Kari Paul

• Kari has extensive trial coverage experience, most notably those of Ross Ulbricht of the Silk Road darknet marketplace, and Elizabeth Holmes of failed blood testing startup Theranos.
• She helped popularize the term "goblin mode" while covering internet and digital culture at The Guardian, which was later named Oxford's Word of the Year.
• Kari recently spent two years in Paris, France obtaining an MFA in new media art and learning how to use the technology tools she has long covered journalistically in her artistic practice.

Experience

Kari has spent more than a decade as a technology reporter, most recently at the Guardian where she covered privacy, policy, and cybersecurity, and breaking news. Before that, she reported on technology and consumer trends for MarketWatch (Dow Jones) and covered cryptocurrency and privacy for Motherboard at VICE. As a freelancer, she has written for BBC, the Wall Street Journal, NYMag, and others about digital media and culture. Throughout her career, she has maintained a fascination in how emerging technologies affect how we live and interact with one another.

Education

Kari attended the University of Missouri where she received bachelor's degrees in international print & digital journalism and international studies. She later obtained a master's degree at Paris College of Art in transdisciplinary new media.
