It's been seven years since Bethesda debuted "Skyrim," but the franchise's fans won't have to wait much longer for the sequel. Just after previewing "Starfield," the company's first original IP in a quarter century, Bethesda had "just one more thing" for the assembled crowd: "The Elder Scrolls VI." The iteration number is just about all we know about the upcoming title so far but stay tuned to Engadget for more updates, we'll be reporting from the E3 show floor all week. We're excited to announce our next chapter, The Elder Scrolls VI. pic.twitter.com/3aF5evUsnY — Bethesda Game Studios (@BethesdaStudios) June 11, 2018

So it's not all sequels and ports. Bethesda revealed its next big single player project, Starfield. It centers around, er, outer space, has an aesthetically pleasing logo and the company wants us to get really hyped about it. And so it should: This is Bethesda's first new franchise in 25 years. We really want to hear more about it and how the company will bring its reliably deep gameplay and character development systems to space. Stay tuned.

How Bethesda plans to pull players back to 'Prey'

Last year's Prey was a creepy shooter and role-playing game set on a spaceship riddled with black, shimmering aliens. The so-called 'immersive sim' was praised for its science fiction story, which let you shape the main character and the fate of the hostile research station. The gameplay, though, was seen by many as a retread of BioShock, System Shock and other genre classics. Despite its wild Neuromod abilities, which let you become an expert hacker, fighter or shape-shifting alien, the rebooted Prey failed to catch the public's attention.

In addition to blowing the crowd's collective mind with its "Fallout 76" news, Bethesda also had some news for the franchise's more casual fans. The company announced that Fallout Shelter is now available on both the Playstation 4 and the Nintendo Switch, for free. So get building Vault Dwellers! Follow all the latest news from E3 2018 here!

Bethesda is aware. Enough Skyrim ports. Enough already. Cut. It. Out. The game maker showed a shred of self-awareness of its endless wringing of the long-running franchise and appeared to faux-introduce Skyrim: Very Special Edition, a voice-based reimagining of the RPG for Alexa. The kicker? It's real and it's available now (just don't expect to actually do anything with it).

Bethesda is all about that virtual reality, baby. Wolfenstein Cyberpilot is a new game heading to VR and it's due out in 2019, but it's playable at E3 this week. There are few details about actual gameplay, but it follows a resistance hacker in some way, according to a tweet from Bethesda.

'Fallout 76' is an online survival game

Fallout 76 is entirely online and it's scheduled to come out on November 14th. The game is playable solo, but it was created with a singular vision in mind: building an open-world, survival-based game where every character players encounter is a real person. It relies on small instances, pulling in dozens of other players rather than hundreds or thousands -- it is the apocalypse, after all. Think Destiny, but in a nuclear-ravaged, retro-futuristic wasteland. This is Bethesda's latest entry in the post-apocalyptic Fallout franchise and it's the biggest game yet -- four times bigger than Fallout 4, in fact. Bethesda shared the release date and fresh details during its E3 2018 media briefing.

BJ's legacy lives on in the next iteration of Bethesda's Wolfenstein franchise. Set in 1980, players fight as Jessica and Sophia Blazkowicz, the twin daughters of Anya & BJ - one a weapons expert, the other a bare-knuckle brawler. They're tasked with finding their father, who has gone missing in occupied Paris, as well as making life hell for the 4th Reich. The game is slated for release later this year alongside a VR spinoff, Wolfenstein Cyberpilot.

Bethesda and developer Arkane Studios aren't done with Prey. Not by a long-shot. The pair just announced an intriguing set of downloadable content for the single-player 2017 sci-fi game, including a multiplayer mode and roguelike pack. The latter, Mooncrash, is out today and enemy encounters change every time you play. So is a free update that adds two new difficulty modes (one for folks who want to explore, and another for those who feel the game wasn't hard enough already). Mooncrash tasks you to take repeat runs through a lunar base, unlocking new characters, building on the original game's narrative.

Once you're done replaying Doom on Switch, what's next? How about a proper sequel? After relaunching the series to critical acclaim (and commercial success), Doom Eternal takes the series further. Imagine a stronger protagonist, twice as many demons (apparently) and well, even more we hope. Alas, that's all we've heard for now. Take a look at the teaser below, and if you're wanting more, you'll have to wait for QuakeCon, which kicks off on August 9th.

You'll be able to explore Avalanche Studios' Rage 2 starting sometime next spring. There's a new trailer featuring a lot of shooting, more of the game's open world and some Destiny-ish super powers like a ground slam that knocks enemies off their feet. We're still waiting to hear if John Goodman will reprise his role from the first game.

Bethesda's Todd Howard showed up during Microsoft's E3 media briefing this morning, teasing that Fallout 76's West Virginia would be the biggest game world in the series yet. Now it's time for Howard to put his money where his mouth is, and actually show us the game. Good thing then that Bethesda has its own media briefing to do just that and more, right? The show starts at 9:30 PM Eastern and we'll be covering it live. Of course, if you aren't in Los Angeles to attend for yourself, you can watch the keynote on this very page, via that streaming window embedded below.

While all eyes were on Microsoft's E3 stage for its expected announcement of Gears of War 5, the publisher also introduced a pair of new games in the franchise: A Funko Pop-branded mobile title and a turn-based tactics game. Unfortunately, we don't know much about the aptly-titled Gears Tactics -- except that it will come exclusively to PC.

Finally, we have our first proper look at Cyberpunk 2077. We've known for some time that Witcher 3 developer CD Projekt Red is working on a new role-playing game set in a dystopian future. Beyond a brief teaser trailer, however, the studio has shown and said little about the title. That all changed today, however. A new trailer for Cyberpunk 2077 was shown at the end of Microsoft's E3 press conference, revealing a high-tech world full of flying cars, holographic ads and robot wrestling. There was no gameplay, however — today's footage, while in-engine, was purely cinematic.

Microsoft is working on its own game streaming service

Microsoft isn't going to let Sony's PlayStation Now go unanswered. The company has announced that it's developing its own game streaming service, which promises "console-quality gaming on any device." In other words, expect Xbox-level visuals and gameplay on everything from your laptop to your phone. It'll take advantage of the company's experience with AI to achieve that goal. There's no mention of a release date or even a name, but it's on the way -- and that's all that matters right now.

The Naruto Shippuden, One Piece, Death Note and DragonBall universes collide in the best way possible in Bandai Namco's newest fighting game, Jump Force. Players will be able to form three-character squads, pulling from a stable of iconic characters spanning half a century of Japanese Weekly Shonen Jump manga titles, to beat the snot out of a variety of marquee villains from their respective series. The game is slated for release at some point in 2019 for the Xbox One, PS4 and PC via Steam.

In 'Dying Light 2,' your choices determine your path to survival

Among the truckload of world premieres at today's Xbox E3 event was the debut of Dying Light 2. The first-person apocalyptic survival sequel is equal parts parkour and zombies. This time, everything in the game changes based on your decisions, so you'll need to choose wisely while trying to stay alive. For example, you can choose to free up a water control point to help a nearby city or team up with people you meet rather than killing them. Depending on what you choose, what comes next in the game will be much different.

'Just Cause 4' parachutes in December 4th

Square Enix brought more than just Kingdom Hearts to Microsoft's pre-E3 2018 press conference -- there's also Just Cause 4. Rico is back, once again parachuting into some disastrous warzone with both guns and attitude in tow. The quick trailer showed off some new-gen powered gameplay with plenty of driving, shooting, explosions and impressive weather effects as our hero plunged directly into a tornado. The game is scheduled for release December 4th on Xbox One, PS4 and PC, so at least that's one title we won't be waiting until Q1 2019 for. While a gameplay trailer showed off Just Cause 4 at the event, you should look below for the "Welcome to Just Cause 4" video that goes in-depth with developers from Avalanche Studios (which is also behind the 80s-themed robot shooter Generation Zero) explaining what's new this time around. This time the game takes place on the home turf of a group that has been featured in previous games called The Black Hand. There will be four separate biomes included, and the concept of a "force of nature" plays a massive role. Rico's grapple hook is, of course, included, but there are even more physics-based tricks for players to mess around with this time.
