Final Fantasy XV is about to make it's long, long anticipated debut tomorrow, so get ready for the hype (and merchandising). We've already seen a FF XV branded Audi A8, of all things, and Sony has now revealed a limited edition Final Fantasy XV Walkman, headphone and portable speaker. The A-Series Walkman with Hi-Res audio support comes with etched pixel versions of Noctis and Co. on the back, special icons and a fancy box. It starts at 33,880 yen ($300 or so) for the 16GB model.

Square Enix's long-awaited next entry in the 30-year-old Final Fantasy franchise arrives November 29th on PS4 and Xbox One, but first up is this promotional tie-in from Audi. In the run up to Final Fantasy XV , Sony Pictures released the all-CG rendered Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy XV movie back in July, and it featured a special version of the 2017 Audi R8 called the Star of Lucis.

What were you doing 10 years ago? Try to think back. Maybe you had a different job or lived in another apartment. I was still a college student, waiting tables at a pub in my spare time. It feels like a lifetime ago. Now, consider this: Back then, Japanese composer Yoko Shimomura had just been asked to work on Final Fantasy XV. She wrote the first track in 2006, while it was still called Final Fantasy Versus XIII. Ever since, she's been waiting. Waiting and working through 10 years of tumultuous development, for the moment that fans could hear her work as it was intended -- as part of the full game.

While Final Fantasy XV's decade-long development doesn't beat Duke Nukem's excessive run, it's still a hell of a long time for another part of one of gaming's biggest, longest-running franchises. And it's still not here. However, at the Tokyo Game Show, I got what is possibly the last taster before the main course: a lengthy 30-minute play-through that, barring some brutal initial loading times, felt like a finished game.

Did you look on wistfully as Sony Japan unveiled a special edition slim PS4 to mark the launch of Final Fantasy XV? You don't have to anymore. Sony has confirmed that the console will reach GameStop stores in North America on November 29th for $449 US, or $549 Canadian. In the UK, it'll launch on the same day at GAME for £330. Besides the conspicuous moon decal on the system, you're getting a 1TB hard drive, a branded DualShock 4 controller, Square Enix's role-playing game (plus downloadable extras) and the Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy XV movie on Blu-ray. It's a tempting deal if you can't get enough Final Fantasy into your life, although we have to ask: do you get this, or would it be wiser to spring for the more powerful PS4 Pro plus a separate copy of the game?

In a never-ending tale of limited editions, spin-off movies, anime and more, the makers of Final Fantasy XV have also laid claim to the first limited-edition thinner, lighter PS4. The "Luna" edition (did the giant moon decal give it away?) will land alongside the game (finally) on 29th November in Japan, priced at 40,000 yen -- the same as the higher-capacity version of the slimline console. Sony also announced two new Vita colors, launching (in Japan for now) on December 1st. Take a peek at those after the break.

If you're eager to play Super Time Force developer Capybara Games' latest title, Below, you're going to have to wait a bit longer. The atmospheric and ethereal indie game has been delayed once again, this time with no new release date. Below was originally supposed to come out this summer for Xbox One and PC, but Capy needs a little more time to make sure it meets the studio's high standards.

  • 'Final Fantasy XV' delayed to November 29th

Noctis and friends have put their bromance-filled road trip on hold. Square Enix has confirmed today that Final Fantasy XV, the long-awaited JRPG once known as Final Fantasy Versus XIII, will now launch on November 29th, rather than September 30th. The two-month delay will make room for an update that was going to be offered as a "day-one patch." Director Hajime Tabata believes the downloadable would have been unfair to players with poor internet access, which is why he's decided to wait and include it with the main disc. The extra time, Square Enix promises, will also be used to "conduct quality testing" and add "further polish."

Final Fantasy XV has to be perfect. After a decade of development hell, a name change from Versus XIII to XV, a complete mechanical overhaul and a director swap, die-hard series fans aren't just hungry for the game; they're reeling. Many players who were excited about Final Fantasy Versus XIII as teenagers remain interested in Final Fantasy XV as adults. After all, the Final Fantasy series debuted in 1987 and played a pivotal role in plenty of fans' young lives. But as the years have dragged on, a ripple of discontent has nudged against this fierce loyalty. In the decade of delays, some longtime players have simply declared the franchise dead.

We have a release date , this is not a drill. Square Enix put on an entire soiree last night to preview the heck out of what we'll be getting come September 30th. It wasn't enough to merely say when it's launching, but also reveal a companion anime, full-length movie and two limited edition versions of the game. There's also a new platinum demo, available now. But before you play that, here's all the important bits, if you just had to sleep.

Final Fantasy XV hits PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on September 30th, Square Enix announced during its Uncovered live event in Los Angeles. The release date may not be a surprise for everyone, considering it leaked a tad early, but this announcement marks official confirmation. A new teaser for FFXV launches tonight, called Platinum Demo, and it's free to download on PS4 and Xbox One. PC players, you're out of luck -- for now. FFXV director Hajime Tabata told Engadget that the studio isn't currently working on a PC version of the game. But, Tabata said he was "aware of the big call for a PC version."

Square Enix is calling today's big event in Los Angeles Uncovered: Final Fantasy XV, so prepare for some serious revelations. The game has been in development for a decade, and it hasn't been a particularly smooth ride. It was originally called Final Fantasy Versus XIII and it was under the direction of longtime Final Fantasy contributor Tetsuya Nomura, but more than half-way through development it changed names and directors. Final Fantasy XV as we know it is directed by Hajime Tabata, the director of Final Fantasy Type-0, Agito and Type-0 HD. Final Fantasy XV has been a long time coming and today we might figure out exactly (and officially) when, how and why it will finally arrive. Watch the Uncovered event live with us, right here at 7PM PT (10PM ET).

Final Fantasy XV has been in development for what seems like an eternity. But being New Year's Eve (or Day, depending on where you live), changes are afoot: Final Fantasy XV and its all-dude bro'd-trip will release in 2016. The news comes by way of a Square Enix blog post written by none other than the game's director, Hajime Tabata. "In development, previous phases required wisdom and strength," he writes. "However, moving toward the final phase will focus on effort and willpower." Sure!

  • Why Final Fantasy XV's main playable characters are all men

Final Fantasy XV's playable demo confirmed suspicions that the long-awaited game's core playable characters are all, well, men. For those wondering, even just a bit, why the creators came to that decision when previous main titles featured mixed-gender teams, well here's your explanation. FFXV director Hajime Tabata sat down for an interview with GameSpot, where he revealed his reasons and shed light on the issue. Apparently, he wanted characters whose actions make you think "boys will be boys." He also believes that "an all-male party feels almost more approachable for players," and that even "one female in the group will change their [the four best bros'] behavior."

Final Fantasy XV is playable right now and that seems impossible. Even just as Episode Duscae, the small demo included with the newly released Final Fantasy Type-0, it feels like a phantom. Final Fantasy Versus XIII was announced in 2006 as a PlayStation 3-exclusive side story to the impending Final Fantasy XIII. After years of trailers, delays and a slow trickle of art from the game -- a song from the soundtrack showed up on Yoko Shimomura's greatest hits in 2008, for crying out loud -- it was retitled Final Fantasy XV in 2013 and announced for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Now it's partially here. Nine years after that first announcement, we're digging into the expansive Episode Duscae on JXE Streams.

Nobuo Uematsu is distinguished amongst game soundtrack composers not just because of his work for Squaresoft in the '80s and '90s or his lustrous mustache. He's one of the few songwriters responsible for the way video games sound across the board, influencing other creators over 30 years. Square's Final Fantasy series, on which Uematsu was sole or primary composer for the first 10 games, molded how storytelling in games should sound. The synthesized minor key melody of series theme "Prelude," the ambient wash of Final Fantasy VII's "Opening/Bombing Mission," and hundreds of other songs are landmarks in gaming's aural landscape.

When Square Enix's Tetsuya Nomura made a cameo at Sony's E3 press conference, we expected to hear an update on Final Fantasy Versus XIII -- we were wrong, but not disappointed. Instead of the heavily anticipated spinoff, Nomura revealed Final Fantasy XV to the world, promising the title for the PlayStation 4. It was hard to tell from the action packed trailer, but XV seems to to be a departure from the series' traditional turn-based combat, looking more to us like an action title than an RPG. Speaking of highly anticipated Square-Enix titles that eschew the RPG norm, Nomura followed the announcement with a trailer for Kingdom Hearts III. Unfortunately, neither title was given a specific release date, only the promise that both of them could be enjoyed on the PlayStation 4. Eh, we'll take it.
