Google's true wireless Pixel Buds are now available outside of the US
They're on sale in Canada, the UK, Australia and a few other countries.
Pixel Buds live translations work with any Google Assistant headphones
To date, using Google's real-time translations has officially required a set of Pixel Buds. But what if you'd rather not use the official audio gear ? You might not have to. Droid Life has noticed that Google quietly changed a support page to state that real-time translation is available for "all Assistant-optimized headphones and Android phones," not just Pixel Buds and Pixel phones as the page said as recently as October 11th.
Google's $30 USB-C earbuds offer access to Assistant, translations
Google's first attempt at wireless earbuds, the Pixel Buds, aren't for everyone. Not just because they don't live up to the hype -- due to jerky performance, overly sensitive touch controls and a tedious case design -- but also because they cost $159. If that's a lot more than you're willing to spend, Google has a budget-friendly option for you: the Pixel USB-C earbuds, priced at $30.
Google adds new gestures and pairing features to Pixel Buds
While they were initially a little underwhelming, Google's Pixel Buds have gotten some new features lately, including Assistant-centric gestures like a touch and hold to start voice-command mode. Just a few days ago, the company added a way to customize which apps send spoken notifications, too. Now, Google is adding two new tap gesture capabilities and easier pairing to its earbuds. The updates are rolling out today and should be out for all by early next week.
Google is rumored to be working on a Pixel smartwatch
Google could launch up to three Pixel smartwatches this fall, according to leak-meister Evan Blass and German tech site, Winfuture. The devices would likely use Qualcomm's upcoming wearable-dedicated chip, which it designed in close collaboration with Google. It promises to slim down watch designs, extend battery life and come with built-in features like a GPS, LTE, WiFi and a heart-rate sensor.
Google Pixel Buds let you customize which apps send spoken notifications
A beta preview back in March hinted at a few features coming to Google's Pixel Buds, like expanded double-tap functionality and in-ear detection. But there's another addition coming for the wireless headphones: New settings to switch spoken notifications on or off for each app.
Google Pixel Buds review: You (and Google) can do better
When Google revealed its new Pixels earlier this year, it made a tacit statement: The age of headphone jacks on smartphones is over. So, what's a diehard Google-phone fan to do? Buy Google's new wireless earbuds -- in theory, at least. Several leaks ensured we knew they were coming, but the Pixel Buds were still a surprise because they emphasized functionality over convenience. Obviously, you can listen to music with them, but you can also sift through notifications and translate languages on the fly. Still, despite lots of potential, Google's Pixel Buds just don't live up to the hype.
Earbud translators will bring us closer: The Future IRL
The moment Google Pixel Buds were used earlier this month to demonstrate real time translation from Swedish to English, people started freaking out about potential use cases for this kind of technology. But the thing is, Google isn't the only company taking this on.
Pixel Buds hands-on: A better way to wear Google Assistant
Pixel Buds isn't just the name of my Android-centric group chat anymore -- they're Google's first attempt at a wireless headset, and they're pretty smart, too. It's not hard to look at them as the answer to Apple's surprisingly popular AirPods, but they're much more capable... as long as you don't mind a cord dangling behind your head.
