Layers of Fear was Bloober Team’s final psychological horror game. The studio didn’t advertise this fact, but behind the scenes, a switch flipped weeks ago: When the remastered and expanded Layers of Fear collection came out on June 15th, it marked the end of a phase that was known internally as Bloober Team 2.0.

Horror collection ‘Layers of Fear’ already had a concrete release date of June 15th for many platforms, but now the day one launch also includes Apple Mac computers. This is only for recently-released models with Apple-manufactured silicon chips, but it’s certainly a feather in the company’s cap, as Apple has been busy trying to further its gaming ambitions.

Horror collection ‘Layers of Fear’ finally has a concrete release date of June 15th, which is just around the corner. This news follows the official launch of a Steam demo, which went live today. The forthcoming title includes remakes of the original ‘Layers of Fear’ and ‘Layers of Fear 2’, with some new content.

A new trailer, which shows some unsettling environments inspired by Polish artist Zdzisław Beksińsk, ends with confirmation that the game will be out on December 10th. Now, thanks to modern gaming hardware, Bloober Team is able to render "two fully-fledged and visually distinct worlds simultaneously with no visible loading times," lead designer Wojciech Piejko explained in a blog post earlier this year.

Blair Witch is scary. That's not a revelation for most people, considering the pop culture status the movie achieved when it came out in 1999, ushering in an enduring age of found-footage horror films. But, that's not what we're talking about here.

Developer Bloober Team is headed "back to the drawing board" with its downloadable PlayStation 4 game Basement Crawl, announcing plans to recreate the project from scratch following a largely negative critical reception. Inspired by Hudson's Bomberman series, Basement Crawl is a multiplayer action game in which players compete to be the last creature standing in a series of explosive overhead-view battles. Critics were not fond of the final product upon its launch earlier this year, citing a wide range of gameplay flaws and technical issues.

  • Patch, entirely new build in the works for Basement Crawl

Our stay with the launch build of Basement Crawl was brief - attempts to join online games were mostly futile, but successful connections just led to laggy rounds or matches that refused to read controller input entirely. Developer Bloober Team is aware of Basement Crawl's damaged reputation, but Marc Colhoun assured GameSpot in a recent interview that the team is working to improve the situation. Though a patch is planned for the existing build, Colhoun explained that the new version is being built "completely from scratch" and "on a new engine." Colhoun added that Bloober views it as an opportunity to "regain the trust of gamers," an intention aided by plans to distribute the build for free to anyone that bought the original version. Colhoun mentioned plans to address technical issues, the absence of a tutorial, sparse game types and general AI in the new version. It sounds like a nice gesture, but it's hard to be anything but skeptical until the patch and rebuilt version are available, considering the game's current state. Still, the situation reminds us of Hydrophobia, a XBLA title that was updated with a massive patch after a lukewarm reception from critics and fans. Let's just hope that the Basement Crawl rebuild goes better for Bloober than it did for Hydrophobia developer Dark Energy Digital. [Image: Bloober Team]

  • Basement Crawl emerges on PS4 next week in US and Europe

Heads up, Bomberman fans: Bloober Team's PlayStation 4-exclusive competitive multiplayer game Basement Crawl has finally surfaced after a series of delays, and is set to arrive digitally via the PlayStation Network next week in North America and Europe. Basement Crawl pushes the Bomberman formula to M-rated extremes, letting players messily exterminate their friends in four-player local and eight-player online multiplayer modes. The game also offers a single-player campaign that pits solo players against murderous AI-controlled psychopaths. Basement Crawl will be available for $9.99 when it hits PSN in North America on February 25. A European release, priced at €9.99, will follow on February 26. [Image: Bloober Team]

Indie developer Bloober Team has announced that PlayStation 4-exclusive strategy-action game Basement Crawl will not be released this week as originally planned. This marks the second major delay for Basement Crawl, a game first announced as a PS4 launch release. "While the completed version of Basement Crawl was prepped for launch during the last week, several exciting opportunities to partner with major industry players to enhance, refine and add to the game arose," stated Bloober Team CEO Piotr Babieno in an announcement this morning. "Although a difficult decision, we decided that the best choice for us, as a team, was to delay Basement Crawl so that we could take full advantage of these opportunities." Babieno makes no mention of what these opportunities might be, nor does he offer a new release date for Basement Crawl. Intriguingly, he does say that these opportunities will help "grow and improve the game while still providing an amazingly fun multiplayer experience for PS4 owners." Despite whatever changes Basement Crawl may see, Bloober Team still plans to release the game to the PlayStation Network during the first quarter of 2014.

Bloober Team revealed a handful of new screens for Basement Crawl, the developer's PS4-exclusive action/strategy game, showing off the top-down view of the Bomberman-esque levels in the dark game. The developer previously offered a creepy teaser trailer for the game, which we've included above. Basement Crawl will include four and eight-player multiplayer modes, and has basement crawlers setting traps for their enemies. The game's creative director Peter Bielatowicz said the game will be "as skill-based as possible" and the developer will work to omit "the luck factor and remove the dependence on leveling-up characters." Basement Crawl is coming to PS4 "very soon."

Bloober Team, the Polish development studio responsible for Last Flight and Music Master Chopin, has announced Basement Crawl as its next project. Beyond the fact that the game is a PlayStation 4 title set to drop within the console's release window, however, nothing else is known about the game. Well, and that it's got this clown in it presumably. We're sorry about that, by the way, it's just that we had to see this clown thing, and so now you do also – we just can't take the full brunt of its nightmare fuel. By sharing it with you, our most beloved readers, its terrible power is diluted and eventually we'll be able to defeat it. But at what cost?

Bloober Team's extremely gradual rollout of media for Last Flight continues... In October, Bloober Team sent out screenshots; today, there's a teaser trailer, which shows what would appear to be real environments from the game -- we hope. Even at this glacial pace, we're pleased to see progress toward a release of Last Flight, the now-episodic WiiWare action game about a plane full of vampires and the food critic who loves kills them. Being trapped on a plane with a bunch of monsters is a great setup for a horror game, and killing vampires with a bunch of random weapons is a great setup for a game. %Gallery-75104%
