Well, this week lasted years. While we weren't being bludgeoned by the cantankerous Kavanaugh confirmation hearings, we were learning about how 50 million Facebook users had their accounts hacked, that Elon Musk is being sued by the SEC for his Twitter posts (the ones about privatizing Tesla, not the ones wherein he libels a rescue diver), and that Red Dead Redemption 2 will rustle the remainder of your hard drive's free space.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is finally dropping next month, and Sony has revealed some of what's in store with the pre-order launch of its PS4 Pro Bundle. The box refers to a "timed exclusive for 30 days" and mentions online content. We knew PlayStation users were getting some unique content, but this confirms they'll get it ahead of everyone else, too.

After almost two years of teases and a few delays, we finally have our first look at how Red Dead Redemption 2 will actually play come October 26th. The gameplay trailer is directly in the vein of the videos Rockstar released in the lead-up to Grand Theft Auto V and the first Red Dead Redemption. Today's footage is a high-level overview showing off the world and its inhabitants. Towns and forests look bigger and more expansive than ever, with gorgeous mountain ranges, dank swamps and plenty in between.

The amount of people ready to drop a serious amount of cash on Red Dead Redemption 2 might have just increased by quite a bit. VG247 is reporting that Rockstar Games is preparing to launch the much-hyped title on the PC, as well as the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The site found a LinkedIn profile, which Engadget has independently verified, of a developer who worked for Rockstar for almost a decade. Their resume includes a reference to Red Dead Redemption 2 for "PS4/XBox1/PC."

So much so that franchises that typically are released in November are getting bumped to October, in advance of RDR 2's debut on the 26th. Developer/publisher Rockstar Games is starting the hype train ahead of E3, spilling details on the game's fancy special edition, ultimate edition and collector's box sets.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is still over six months away at this point, but we've got a new trailer to dissect in the meantime. The trailer is all about narrative and setting a tone, but looking closer, developer Rockstar Games tucked a handful of gameplay clues into the 128-second video. Fist-fights, train robberies and sitting down for a stage show all look like side-activities for when you need a break from taking missions in The Dead West.

Red Dead Redemption 2 will be released October 26th. That gives you just under nine months to round up a posse for Rockstar Games' next adventure in the Dead West. The developer apologized for the delays -- last May it promised RDR 2 would be out this spring, and before that, it was scheduled for Fall 2017 -- saying that it's using the extra time to add some polish to the game. Rockstar didn't have much else to share, but teased that more information will be coming soon. Until then, enjoy the new screenshots below.

'Red Dead Redemption 2' trailer introduces a new anti-hero

While the original Red Dead Redemption was about a wistful cowboy trying to make things right, its sequel sounds a bit different. In Red Dead Redemption 2, you're playing as Arthur Morgan, an outlaw, who along with his Van Der Linde gang, seems out to rob pretty much anyone who crosses his path. The biggest takeaways from the trailer (embedded below) are just how good Morgan's face looks and the vastness of the wilderness. And, really, that's about it for the 90 second clip. Spring 2018 isn't that far away though, and hopefully the next trailer will either dive further into Morgan's backstory or show off actual gameplay.

Apparently, 2017 ain't big enough for Red Dead Redemption 2. The sequel is now slated to hit PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in spring 2018, rather than its initial release window of fall 2017. Rockstar Games announced the delay in a blog post, alongside a handful of fresh apology screenshots. "This outlaw epic set across the vast and unforgiving American heartland will be the first Rockstar game created from the ground up for the latest generation of console hardware, and some extra time is necessary to ensure that we can deliver the best experience possible for our fans," Rockstar says. "We are very sorry for any disappointment this delay causes, but we are firm believers in delivering a game only when it is ready."

Grand Theft Auto developer Rockstar has been teasing a new Red Dead game in recent days, and we now know what it is: Red Dead Redemption 2. The third game in the series, it's described as "an epic tale of life in America's unforgiving heartland." Where the story will pickup from is unknown. Given the events of the first Redemption, it's likely to be a prequel. The only promotional imagery we have so far is of a band of seven characters against a sunset -- with the central figure looking a lot like the series' protagonist, John Marston. But if it is a prequel, why call it Redemption 2? Are we maybe looking at a relative, or an all-new character? We'll hopefully have some answers on October 20th, when a trailer drops at 11AM ET. As well as the expected single-player mode, Rockstar says "the game's vast and atmospheric world will also provide the foundation for a brand new online multiplayer experience." The game is due out in fall 2017 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One -- there is no mention of PC support anywhere in the promotional material.
