Microsoft, where's my 2TB Xbox One X?
Today at Gamescom Microsoft trotted out a bevy of new Xbox hardware/software bundles, as promised. There were eight (!) in total, with the One X getting the lion's share of them. Both the One S and One X bundles share a common theme: 1 terabyte of internal storage. First-party games optimized for the One X, meaning they feature 4K resolution and HDR video, are big, and several reach 100GB. That'a over 10 percent of available internal storage per. It doesn't take having too many of those before you have to start playing virtual Tetris with game downloads.
Amazon turned its ‘The Grand Tour’ TV series into a racing game
If you've enjoyed The Grand Tour on Amazon, here's some synergy you probably didn't see coming: The ecommerce giant's in-house studio is making the show into a video game. Before you ask, yes, hosts Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, and James May lend their voices to the title. But don't expect a one-and-done racing title. The game will be released piecemeal on a weekly basis during Season 3, with each episode featuring cars, locations and content from the show.
‘Dark Souls Trilogy’ collection is coming to PS4 and Xbox One
The critically-acclaimed Dark Souls series is getting a three-disc bundle release for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 later this year. Dark Souls Trilogy will include the remastered original, Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin and Dark Souls III: The Fire Fades Edition. Publisher Bandai Namco is promising "all DLC content" too, making this a pretty definitive collection for fans of the FromSoftware franchise. It's an obvious move, though one that could rile some players — Dark Souls: Remastered was only released for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC in May, and the Switch version comes out on October 19th, the same day as Dark Souls Trilogy.
'Devil May Cry 5' hits Xbox One, PS4 and PC on March 8th, 2019
Devil May Cry 5 is due to land on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC on March 8th, 2019, Capcom announced today during the special Gamescom edition of the Inside Xbox livestream. Devil May Cry 5 is the sequel to Devil May Cry 4, which came out in 2008, and it marks the return of series shepherd Hideaki Itsuno as director. Ninja Theory briefly took over the franchise with DmC: Devil May Cry in 2013, and while Devil May Cry 5 takes some styling tips from that game, it doesn't follow its storyline directly.
The latest Xbox One gamepad innovation: trigger grips
As sure as the sun sets, Microsoft spent some time at Gamescom talking about a new variant of its killer Xbox One gamepad. This time, it's one themed around PlayerUnknown's BattleGrounds. But rather than just being a superficial upgrade as is the norm, this one features a functional embellishment too: a grippy texture on the tops of the triggers. Cool. There's also a subtle digital camo pattern replete with scuffs and scrapes from battle. The metallic D-pad shows a similar kind of wear, and there's a blue-zone-esque circle around the left thumbstick. It ships in October and pre-orders are open right now.
'Shenmue III' makes its long-delayed debut on August 27th, 2019
The long-awaited, crowdfunded Shenmue III was originally supposed to arrive by December 2017, but that clearly never came to pass -- delays have pushed it back two years. The developers at Ys Net appear ready to hold their ground, though. They've announced that the third installment in Ryo's martial arts saga will launch on August 27th, 2019. The studio hasn't shed much more light on the story in the process, but the accompanying trailer (below) reiterates the prophecy that Ryo and Ling Shenhua would join together on a "rocky path."
'Until Dawn' creators return with 'The Dark Pictures Anthology'
Until Dawn developer Supermassive Games is back with another branching horror game, but it's breaking from tradition in more ways than one. It's launching The Dark Pictures Anthology, a collection of self-contained titles that touch on various horror genres. There's no (known) connection to the Until Dawn universe, and this won't be a PlayStation-only franchise -- it'll be available on Xbox One and PC as well.
'Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night' delayed until 2019
Things were looking rosy for the upcoming release of Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night -- the game had even gotten as far as a private beta demo. But, citing similar reasons to its previous delay, the team at ArtPlay has announced it'll be held back again, this time until somewhere in 2019.

Sony has some colorful new DualShock 4 pads for your PS4
The DualShock 4 wireless controller has been kicking around for a while now, so it was only a matter of time before PlayStation did something to give it a little marketing boost. And what's the easiest way to do that? New colors, of course. Joining the already extensive color lineup are four new schemes: Berry Blue, Sunset Orange, Blue Camo and Copper. They'll be available across retailers in the US and Canada from September, at $65 USD / $75 CAD each. Take a look at the new colors below.
Watch the first trailer for Bandai Namco's painterly WWI adventure
When 11-11: Memories Retold was announced, it promised a war drama rife with the "emotional" human experience. Now, Bandai Namco, Wallace & Gromit's Aardman Animation Studios and DigixArt have released the first trailer for the narrative adventure. It introduces you to the two main characters from opposing sides during WW1 and shows you the game's 3D painterly style and beautiful color palette. One of the main characters is a German soldier named Kurt voiced by Sebastian Koch (Steven Spielberg's Bridge of Spies) who joined the war to find his son who's missing in action. The other is Harry, a Canadian photographer played by Elijah Wood, who'll show you the harsh realities of war through his lens.
'Stormdivers' is a battle royale game with superpowers
Back in April, Resogun and Super Stardust HD developer Housemarque teased a mysterious multiplayer project called Stormdivers. The reveal, though, showed little beyond a forest locale, some man-made structures and the promise of "hard flying and heavy hitting gameplay." If you've been waiting for more information, good news -- the indie developer has released a new trailer today showing off the game's battle royale-inspired combat. It reveals a host of weapons, including machetes, assault weapons and rocket launchers, as well as futuristic jetpacks, portable shields, and some fantastical powers including invisibility and lightning-fast dashes.
Logitech's wireless G Pro mouse is built for esports
Wireless gaming mice are anathema to esports pros for a reason -- when you're that skilled, even a modest amount of lag can throw you off. Logitech is betting that it can fulfill their dreams, though. It's launching a wireless version of its G Pro mouse that was designed for (and with the help of) competitive gamers. It draws on both Logitech's increasingly familiar Lightspeed tech for near-zero lag and supports PowerPlay wireless charging, but it also touts the company's high-precision 16,000DPI sensor and a 2.8oz weight that makes it easier to flick around in the heat of a tournament.
'Life is Strange 2' trailer follows two young brothers on the run
The studio Dontnod Entertainment previously revealed that the sequel to its highly-acclaimed adventure game Life is Strange would debut with its first chapter on September 27th, 2018. But aside from some intriguing teaser footage, we didn't know what much about the game. Get ready, fans: An official trailer has dropped, and we've got a new pair of protagonists to follow and root for.
‘Dark Souls’ studio’s 'Sekiro' arrives March 22nd, 2019
With its difficult but mechanically tight Dark Souls and Bloodborne games, FromSoftware has developed a devoted fanbase eager for the studio's next adventure. At Microsoft's E3 event, the company dropped a first look at the upcoming Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, which applies FromSoftware's signature gloomy horror to 1500s Japan. Today, the game's publisher Activision announced a release date: March 22nd, 2019.
Dell’s new gaming monitors focus on high refresh rates
Gamers that want a top-level monitor but don't have Alienware money lying around should take a look at Dell's forthcoming monitor line-up. The 24inch FHD and 27inch QHD models boast pretty high refresh rates -- 144Hz and 155Hz respectively -- and low 1ms response times, which means smooth gameplay and minimal input lag.
Dell's Alienware desktops get upgraded with NVIDIA's RTX graphics
Dell is wasting no time keeping up with NVIDIA's latest graphics cards. At Gamescom today, the company announced that its Alienware Aurora tower and Area 51 flagship desktop will get NVIDIA's new GeForce RTX GPUs, including the high-end RX 2080 Ti. Don't expect any design changes for the rigs, though -- these updates just involve plugging in the new cards. With the extra power, Dell says the refreshed systems will be able to tackle 8K and 12K gaming. Talk about overkill. You'll be able to preorder the new Alienware desktops in September.
NVIDIA's GeForce RTX 2080 leapfrogs the 1080 Ti for $800
NVIDIA has unveiled its new Turing-powered mainstream gaming performance graphics card, the GeForce RTX 2080. As rumored, it's built using 12-nanometer manufacturing and packs 8GB of cutting-edge GDDR6 memory, offering 14 Gbps speeds, 2944 CUDA cores and a 256-bit memory interface. With those kind of specs, it provides a huge boost over the current GTX 1080, and should even outperform the GTX 1080 Ti.
'Transference' demo gives a taste of Elijah Wood's PSVR thriller
The Elijah Wood-backed mind-bender Transference is due to arrive September 18th, but you don't have to wait until then (or spend hard-earned cash) to see if it lives up early buzz. Ubisoft and SpectreVision have released a prequel demo, The Walter Test Case, for both PlayStation VR and regular PS4 users. The title has you living through the 1993 experiment that sets up the main game, making you experience the "digitally recreated" memories of a PTSD patient while tackling puzzles in a mysterious apartment. Suffice it to say this won't be a walk in the park.
NVIDIA's $1,199 RTX 2080 Ti is the fastest GeForce card ever
You've seen the leaks, but today at Gamescom NVIDIA officially announced its new line of RTX video cards. And, thanks to the company's new Turing hardware, they're just as crazy powerful as you'd expect. The top of the line is the RTX 2080 Ti, which packs in 4,352 CUDA cores, just a bit less than the Quadro RTX 6,000's 4,608 cores. And while it has the same 11GB of RAM and 352-bit memory bus as the GTX 1080 Ti, the new model uses GDDR6 memory, allowing for higher memory bandwidth of 616 Gbps. That's a lot of specs to swallow, but it all basically means this is NVIDIA's fastest consumer GPU by far. The RTX 2080 Ti is available for pre-order today for a whopping $1,199, and it will ship on September 20th. But you can save a bit by going for the $999 standard edition when that's available. There are the other 20-series cards to consider, like the $799 RTX 2080 and $599 RTX 2070 Founders Editions. The standard versions of those cards will run for $699 and $499, respectively, but you'll have to wait a bit to grab those.
