Square Enix made a new game studio for its new RPG
After news on familiar game series like Hitman, Just Cause and Final Fantasy -- Square Enix threw in one more thing into its E3 show: a new console RPG. Currently code-named "Project Setsuna," the company has set up a new games studio, Tokyo RPG Factory, to guide the new game into existence. The artwork teases a gentle, soft world setting -- and it's a gorgeous one. Expect to hear more later this year, before the game launches in 2016. Check here for everything happening at E3 2015!
The new 'Hitman' will be an 'ever-expanding world of assassination'
At Square Enix's E3 press conference today, developer IO Interactive revealed more details about the upcoming Hitman, an assassination-based shooter. But for this new title, due out December 8th on PS4, Xbox One and Steam, the developer's taking a different tactic that meshes well with the game's digital release: It'll constantly evolve. That's right, IO Interactive will continually release updates that will add new locations, missions and hits. And it's worth noting that some of these new targets will be a one-time deal (read: permadeath). IO will also take cues from the Hitman community to inform these future updates and also to work together to take out targets. Hitman is available to pre-order today. Platinum Games is working on a new 'NieR' game for PS4
It's been five years since NieR last arrived on consoles, but at today's Square Enix E3 press conference, the publisher announced that a new title is in-development for the PlayStation 4. Fans of the franchise will be pleased to know that Platinum Games is handling the development of this new title and, as producer Atsushi Inaba mentioned onstage, there'll be a heavy focus on action. Though we were treated to a short "sneak peek," the company stressed that this footage was merely a proof of concept, and that we could expect to hear more this fall. 'Just Cause 3' parachutes in on PS4, Xbox One and PC on December 1st
In case you forgot, Just Cause 3 lands this year on PS4, Xbox One and PC, and we've now had a closer glimpse of the five-years-going sequel. Expect to topple a tyrant in charge of your mother's homeland, and possibly a missile threat and more. Grapple hooks, parachutes and even a pair of wings are all part of your sandbox. And you pilot helicopters or even a tractor -- finally. The gameplay showcase focused on... well a lot of explosions and well as a new gameplay mode that focuses on destruction. 'Super Mario Maker' out September 11th, demo this week at Best Buy
After a year of teasing, Nintendo's finally revealed when we'll get to make side-scrolling Mario levels of our own in Super Mario Maker: September 11th, 2015. Can't wait that long? The gaming giant is partnering with Best Buy again, and tomorrow (June 17th) from 4PM to 9PM local time, select stores will have demo kiosks where you can kick the game's tires. As a reward for you enduring the crowds of kicking fans, you'll snag a 30th anniversary Mario button. Pretty cool, right? Supplies are limited, of course, and Nintendo's set up a website to help you locate where the nearest participating yellow-tag store is. Check here for everything happening at E3 2015!

'Mario and Luigi: Paper Jam' drops on 3DS next spring
The oft-rumored Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam is on its way to 3DS in spring 2016. This is a brand-new game with RPG elements, turn-based combat and Paper Mario inspiration all rolled into one experience. Paper Mario is a generally beloved series within the Mushroom Kingdom universe, as it plays with 2D and 3D elements and bends perspective in a fun way. The first Paper Mario launched in North America in 2001 on the Nintendo 64. Nostalgia, here we come. Check here for everything happening at E3 2015!
'Zelda: Tri Force Heroes' is a multiplayer action game for 3DS
Zelda: Tri Force Heroes is a three-player multiplayer game set in the wonderful world of Hyrule and heading to 3DS this fall. The king of your village seeks a hero to save the day and three brave citizens step forward -- you plus two friends or two non-playable characters. In single-player, you can swap between Link and two doll-like characters to complete puzzles, and in all modes, the game features a totem mechanic that stacks all players on top of each other. It's fairly adorable.
'Hyrule Warriors' and a new 'Metroid' are coming to Nintendo 3DS
Nintendo's 2015 E3 Direct has just kicked off with great news for 3DS owners: Hyrule Warriors Legends and a new Metroid are on the way. We'd already seen leaks indicating the Koei Tecmo-published Hyrule Warriors would be ported to Nintendo's dual-screen console, but now we have a release date -- first quarter 2016 -- and word that additional content from The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker will be included. That latter content will take the form of new characters (like Tetra) and stages pulled from the GameCube title. As for that new Metroid, well, it's not quite the Prime reboot we were all hoping for, but it does appear to carry on the legacy. Metroid Prime: Federation Force, developed by Next Level Games, incorporates a four-player co-op mode and should be headed to the 3DS at some point in 2016. The other bit of curious news accompanying Federation Force is the bundling of a separate "sci-fi sports battle" title called Metroid Prime: Blast Ball. Details on both titles were thin, so we'll have sit tight and wait for Nintendo to share more.

'Skylanders' opens its world to a Nintendo crossover
Unlike Microsoft or Sony, Nintendo isn't hosting a big event on the ground at E3 2015. But that doesn't mean the gaming titan won't be taking part in this week's festivities. During a video showcase for E3, the chief of Nintendo North America, Reggie Fils-Aime, revealed a new partnership that will bring the company's fan-favorite Amiibo characters into the world of Skylanders. The crossover initiative is going to merge two of the most popular toys-to-life series, making it possible to use a Turb Charge Donkey Kong, Barrel Blaster, Hammer Slam Bowser or Cloud Cruiser figurine in either Skylanders games or as an Amiibo -- to make them work, all you have to is twist the toys' base.
'Star Fox Zero' blasts to Wii U this year
Fox McCloud is coming for your Wii U later this year in Star Fox Zero. Nintendo announced as much during its E3 YouTube broadcast. It has the classic elements you remember (campy dialogue, barrel rolls) with a number of new ones. Namely, transforming vehicles and using the console's GamePad as your targeting screen. "By using two screens, you can see yourself flying on the TV while shooting enemies below you on the GamePad," Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto said during his company's video stream.

Sony at E3: from 'Horizon: Zero Dawn' to 'No Man's Sky'
Sony has surprised audiences at its E3 event by revealing a full-blown Final Fantasy VII remake, the new Call of Duty and The Last Guardian gameplay. It has also announced a seriously lengthy list of games other than those three, including a title for it upcoming VR headset and ones that feature PS4-exclusive content. Ubisoft at E3 2015: 'Assassin's Creed,' 'Just Dance' and new IPs
Ubisoft (featuring Aisha Tyler, as always) has revealed quite a lengthy list of games at this year's E3. It includes new entries in fan favorite series Assassin's Creed and Just Dance, as well as new IPs for those who'd rather try something fresh. We've listed them all below the fold along with their trailers, so you can get a quick glimpse of what the French gamemaker has in store for this year and next.
20th Anniversary PS4 controller and headset bring back PSX colors
PlayStation fans who have been with Sony's system since the beginning can pledge their allegiance with a pair of new PS4 accessories. Designed to commemorate the original PlayStation's 20th anniversary, this DualShock 4 and Gold Wireless rock the familiar two-tone gray color scheme with its distinctive PlayStation logo. They'll arrive in the US for $65 and $99 (respectively) this September. The controller is coming to Europe and Asia too, but there's no word on the headphones.
'Uncharted 4' looks like a ghost from E3's past
Drake gets into some vehicular mayhem of his own, knocking out wooden supports from terraces that overlook alleys. The scale feels much bigger, however, based on the onstage demo tonight from Sony's media briefing. The whole time, Drake's accompanied by Sully, offering comic relief, moral support and hopefully a neckbrace to help prevent whiplash.
PlayStation is the new home of 'Call of Duty,' first with beta and DLC
At tonight's pre-E3 press conference, Sony made yet another big splash by announcing itself "the new home of Call of Duty." The next entry of the franchise, Call of Duty Black Ops III, will have a beta exclusively for the PlayStation 4 in August, and map packs will arrive first on PlayStation. It sounds like the agreement will last longer than just the one game, with Andrew House saying the PlayStation-first DLC is "starting" here. 'Shenmue III' will come to PC and PS4 with your help
Apparently, the running theme of Sony's E3 event is "long-sought follow-ups to classic games." Famed developer Yu Suzuki has revealed that he's crowdfunding Shenmue III, the sequel to a much-admired action role-playing series that many thought had ended back in 2001 -- or 2002, if you got the Xbox version of Shenmue II. The open-world title will pick up Ryo's adventure where it left off, with a visit to China to hunt down his father's murderer. It'll be available on both the PC and PlayStation 4 if all goes well, and there are promises of new fighting mechanics in addition to familiar elements.
