Google has launched a new feature for Meet that can make sure your video and audio are working properly before entering a meeting. While you can already check your environment for anything you don’t want the other party to see in a call’s “Ready to join?” video preview window, Meet’s new “green room” feature can do more than that. Now, when you join a meeting, you can click the “Check your audio and video” button in the preview window to confirm that your peripheral devices and network are working properly before going in.

Google launches Meet breakout rooms for small group discussions
Huge online classes can be overwhelming, not just for teachers but also for students who learn better when interacting with others. To help solve that problem, Google has launched a new Meet feature called “breakout rooms,” which would give educators a way to divide participants into smaller groups during video calls. At the moment, the feature is exclusively available to Enterprise for Education customers, but the tech giant says it will be available to more users (including Education and standard Enterprise customers) later this year.
Google Meet gets Q&A and poll features for paid customers
Starting October 8th, the video chat service is adding Q&A and polls features for paid enterprise customers, according to a post on the G Suite Updates blog. Q&A allows those hosting or moderating a chat to allow participants to submit questions.

Google expanded Meet’s availability earlier this year to give more people access to the video chat service in the midst of coronavirus-related lockdowns. The tech giant didn’t just make it available to everyone with a Gmail account, though, it also made its premium features accessible at no cost until September 30th. In a post announcing the extension, Meet Group Product Manager Samir Pradhan said Google wants to “continue helping those who rely on Meet to stay in touch” over the holiday season, especially since not everyone can travel to be with their families and friends.
