    'Far Cry 5' has a cult-fighting dog

The next Far Cry is based in America, and our first glimpse of gameplay at Ubisoft's E3 2017 press event suggests a game where your band of misfit guns for hire are pretty darn important -- and one of them is a dog. Amazing Grace formed the soundtrack for the Far Cry 5 intro, sung by one of the antagonists as he holds a pretty darn meaty gun in the middle of a church.

If you're bored with Pokémon Go and happen to be a fan of Comedy Central's animated misfits, you'll soon be in luck. Ubisoft's RedLynx teamed up with South Park Digital Studios for South Park: Phone Destroyer, a free-to-play mobile game that's set to arrive on Android and iOS later this year. Ubisoft says the game is designed so nothing is blocked behind a paywall and every part of the game is available to everyone -- whether they choose to spend money or not.

Ubisoft's extreme sports, open-world game Steep is getting its first full expansion pack later this year. The "Road to the Olympics" add-on will, as the name suggests, take you into an experience tied around the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang, South Korea. You'll have the chance to represent your favorite country across different competitions, including the snowboard slopestyle and halfpipe, as well as ski cross and slalom. Based on the trailer released today, it looks like Steep's Road to the Olympics could be a good time killer, especially since it's an officially licensed product.

'Skull & Bones' takes open world online gaming to the high seas

Ubisoft Singapore just announced its next game here at E3 2017, called Skull & Bones. It challenges players to rise to the rank of ultimate pirate kingpin while playing with their friends and against their enemies in an online open world. During the conference, the developers showed off 5-on-5 multiplayer, as ships jostled about in combat and, eventually, escaped with their ill-gotten loot. If this sounds familiar, it's because the team previously worked on the ocean gameplay in Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag. According to the game's description, you set sail on the Indian Ocean, amass a fleet and ally with other pirate captains to form gangs. Your character refused a king's a pardon and sailed from the Caribbean to hijack trading ships and take down your rivals. Since many people thought ACIV's ocean-going sections were the best part, there's a lot to be excited about here. Interested gamers can sign up for more information on the upcoming beta test right here, although, with a fall 2018 release window, you're probably in for a wait.

'Transference' wants to scare you out of ever playing VR again

Today, we look at virtual reality mostly as a means of entertainment -- but the technology introduces some interesting questions. Can virtual experience be used to treat PTSD? Could it be used to create false memories? The idea of VR as a tool for "hacking" the brain seems to be the idea behind Ubisoft's new virtual reality title, Transference. That on its own sounds interesting, but if that's not enough, the title has star power: apparently, the game features Elijah Wood.

‘The Crew 2’ expands open-world racing to the air and sea

The middling reception to The Crew hasn't stopped Ubisoft from making a sequel. The open-world racing franchise returns with The Crew 2, this time with planes and boats thrown into the mix. You'll be racing through 'Motornation,' a fictional version of the United States which includes cities, forests and deserts. Think of it like Steep, Ubisoft's action-sports adventure game, but for motorsport. One minute, you'll be racing through New York City in a supercar, the next, you'll be carving through a swamp in a high-speed jet boat. You can't do the latter in Need for Speed, that's for sure.

Without a doubt, the strangest Nintendo Switch rumor to surface in recent months revolved around a crossover between Super Mario characters and Ubisoft's screaming Rabbids mascots. It was doubted, argued over and eventually, all but confirmed by leaked game art. Let this be the final word: Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle is very real. Ubisoft just announced it at E3 2017.

Here it is, in the flesh: the Xbox One X. Billed as the "world's most powerful console," and formerly known as "Project Scorpio," the new member of the Xbox family has finally made its debut at E3 2017. And while Microsoft is placing huge emphasis on things like 4K/HDR gaming and that custom eight-core AMD CPU, it's also worth noting how sleek and small the Xbox One X is. The launch model features a minimalist rectangle design with a matte black finish, complemented by a subtle touch of glittery accents throughout the console's shell -- but won't notice them from a distance.

While Project Scorpio was teased at last year's E3, it was only yesterday that we finally got a good look at Microsoft's latest console, now named the Xbox One X. It's the company's answer to Sony's PlayStation 4 Pro, bumping up the system's graphics capabilities while making a few other design tweaks in the process. For a better idea of all the key changes check out our chart pitting the three iterations of the Xbox One against each other, and check back later this year for our full review.

The Xbox One X will be great ... next year

Who wants to buy the Xbox One X, most powerful console ever made? Microsoft will have no problem persuading hardcore gamers to shell out another $500 on November 7th. But, as we've argued, it's a tough sell for most shoppers. There simply isn't a compelling reason for existing Xbox One owners, or anyone who doesn't have a 4K TV, to take the plunge. And even if you're 4K-ready, there's still a clear lack of Xbox One X ready titles on the horizon. Fast forward to 2018's holiday season, though, and things should look a bit different.

Who wants to buy Microsoft's Xbox One X?

$499. No matter how many games Microsoft showed (42) and which specs flashed across the screen (teraflops! ram!), most of the reaction to its One X unveiling at E3 focused on that. It's not the $599 debacle that Sony faced with its PS3 unveiling over a decade ago, but the "most powerful console ever" has a large hill to climb when it's also the most expensive console available, topping the 1TB PS4 Pro by $100.

Microsoft's Xbox controllers are more customizable than ever

Like the idea of customizing a controller in the Xbox Design Lab, but wish you could add a little more flair or (gasp) practical features? You just got your wish. Microsoft has added a slew of new customization options, including four new main colors, 11 thumbstick colors, metallic finishes on D-pads and triggers, and (most importantly) rubberized grips. Personalized gamepads are still expensive at $80, but you might feel like that money is better spent after this.

Bethesda just announced that its reboot of the original eSport, Quake Champions has entered public beta today. That means anyone with a PC capable enough to run the fast-paced shooter should be able to jump in and start playing right this instant. What's more, there's a tie-in to the just announced Wolfenstein sequel, The New Colossus: Protagonist B.J. Blazkowicz will be a playable character. Oh, and he'll be able to dual-wield weapons. There will be a tournament at this year's QuakeCon with a $1 million prize pool.

Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus was hardly a secret. The much-anticipated sequel to The New Order and The Old Blood was teased at the start of Bethesda's E3 press conference last year, and all but confirmed by BJ Blazkowicz voice actor Brian Bloom last October. Still, it's nice to see the game finally announced. Bethesda unveiled the new entry as part of its 2017 E3 showcase, which follows Blazkowiz and his ongoing mission to defeat the Nazis in an alternate history timeline. It's brash, violent and everything else you would expect from a modern Wolfenstein game.

'Dishonored' is getting its first standalone assassination

There's a new Dishonored game coming, but it's not Dishonored 3 or DLC for last year's entry. Instead, Dishonored: Death of the Outsider is a completely separate title coming on September 15th. The game's announcement at Bethesda's E3 shindig left Dishonored fans confused (just look at the YouTube comments), but the company describes it as the "first standalone adventure" for the series. It stars some of the Dishonored's most intriguing characters -- Billie Lurk and the assassin Daud -- on a mission to assassinate The Outsider, the mysterious being behind the series' supernatural powers.

When Nintendo used The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim to tease its new hybrid portable game console, a lot of us were left confused. Sure, portable Skyrim sounds great, but is it enough to get gamers to buy the game for a second or even third time? No? How about if Bethesda throws in support for motion controls, Amiibo and adds in the Master Sword?

VR is all the rage these days and Bethesda is offering more immersive views of two of its popular games in 2017. One of those is Fallout 4, and the title is making the leap to HTC Vive this fall. At E3 last year, Bethesda revealed that both Fallout and Doom would soon be available in virtual reality and now we know when to expect at least one of them. Details are still scarce for now, but what we do know is Fallout 4 VR is set to hit that virtual reality headset in October. We'll add more details here as they're announced, so stay tuned. Who knows, maybe we'll get a chance to play the new version at E3 2017 later this week. For now, watch the Fallout 4 VR trailer embedded below.
