LG Pay goes live in the US
More than two years after it arrived in South Korea, LG's long-delayed contactless mobile payment system has finally gone live in the US. LG Pay is available on the G8 ThinQ at launch. In the coming months, it'll be available on V50 5G, V40, G7 and V35 from Google Play, and it'll work on all future flagship devices.

LG launched its mobile payment system in South Korea last June and Yonhap News reports LG Pay is finally on its way to the US. The US expansion is reportedly planned for sometime during the first half of this year and might be launched under a new name -- LG Wallet. Android Police actually spotted an LG Wallet app in the Play Store a few days ago, but it has since been removed.
LG is finally launching its mobile payment system (in Korea)
LG is finally ready to debut its Samsung and Apple Pay rival now that it has forged a partnership with US-based firm Dynamics Inc. According to Reuters and Yohnap News, the Korean tech giant plans to launch its mobile payment system aptly called "LG Pay" in its home country this June. It will use Dynamics' wireless magnetic technology and will work with existing credit card terminals, just like Samsung's solution -- you only need to tap your phone against the device to make a purchase.
Will LG's payment card succeed where others have failed?
A new report out of the Korea Herald revives the rumor that LG's going to try something different with its own foray into mobile payments. As we reported earlier this year, the company has been working on a system that uses a standalone digital credit card rather than an NFC chip inside your smartphone. Apparently the Korean conglomerate had planned to launch the product at the start of the year, but held off to foster better relations with banks. But given how other attempts at reinventing the credit card have gone, is LG really going to crack a winning formula?
LG will reportedly unveil a universal payment card next month
When LG announced it was readying its own payments service last year, it appeared that the company would follow the path travelled by Apple, Google and Samsung and launch a mobile-first solution. However, if this leak from Korea's Electronic Times is anything to go by, LG Pay won't require a smartphone at all, but instead try to replace all of your credit and debit cards with a universal solution called the "White Card."
LG throws its hat into the crowded mobile payment game
You might not be terribly excited about mobile payments, but there's a reason why there are so many out there, including Apple Pay, Android Pay and, yep, Samsung Pay. All of those companies get a cut of every user purchase, which can add up to a lot of much-needed extra revenue. So it's not terribly surprising that LG has launched a mobile payment system of its own called (wait for it) LG Pay. The company didn't provide a lot of details, other than saying it will only be available in Korea for now. However, LG promised TechCrunch it would reveal more in the "coming weeks," so it may have plans to launch the service in other markets later on.
