  • ASUS ZenBook Pro Duo 15 OLED

ASUS made its next wave of dual-screen laptops more practical

Dual-screen laptops have a tendency to feel more like novelties than proper workhorse machines, but ASUS was clearly proud of the approach it took with its original ZenBook Duo and Pro Duo. As usual, the ZenBook Pro Duo 15 OLED is the flagship of the bunch and can be configured with up to an Intel Core i9 processor, up to 32GB of RAM, up to 1TB of storage in the form of a PCIe 3.0 x4 SSD and one of NVIDIA's RTX 3070 mobile GPUs. No matter how you spec the Pro Duo, packs a 15.6-inch 4K OLED touchscreen, which certainly comes as good news for the gamers and creative professionals the Pro Duo is geared toward.

ASUS' ROG Flow X13 is a tiny gaming convertible with an eGPU

Last year, ASUS delivered one of the most compact and impressive gaming notebooks we've ever seen, the Zephyrus G14. At CES 2021, the company debuted the ROG Flow X13, a 13-inch ultraportable convertible that looks like a cross between one of Lenovo's Yoga notebooks and a piece of military gear. It's powered by an AMD Ryzen 9 5980HS chip and GeForce GTX 1650 graphics, making it a decent machine for basic gaming.

  • LG Wing 5G

LG's Wing 5G is the strangest dual-screen phone we've ever seen

In 2011, it tried to cash in on an extremely short-lived 3D smartphone craze with the Optimus 3D/Thrill 4G. Perhaps inspired by Google's ultimately doomed Project Ara, it released one of the world's only modular smartphones -- the G5 -- in 2016. Here's the idea: When the Wing is closed, it looks like any other big smartphone.

  • Microsoft Surface Duo review: An exciting, erratic affair

The Surface Duo is one of the more exciting attempts to straddle that divide. Instead of going for a foldable screen like Samsung, Motorola or Huawei, Microsoft simply connected two screens together. Plus, since the Duo can rotate 360 degrees, it offers a few more orientations, or what Microsoft likes to call “postures,” than the Galaxy Z Fold 2.

The Galaxy Z Fold 2 will be available on September 18th for $2,000

When Samsung teased its third foldable phone at Unpacked earlier this month, it didn’t reveal much beyond quick specs like screen and battery sizes, explaining that more details were coming. Today, the company is sharing all the information about the Galaxy Z Fold 2, which will be available on September 18th starting at $1,999. Samsung explained to press during a briefing that this folding screen will not support the S Pen, so fans of the stylus won’t be able to use it here.

LG V60 5G ThinQ review: A compromised phone I like anyway

Here's the really weird thing about the V60: I can't remember the last time I liked a phone that annoyed me this much. Ambitious, oddball features like 3D portraits and the dual-screen case need some serious finessing, and LG's software is in dire need of an overhaul. Ultimately though, the fact that V60 delivers on the fundamentals -- solid performance, a good-looking screen, capable cameras and long battery life -- means it's worth paying attention to. It's light on thrills, sure, but you still get a lot of phone for a reasonable price.

ASUS' ROG Zephyrus Duo 15 is a gaming laptop with a built-in second screen

ASUS has been pushing laptops with second screens for a couple of years now, but it's still searching for a winning formula. Last year's ZenBook Pro Duo pushed the keyboard down to the edge of the laptop's body, with the rest of the surface housing a second screen. The problem with that configuration was an awkwardly placed trackpad. But, you know who cares less about trackpad placement? Gamers. Hence, almost a year later, the company's Republic Of Gamers (ROG) division has its own spin on the concept: the ROG Zephyrus Duo 15.

  • LG V60 ThinQ 5G hands-on: Two screens, not enough polish

LG's smartphone business spent most of last year struggling to turn a profit, but the company has found at least one strategy it wants to stick with. Instead of giving people unpolished, unproven, expensive foldables, it starting building phones you could attach secondary screens to when you needed a little extra room to work with. LG hopes this wide-eyed idea enough to convince people to buy its new V60 ThinQ 5G, but after a little hands-on time, I'd advise a little caution.

  • CES 2020 recap: Day three

CES 2020 isn't a PC show per se, but recently manufacturers have used it to show off their most out-there prototypes. Take Intel's Horseshoe Bend, a 17-inch PC that's entirely covered by a flexible display to show off the potential of huge foldable devices. Dell, meanwhile, took another approach with the Concept Duet laptop that has two screens rather than one big flexible display. Just to show that it can do folding too, Dell also unveiled the Concept Ori tablet that supersizes bendy smartphones to tablet size. Lenovo went the farthest, however, with its ThinkPad X1 Fold, a folding tablet that it actually plans to sell. All of this shows that manufacturers are trying to make bendable devices happen, even if consumers aren't sure yet. For more, follow along with Engadget's complete CES 2020 coverage.
