cats "All I Ask of You" from Phantom of the Opera "Love Changes Everything" from Aspects of Love Available September 10: "Don't Cry For Me Argentina" from Evita "The Phantom of the Opera" from Phantom of the Opera "Any Dream Will Do" from Joseph and the Technicolor Dreamcoat Considering the resurgence in musicals the last couple years, it's still surprising that the closest game to involve them is the Ubisoft hit Dance on Broadway.

  • The Agony and the Ecstasy of Steve Jobs previews early

We reported on Mike Daisey's monologue The Agony and the Ecstasy of Steve Jobs earlier this year. The play was (and is still) scheduled for a run at the Berkeley Repertory Theatre from January 14 to February 27, 2011, but due to popular demand, the monologue will now preview for one night only on April 22 at the Ensemble Studio Theatre in New York. The play is a monologuist piece that "dives into the epic story of a real-life Willy Wonka whose personal obsessions profoundly affect our everyday lives." You know, usually plays show longer "due to popular demand," not open nine months early. Just goes to show when you slap Steve Jobs' name or likeness on anything, you can sell it to people. On the other hand, Daisey's a pretty funny guy, so if you go see it I'm sure you'll enjoy yourself. And if you do see it, drop us a line to tell us what you thought!

  • iPad launch day, Broadway/UWS store

The sun-dappled temple of Apple just north of Lincoln Center was quite a bit more laid-back than the 5th Ave. store, at least by the time I arrived in the late morning. Reservations were being handled downstairs (no line to speak of) and walk-in sales up on the show floor. Stock of all three models was "fine," according to overheard chatter between salesfolk and would-be buyers. (They also seem to be pushing the MobileMe, for what it's worth.) I did swing by the Best Buy that's conveniently located between the two uptown NYC Apple Stores, and indeed they also had iPads in stock. No line there either, but a nice little crowd chatting with the Apple Specialist. Note to whoever put the laserprinted sign on the front door: it's "iPads," not "Ipads." %Gallery-89684%

It's scheduled to open to the public on Saturday morning, but Apple gave a sneak peek of its newest US retail outlet to press and photographers this morning -- no, I wasn't invited, and yes, I did ask nicely. Gothamist is there, though, and snapping some snazzy pictures of the grand glass roof and huge sales space. The word that comes to mind is 'dramatic,' and then the next word that comes to mind is 'big.' How big is this new store? Ron Johnson tells the site that the ground floor could fit eleven of the iconic glass cubes from the 5th Ave store. Yowza. More pictures here from ifoAppleStore cover the store's unveiling. If you're planning to attend the store opening on Saturday, drop us a line or send in a link to your photos & videos.
