November is a colossal month in the streaming ecosystem, with heavyweight newcomers Apple TV+ and Disney+ both making their debuts. Netflix doesn't plan to go quietly into the night though, as it has plenty of major titles coming to its platform over the month. Most notably, Martin Scorcese's latest mob epic The Irishman will hit Netflix November 27th -- just in time for Thanksgiving weekend. Also on the docket are The King, starring Timothée Chalamet (November 1st), and season two of The End of the F***ing World (November 5th).

After almost two years since the last installment dropped, Netflix has revealed a release date for season three of The Crown: November 17th. It will chart the Royal Family's history between 1964 and 1977, and touch on events such as the Beatles' ascendancy to superstardom.

Just a few years ago it was still novel to see Emmy winners coming from internet services instead of cable or network TV, but now it's just a part of the landscape. Netflix notably edged out HBO this year when it came to nominations, but now that all the trophies have been handed out they ended up tied with 23 wins each.

Britain's Academy of Film and Television Arts held its annual celebration of the small screen, and Netflix was expected to win big. The streaming service was in line for six awards, with The Crown and Black Mirror both being nominated for three each. Unfortunately, it wasn't to be, and only one of the sextet won a gong on the night: The Crown's Vanessa Kirby, who won best supporting actress.

The nominations for the BAFTA (British Academy of Film and Television Arts) Awards are out, and like last year, Netflix has scored six nominations. Three are for The Crown, which received nominations for best drama, Claire Foy as best lead actress and Vanessa Kirby as best supporting actress. Black Mirror, which was originally a British show that Netflix purchased the rights for, also received three nominations. These were for best lead actor, Joe Cole in "Hang the DJ"; best supporting actor, Jimmi Simpson in "USS Callister" and best single drama.

With each new awards season, more streaming series and movies make their way to the list of nominees. In fact, one category at tonight's 24th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards, Female Actor in a Drama Series, was comprised entirely of nominees from Hulu and Netflix shows. At the end of this evening's soirée though, the only winner among the streaming fold was from that very category. Mark down another accolade for Netflix.

Apple is finally putting its money where its mouth is, setting aside $1 billion to pursue the original programming agenda it's been making so much noise about it recent times. In June, the company poached Jamie Erlicht and Zack Van Amburg -- the TV execs behind Breaking Bad and The Crown -- from Sony, noting at the time that it "had exciting plans in store for customers". Now, according to the Wall Street Journal, Apple has opened its war chest to make those plans a reality.

What should have been a night to remember became one to forget for Netflix yesterday. The company started the BAFTA (British Academy of Film and Television Arts) TV awards with six nominations — five for The Crown and one for Stranger Things — but walked away with nothing. Amazon and Transparent had a similarly poor evening, losing to The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story in the international category.

Despite producing a long list of critically-acclaimed TV shows, Netflix's original programming has yet to be rewarded by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA). The streaming giant has received Academy nominations in the past and recently scooped a BAFTA film award for Ava DuVernay's prison documentary 13th, but so far a British TV accolade has proved elusive. Next month, however, Netflix will travel to Royal Festival Hall full of hope, because today it found out that The Crown is dominating this year's list with five nominations.

If you need more lavish British dramas on your Netflix queue, you'll have the company's first UK series to binge watch on November 4. The Crown comes from Peter Morgan (The Queen, Frost/Nixon), and it'll focus on the reign of Queen Elizabeth II and the royal family. It's an ambitious project by Netflix -- the first season reportedly cost $156 million to produce, its most expensive series yet. Claire Foy (Wolf Hall) will play the young queen, and former Doctor Who star Matt Smith will co-star as Prince Philip.
