Even a stellar cast and team of Bojack Horseman producers, led by creator Lisa Hannwalt, couldn't save the animated series Tuca & Bertie from Netflix's axe. The streaming company announced that the series, starting Tiffany Haddish and Ali Wong, would not be back for a second season. "While Tuca & Bertie won't have a second season, we're proud to feature this story on Netflix for years to come," Netflix said in a statement.

Netflix might be ending long-running shows left and right, but there's at least one series surviving the gauntlet. The service has renewed BoJack Horseman for a sixth season, guaranteeing that it will have a run at least as long as House of Cards. There's no mention of a tentative release window, but it's safe to presume new episodes won't come for a while when Netflix only just debuted the fifth season in September.

At this rate, BoJack Horseman is so ubiquitous that it might be harder to avoid the Netflix show than to watch it. Hot on the heels of the Comedy Central deal, Variety has learned that Lionsgate's Debmar-Mercury has secured the rights to sell the first three seasons of the animated series to international TV networks. The most recent seasons should be available later. While this isn't Lionsgate's first Netflix pact (it also sold Orange is the New Black outside the US), it expands a distribution deal that was already rare in the streaming video business.

There have been whispers as early as January that BoJack Horseman could arrive on cable TV -- and after six months, it turns out the syndication rumors were true. Comedy Central has secured the television rights to all five seasons of the Emmy Award nominated black comedy series -- meaning it is no longer a Netflix exclusive.

YouTube Red's upcoming animated series Dallas & Robo is set to premiere on May 30th and it stars Kat Dennings (2 Broke Girls) and pro wrestler -- now actor -- John Cena. Dallas, played by Dennings, is a space trucker who teams up with Cena's Robo -- a cowboy hat-sporting AI robot. In the comedy, the two run into cannibal bikers and rival space truckers as they travel between different worlds on their flame-painted truck.

Amazon taps 'BoJack Horseman' duo for new animated series

Amazon hasn't had much of an answer to Netflix's numerous animated shows, but that should change in the near future -- and it's even 'borrowing' from Netflix in the process. The internet giant has ordered its first half-hour animated series, Undone, with BoJack Horseman alumni Raphael Bob-Waksberg and Kate Purdy at the helm. It'll also have the executive production work of BoJack's Noel Bright and Steven Cohen, with A Scanner Darkly's Tommy Pallotta rounding things out.

Netflix is getting another animated series from the team behind Bojack Horseman. Called Tuca & Bertie, it centers on two 30-year-old birds -- Bertie, an anxious songbird, and Tuca, a more carefree toucan. The two are friends, living in the same apartment complex. Bertie hasn't been cast yet, but Tuca will be voiced by Tiffany Haddish. Bojack Horseman producer Lisa Hanawalt created the series and it will be produced by Bojack creator Raphael Bob-Waksberg and Bojack producers Noel Bright and Steven A. Cohen.

Netflix hit 'BoJack Horseman' may be coming to TV

Netflix occasionally premieres shows that run alongside conventional TV broadcasts, but it's rare that online-only shows reach TV later -- Comcast's House of Cards offering was an exception to the rule. It's something of a surprise, then, that BoJack Horseman might be coming to TV. Distribution firm Debmar-Mercury is shopping the washed-up horse star's animated series to cable companies for syndication. The key, it turns out, was Netflix's early, looser approach to rights for its earlier originals.

New episodes of 'BoJack Horseman' arrive on Netflix September 8th

Netflix is keeping Will Arnett pretty busy between Flaked and Arrested Development. Now comes news that he'll return to the service September 8th in Bojack Horseman's fourth season. The introspective animated series' third season was widely lauded by critics, specifically for its near-silent episode "Fish out of Water." Each series has surpassed the one that came before it, so hopefully that trend continues here as well.

Censors pull 'BoJack Horseman' two days after Chinese debut

Two days after its debut on China's iQiyi streaming service, Netflix's critically acclaimed animated show BoJack Horseman is no longer on the platform. The move is a blow to Netflix's ongoing attempts to gain a foothold in the region, which stretch back to 2014 when it began licensing shows to LeEco. Seeing as strict regulation has kept western streaming giants from entering into China, Netflix's deal with iQiyi (unveiled in April) was seen as a viable alternative.

Working out can be tough, but inversely, watching Netflix is super easy. The streaming giant doesn't want to distract you from your fitness goals, though. Netflix would much rather be your workout buddy, which is why it posted instructions for making a DIY personal trainer gadget.

  • Netflix's 'BoJack Horseman' returns on July 22

Netflix's BoJack Horseman rides again for a third season on July 22, the streaming service announced today. The animated series, which stars Will Arnett as a talking horse, has garnered a surprising amount of critical acclaim over its first two seasons. Naturally, that's something BoJack ends up making fun of in the teaser trailer below. On the surface it's simply funny and crude like so many mature animated shows these days, but dig a little deeper and you'll find a surprisingly deep reflection on relationships and depression. Just don't ask why animals and humans are sleeping together.

You won't have to wonder about when Netflix will start streaming much of its exclusive and original programming -- the company has provided scheduling for seemingly all of it in one shot. To begin with, it's renewing the weird-yet-familiar cartoon BoJack Horseman for a third, 12-episode season that will arrive in 2016. Can't wait that long? Longmire, the rescued A&E crime series, will make its Netflix debut on September 10th of this year, while a documentary about Keith Richards, Under the Influence, is due on September 18th. There are a slew of comedy specials arriving between August 14th (Demetri Martin) and December 18th (Mike Epps). Aziz Ansari's comedy series Master of None will show up on November 6th, and Chelsea Handler is hosting a four-movie documentary series that's "coming soon."

This week it's discs vs. streaming, as the summer TV schedule is in full swing. On Blu-ray the sci-fi thriller Ex Machina arrives (as the first release with DTS:X surround sound), along with It Follows and The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel. For gamers, Rory McIlroy's golf sim arrives, but the big highlight is God of War III Remastered on the PS4. Netflix follows up Chris Tucker's comedy special last week with a feature on Tig Notaro, and the premiere of Bojack Horseman season two. Geeks Who Drink and Reactor premiere on Syfy, Mythbusters is back on Discovery and FX has the return of Married plus a new show Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll starring Denis Leary. If you insist on sportsing, there's the MLB All-Star game on Fox while NBC has all the major racing series, and the surprisingly-controversial Espy Awards are Wednesday night. Look after the break to check out each day's highlights, including trailers and let us know what you think (or what we missed).

Wondering how to get the weekend started? If you're a fan of Netflix's original series Bojack Horseman, there's a pretty easy choice, since the service just released an extra episode out of the blue. As Bojack (voiced by Will Arnett) and Todd (voiced by Aaron Paul) get ready for the holidays, it takes a look back to when the title character was the star of a 90's sitcom "Horsin Around." It's no The Interview or surprise peek into the world of House of Cards (we do have an Orange is the New Black musical interlude embedded after the break), but we'll take it -- subscribers can click here to watch it now.

Shark Week is no longer upon us, and real NFL action is almost here. But first, we've got a few more things to get around, including the premiere of a new season of Doctor Who, with Peter Capaldi taking over the title role of The Doctor. Netflix also has a couple of premieres this week, with its new series starring Will Arnett as the voice of Bojack Horseman plus a US/Canada premiere for the BBC drama Happy Valley. The F1 series continues in Belgium, and on HBO fans will be able to see the last episode of True Blood. Diablo III: Reaper of Souls - Ultimate Evil Edition brings the series to next-gen consoles this week as well (in 1080p on Xbox One and PS4) and with some options for cross-platform saves. On Blu-ray there's The Amazing Spider-Man 2, and a new Y Tu Mama Tambien release from Criterion. Check after the break for a list of what's new this week plus a few trailers, and drop a note in the comments if you see any highlights we've missed.
