  • Next 'Titanfall 2' update mostly ignores the Titans

You'd think that any big Titanfall 2 update would revolve around the game's namesake robots, but no -- Respawn wants on-foot action to be the focus next time around. It's preparing a free upgrade whose centerpiece is Live Fire, a six-on-six pilot-only mode. You have just one minute to either eliminate the entire enemy team or hold a neutral flag when time is up. The mode is important enough that there are even two new maps created just for the purpose.

  • 'Final Fantasy XV' out-of-bounds glitch reveals an unused open world

The world of Final Fantasy XV feels enormous, stretching out for miles across freeways, plains, lakes and mountains -- but in the game's closing act, that open world becomes incredibly linear. Instead of taking a road trip across a fantastic land, players in the third act can merely look out upon one. A newly discovered out-of-bounds glitch changes that, revealing a surprisingly fleshed out landscape with a frozen tundra, beaches, towns and a vast savannah. There's not much to do in the area, but fans are now wondering if its a hint at what's coming for the game's DLC.

  • 'Civilization VI' adds Poland to the fray

Civilization VI was rightly lauded as a return to form for Firaxis following the unfortunate diversion that was Beyond Earth. But, as you'd expect from the first iteration of a complex 4X strategy game, things haven't been perfect. An update last month brought DirectX 12 support and a considerable interface upgrade, along with the standard balancing and AI improvements. This month, the game's developers are adding more features, refinements and, for a price, a new civilization to toy with. For full notes on what's new, you can head to Firaxis' website. There's no headline item per se, but the addition of an "Alert" action that lets you sleep units until they see an enemy, and killing the bug that had Great Admirals randomly spawning on top of wonders (making them functionally useless). Rest assured there are plenty of balancing, AI tuning, aesthetic and bug fixes that should add some polish to the game.

  • 'Gears of War 4' marks the holidays with snowball fights

Destiny and Overwatch don't have a lock on over-the-top holiday gaming modes. Gears of War 4 just got a 99-cent Gearsmas Pack that adds some cheer to a mostly grim and dark game. The centerpiece is a special multiplayer event, Snowball Fight, where you have to fling snowballs at rivals using a custom Snowshot weapon. Akin to a real fight, you can't just reload -- you have to scoop up more snow ammo once you've run out of what little you have. There are also three ugly sweater-clad characters (JD, Kait and a Swarm Drone) and 24 holiday-themed weapon skins. Gearsmas lasts until January 4th, so you'll want to act soon if you're going to show off.

While the Forza games have dabbled with inclement weather before (rain was the big feature of Horizon 2 expansion "Storm Island" and to the consternation of some, Motorsport 6), snow in driving games as a whole has been mostly avoided. After all, why would you want to struggle maneuvering a car through what feels like wet concrete? Folks who download Horizon 3's "Blizzard Mountain" expansion starting December 13th will find out.

Respawn made it a point with Titanfall 2 to ditch some of the more annoying business models of modern games (such as charging for important add-ons), and you're about to find out how well that works in practice. The studio has revealed that its first downloadable content pack, Angel City's Most Wanted, will arrive on November 30th... and this is not the usual case of charging a small fortune for a handful of extra gameplay. The extension not only gives you a 'new' map (surprise: the original game's Angel City), a new pistol and several titan kits completely free of charge, but introduces an in-game skins store that is the opposite of what you frequently see in other blockbuster titles.

Earlier today, the acclaimed rap pair Run The Jewels announced a new single "Panther Like A Panther (I'm The Shit)" that played in a trailer for Gears of War 4's revamped horde co-op mode. Not long after, another video debuted showing both members of the group, Killer Mike and El-P, as playable characters available in new DLC for the third-person monster shooter.

'Dead Rising 4' DLC is as ridiculous as you'd expect

Golf, but with ridiculous instruments of death like a fire-breathing triceratops head instead of woods and irons. That's the pitch for Dead Rising 4's season pass of add-on bits and sounds like the best kind of absurdity. Specifically, the "Super Ultra Dead Rising 4 Mini Golf" mode that'll come out some time after the base game's December 6th release date. A post on Xbox Wire says that the game of undead putt-putt is made all the more difficult with zombies acting as hazards and generally getting in the way on the mini links. It isn't the Outlaw Golf sequel we've been clamoring for, but at least it's something.

Ever wanted to blow up the Death Star in Star Wars: Battlefront? If the answer is a resounding "yes," you're in luck. EA has revealed that its Death Star paid DLC will arrive on September 20th, and has released a gameplay trailer to match. Suffice it to say that this will rekindle plenty of memories from the original Star Wars movie -- including things you might have wished for, such as a fight with a Star Destroyer and an on-foot assault against the Death Star.

Ubisoft's survival shooter multiplayer title The Division had a successful launch back in March, but unpolished design choices erupted into outright game-breaking bugs in the free content additions released in the months thereafter. While the game's DLC roadmap pegged its second paid expansion Survival to be the next out the door, the studio will push that back until later in 2016 and dedicate the upcoming October update to fixing the core game. That leaves the third planned release, Last Fall, delayed until sometime in 2017.

Now that the long-in-development South Park: The Fractured But Whole is close at hand, Ubisoft and South Park Studios are finally opening up about its creation. To start, they've posted a behind-the-scenes video that isn't quite the usual puff piece. South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone not only why the game exists, how it was made and what's new, but how they got some of their feedback on The Stick of Truth. They apparently got plenty of helpful input by watching PewDiePie's playthrough -- after all, the YouTube star is telling you what he thinks at any given moment.

EA and DICE are determined to wrap up Star Wars: Battlefront's year of add-ons with a bang. The developers have used Star Wars Celebration to reveal that the fourth DLC pack will revolve around the Rogue One storyline. Rogue One: Scarif will let you play as rebel Jyn Erso or her Imperial nemesis, Director Krennic, as you fight for the original Death Star's plans on the planet Scarif. While you're not getting a look at actual gameplay just yet, EA vows that the add-on will be available in time for the movie's mid-December debut. Season Pass holders will get to play two weeks early.

Whereas Fallout Shelter has become more like Fallout 4 in recent months, come July 26th those actions will swap. The "Vault-Tec Workshop" expansion hits PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One that day according to a post on Bethesda.net. What's this add-on bring to the table? Creating a vault of your very own (like you did in Fallout Shelter on mobile) where you can attract folks to your custom-built domain, play dress-up with them and then put 'em to work. The company is sending out early beta access to folks on PC this week.

Earlier this month, we had a chance to try the first story mode Capcom has ever put into a Street Fighter game. It's a free update for Street Fighter V owners, but there was one detail missing: a release date. Now, we know that the update will arrive on July 1st -- it's a little later than the "late June" timeframe Capcom promised, but we can't quibble too much here.

The Banner Saga 2 builds upon Stoic's brilliant Viking-fantasy universe, and it's about to get a little bit bigger. Survival Mode is available today as a free update to Banner Saga 2, allowing players to assemble teams from a large swath of existing heroes and then pit them against enemies in 40 back-to-back, turn-based strategy matches. Once a hero dies, he or she is gone for good, but each victory grants players a form of in-game currency called Renown, allowing them to add fresh fighters to their teams. Items drop during combat and there's a 30-second timer keeping the matches moving quickly.

Destiny's next expansion, Rise of Iron, hits PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on September 20th complete with a new raid, strike, weapons, gear, missions and competitive multiplayer mode. This is the first Destiny expansion to hit current-generation consoles only -- there's no word on Xbox 360 or PS3 releases. Rise of Iron brings back the Gjallarhorn rocket launcher, a weapon that was over-powered in the game's early days but fell off once Destiny entered Year Two. For those who pre-order the new content, the Gjallarhorn comes in an "Iron Black" color, fitting the whole ferrous theme. Rise of Iron also introduces a new social space called The Plaguelands Zone. The expansion costs $30 and requires players own the Destiny base game plus The Taken King.

For a game released in the fall of 2013, Grand Theft Auto V has enjoyed a long life. Most credit this to the regularly updated multiplayer, which has kept the game so popular that it was one of the top-selling games in January for the third consecutive year. Next week on June 7th, the game will see its latest content expansion, giving online players the keys to build their own crooked business kingdom on the streets of Los Santos.
