There's just one episode left of Game of Thrones and the creators of the HBO phenomenon are looking ahead to a project with an even bigger canvas: Star Wars. Disney CEO Bob Iger said today at the MoffettNathanson Media & Communications Summit the next movie in the franchise (after this year's The Rise of Skywalker) will be from David Benioff and D.B. Weiss.

What's on TV: 'Game of Thrones' finale, 'Rage 2' and 'Fleabag'

This weekend, the Game of Thrones series wraps up its run on HBO. Still, there are other TV events occurring this week, including the season finale of Barry that will air directly after Thrones. US audiences can tune into the second season of Phoebe Waller-Bridge's Fleabag as it debuts on Amazon Prime, while Hulu premieres its new show from George Clooney, Catch-22. Netflix is hardly falling behind in the streaming wars, with See You Yesterday, season two of The Rain and 1994 all set to premiere this week. For fans of sports there's NHL and NBA playoffs plus the NBA Zion Williamson lottery on Tuesday night, and ESPN2 will air the Overwatch League's All-Star game on Wednesday. Otherwise, gamers can check out Rage 2 or Castlevania Anniversary Collection. Look after the break to check out each day's highlights, including trailers and let us know what you think (or what we missed).

HBO edited that coffee cup out of 'Game of Thrones'

If you hadn't already heard, HBO accidentally left a coffee cup in a shot from episode four of Game of Thrones' final season -- millions of TV viewers learned that Daenerys can't function before she's had her latte. However, you won't have much luck trying to revisit that production blunder online. HBO has digitally removed the cup from the episode on digital services like HBO Go, leaving an empty spot on the table where the caffeination once stood.

HBO isn't happy about Trump's Game of Thrones-inspired tweets

With the Mueller report finally making its way into the hands of the public, President Donald Trump was quick to claim victory and declare an end to the collusion and obstruction of justice scandals that have loomed over his presidency over the last two years. He did so in typically abrasive fashion, with a tweet aimed at his "haters and the radical left Democrats." However, HBO isn't too happy he mimicked Game of Thrones imagery with the use of "game over" and a font similar to one used in the show.

'Game of Thrones' premiere was pirated nearly 55 million times in one day

It won't surprise you to hear that Game of Thrones is a pirate magnet, but the sheer scale of that piracy may be reaching new heights. The analytics company MUSO has determined that people pirated the show's season eight premiere just shy of 55 million times in the first 24 hours. About 76.6 percent of those viewers relied on bootleg streams, while the rest were split between downloads (12.2 percent), public torrents (10.8 percent) and private torrents (0.5 percent). Just where people pirated the episode may be the most interesting part, though -- it speaks volumes about the limitations of TV and sreaming services.

'Game of Thrones' season 8 showrunners interview: 'This is where the story ends' James Hibberd, Entertainment Weekly Winter is here. HBO's powerhouse Game of Thrones returns for its final season this weekend, signaling the beginning of the end (at least for now) of the stories of Westeros. Entertainment Weekly sat down with the showrunners for season 8, David Benioff and Dan Weiss, who are also the masterminds behind much of the show's narrative arc. The pair promises they'll be in an "undisclosed location" when the final episode airs, "turning off our phones and opening various bottles."

The Roku Channel has added HBO to its list of premium subscriptions available on its streaming platform. Those who own a Roku device can now sample a 7-day free trial of HBO on the Roku Channel, after which it will cost $14.99 a month. It's the same pricing as the HBO Now standalone package and the HBO add-on on other streaming platforms like Hulu and Amazon Prime Video. Timing is perfect for those who want to catch the final season premiere of Game of Thrones, which debuts on April 14th.

How could HBO outdo its massive Westworld role-playing experience from last year's SXSW? By asking Game of Thrones fans to prove their devotion by drawing blood. Bleed for the Throne, the network's massive blood drive in partnership with the Red Cross, is one of the most elaborate marketing stunts at this year's show. By taking part at SXSW, or other drive locations around the US, fans are also entered into a contest to attend the Game of Thrones premiere in New York City later this year.

Amid a wave of announcements Monday, Hulu revealed The Handmaid's Tale will return on June 5th. As such, it will won't compete at this year's Emmys. It lost out to Game of Thrones the last time the shows went head to head, and the final season of HBO's show starts in April (though Hulu said moving the premiere from its typical early spring slot to June wasn't specifically about Emmy competition).

  • Watch how a CGI-heavy 'Game of Thrones' zombie battle was made

(Warning: spoilers ahead.) The spectacular Game of Thrones 'Hardhome' battle scene with white walkers, zombie-like wights and wildings is pretty VFX-heavy, judging by a new video from effects house El Ranchito. Highlights include Jon Snow slashing a walker into shards of crystal, battle scenes with the giant Wun Wun, and wights -- so many hordes of wights. Despite having TV's highest budget, the show doesn't rely overly on digital effects, using them sparingly on gore and dragons, we imagine. However, Snow actor Kit Harrington said that the 'Hardhome' battle "is so CGI-heavy it's unlike anything I've ever done on Thrones."

The fifth season has only just drawn to a close, but during its run, the HBO fantasy series managed to smash its own piracy records and break a few broadcast milestones too. In fact, the season finale became the most popular "entertainment programme ever" on Sky, reaching a record 3.1 million homes on June 15th.

HBO has made a habit of bringing a bit of Westeros to SXSW attendees. Last year, a virtual reality experience took folks to the top of the 700-foot ice wall defended by Jon Snow and the Night's Watch. This year, Game of Thrones fans get to turn a photo of themselves into a digital collage of swords, crow feathers and stag antlers by swinging Arya Stark's wooden practice sword given to her by Syrio Forel.

If you're "lucky" enough to be both an EE mobile and broadband subscriber, chances are you'll own one of the operator's new EE TV set-top boxes. While it essentially operates as a Freeview DVR, it also comes with a couple of notable apps like BBC iPlayer, Demand 5 and YouTube, but pickings are relatively slim. Sky's saw an opportunity for the taking, so it's picked EE customers to be the recipients of its new Now TV app. It'll go live tomorrow, a full month before Game of Thrones returns to screens, allowing you to watch Sky movie and TV content that you can't otherwise get on your EE TV box.

Reports have been pretty consistent that HBO will offer a direct-to-consumer streaming option sometime next year. When that might land and what that might look like, however, have been subject to rampant (and usually unfounded) speculation. Today, at least a little more detail is trickling in. The company is currently planning to launch the service, in some capacity, in April alongside the premiere of season five of Game of Thrones. Though, that timeline is subject to the usual caveats about plans changing and all that jazz. Those plans were revealed in a memo (which you'll find after the break) announcing plans to cancel its own streaming platform project "Maui" and license MLB Advanced's much-lauded tech instead.

Welcome to Joystiq Weekly, a "too long; didn't read" of each week's biggest stories, reviews and original content. Each category's top story is introduced with a reactionary gif, because moving pictures aren't just for The Daily Prophet. Judging by how many uploads of Street Fighter 5's announcement trailer have been pulled, we're thinking Capcom doesn't want us to know about it just yet. Considering it seems to be a PS4 console exclusive, we're wondering if the reveal slipped out ahead of PlayStation Experience, this weekend's gathering in Las Vegas to talk all things PlayStation. We can find out together as the event plays out over the next 48 hours, but PlayStation news isn't the only thing happening this week – The King's Quest series is getting a new entry, we reviewed Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker and Telltale Games' Game Of Thrones, and Managing Editor Susan Arendt explained the Danganronpa series' remarkable conveyance of how depression works. Those and many more stories are waiting for you after the break!
